Yeah, I think those things actually existed though.

The problem with African civilisation is the lack of written sources, because most of the tradition was oral. So it is really difficult to reconstruct the history of the most important African kingdoms. Incidentally, it was only with the Arabs, in the 8th century, that writing made its appearance in sub-Saharan Africa. Imagine that.

There are plenty of sources though on African Empires when you mix both exterior Arab sources with locally collected oral traditions. Enough to make at least 2 African DLCs,

It’s just that most people don’t know much about African history in general, which is a shame.

the right screenshot, has a royal carriage on the left of the castle. so ye i imagine there will be a campaign

And am i seeing a dismounted lancer?

In the green screenshot I see some evolved red halebardier. Something like an imperial halebardier (similar to imperial skirmisher), or is it just me?

Any examples out of personal curiosity? I doubt that you simply want the Moroccans, the Algerians and the Tunisians.

Songhay, Gana, Nubians (Makuria, Alodia), Swahili, Kanem-Bornu, Kongolese, Haussa, Munhumutapa…

If you really want to focus on North Africa, Fatimids would be a solid choice. The short-lived Vandals with their iconic name could be also an option.

I think you are both looking at the Fire Lancer.

I agree I would have liked another architecture set, but honestly I don’t think filling out lesser-used architecture sets should be the primary driver behind what new content we get.

Though I do agree with getting more African civs

You know, you could tell so amazing stories as well. Like the Tarascan defence against Aztec invasions, the downfall of the Chimu Kingdom, the Conquest/Fall of Mali or the complex interaction of Nubia between the Fatimids and the Ethiopian Empire during the Middle Ages. It’s not like I wouldn’t have ideas for campaigns for each civ I’m suggesting.

Likewise the Sukhotai Kingdom in South East Asia.

If we’re not getting new sets, I think focusing on rarely told stories would be nice.

Its a complete breath of fresh air, incredible work from the devs, this dlc will change the aoe2 landscape and will double the aoe2 playerbase maybe even triple the playerbase, this in no way can fail

Thank you for your reply. The chosen civilisations always have to do with Marketing in one way or another, more than ‘this area of the world we haven’t covered too much’.

There was a survey some time ago that indicated the Chinese as the area of greatest interest.

I’m aware of that. Crossing my fingers that we’ll get at least 1 American and 1 African with two civs each before the main game ceases to add new civs.

Finally they make THE obvious DLC everybody and their mother was screaming they should be doing.

Tanguts confirmed. This castle is based on a Tangut ruin from Inner Mongolia.

And this cavalry unit is identical to an Iron Pagoda. So that means Jurchens are confirmed as well.

If you say so. By the way, what would you recommend as reads for Chinese Medieval history? I usually like to get in the mood of a new DLC by reading more about the region the DLC focuses on. I had broad strokes books on Far Eastern history during this time frame but haven’t found yet books which were specifically focused on this time period for China which weren’t part of some huge book series. What would you recommend?

That’s great, but I would love Tibetans so much :sob:

This new unique cavalry is definitely Tanguts another UU Iron Hawk (Tieyaozi) instead of Jurchen Iron Pagoda (Tiefutu)

and maybe i’m just wish casting, but it’d seem crazy to me to add Jurchens and Tanguts and not Khitans.
