Spain has a land border with Morocco, and its history begins within the time period of the game. The cities in question see themselves as fully Spanish, speaking the language as their primary tongue.
About the Swiss Guardā¦
Language? Not even Italian civ uses Italian, there wasnāt even an Italian language in the middle age. Latin is the answer.
Well we dont have a swiss civi or papacy so its all concepts, besides even if these civis are ingame they can share this unit.
Both your UU ideas are just monks they are not very offensive units having a unique offensive unit adds some flavor.
I tried to keep some historical connection with the real Papal States, thatās why the civ is quite defensive indeed.
Even the Swiss Guard upgrade for Pikeman would result in a defensive troop, since Pikeman is a Counter Unit. I think they could protect Monks from range units like Hussite Wagon do as a plus.
The offensive should be a slow progress through the map with the support of powerful Monks and with the building of several Monasteries along the way to buff the troop.
Without the Monastery buff and the Monk presence the army would be average at best.
Uh? So youāre saying Spanish should be counted as an African civ because of Ceuta and Melilla? In this case Sicilians and Byzantines are African too, I guessā¦
I couldnāt agree more, some people doesnāt really get that sometimes itās just fun to theorycraft new civs just for the sake of it, and that we arenāt really crying for them to be in the game.
You can point it out as many times, some people will just ***** into your post anywayā¦
I wouldnāt give a bonus like that, itās incredibly hard to balance, itās either OP or UPā¦
Just give them a scout, itās better in the end.
Even if you unlock them into feudal age, 175 wood building for just a 5% speed increase itās not much⦠the only strength is that you get your monks faster to get relics.
Both not much of a bonus, free techs always help, but garrison units into an expensive building like a monastery wonāt do much overallā¦
This overlap a but with other monk bonus, as not many units have a bonus against monks.
I would suggest something like the following:
Bonus:
- Monasteries cost -100 wood and are available in the feudal age (monks and monk techs still locked behind castle age).
- Farmers working nearby a monastery drop +10% food.
- Town watch spawn 2 spearmen at your TC. Town patrol gives you 2 spearmen at every TC.
- Free coinage and banking.
Team Bonus:
-Bishop is available at the monastery. Itās a leader unit similar to the the centurion. All units nearby get a +50% attack speed.
Unique Units:
- Papal Guard: an pikeman that move faster. It have no bonus against cav but good base HP and attack.
I do not see why the Romans would not also be considered African, considering Alexandria was one of the leading cities of the empire. One emperor in the past even considered moving the capital from Rome to there, but the Praetorian guard āDiscoveredā an accident before he couldā¦
I used to get a lot of flack for civ designing. Its nice to see the civ crafter getting more humane treatment these days.
The civilizations that may be considered African are: The Saracens, Ethiopians, Malians, Berbers, Romans, and Spanish if you want to push it. Africa was a sharply influential part of the Roman Empire up until the Arab invasions. Some of the sharpest theological minds that history ever produced were from Africa.
Itās just a mere exercise I had for fun, not that I really expect a civ like this to appear in the actual game, especially now that the Roman civ has to be released.
I understand you well, (some time ago I proposed a similar civilization, with similar results⦠so much so that I left this forum for a long timeā¦) Unfortunately some users here cannot understand it, and have to throw away their problems of ideological frustration
P.S. there is now a Roman civilization in the game ![]()
Oh that sucks
Glad you didnāt completely abandon the series.
Iād totally make up civ concepts as well if I had a good understanding of civ bonuses and unit counters ![]()
