We don’t have an exact date to share for this update just yet, but you can save the date for mid-April!

here’s some of the big highlights coming with the next update in mid-April:

We’re not yet ready to say exactly when this update is dropping, but you can expect to hear from us in mid-April.

This communication is a little confusing. They say twice that the update (and therefor also DLC) will release mid-April but then at the end they say we will hear from them again mid-April too, that implies that they will not tell us anything before the DLC drops.
Very unlikely to be true.

Unless they are implying that they might announce a delay in mid April.

hear from us could also just refer to the blog itself. So it doesn’t mean we won’t hear about the DLC from other sides like creators getting early access to it.

Also there is a chance that the Update will release before the DLC. That happened to AoMR. They did the Update that added the Chinese before they released the Immortal Pillars DLC so everyone could see the Chinese techtree ingame but couldn’t actually play them.
Though that caused some confusion with people thinking their Premium Version suddenly didn’t include the DLC anymore.

Yeah I agree. I also think that they patch will drop next week but the DLC at the end of the month. Announcement this week.

Don’t forget public preview for the patch.
They always do one for DLC or big patch a week before the release.

Honestly, April 22 (2 Tuesday’s from now) is still in the realm of mid-April, so if we didn’t get anything until then I think you could say the promise was still kept.

Honestly I think this is the case; I think that the update and the DLC announcement/preorder will come, and then a week or two later will be the actual release.

Mid-April is literally the next 2 weeks.

So the DLC has to be revealed tonight, right? Right? They’ve always given us at least 2 weeks.

@devs you reveal the steam page, we pre-order. Deal?

I am really wondering if the update and the DLC release will be postponed. There isn’t any PuP as usual for the big patch and also the new hidden achievements of the new DLC aren’t added yet. This is highly unusual for a release in two weeks from now.

Cysion said that a lot of things are locked and loaded, the promo screenshots is hidden somewhere in the archives of steam.

Hoping for 10 April.. and 20 april ( Chinese language day) for release..

Remember they picked 14 april for dynasties of india announcement which was new year in many indian regions, so they should pick a chinese cultural significant day for announcement or release

Since they’ve not announced anything, there is no postponing. I mean you can’t postpone something not announced firstly. And then, the plan is “you’ll hear fromm us mid april”, so as we did not, means nothing went wrong so far ?

We have no release date yet, it’s not just a dlc nor an update guys, it’s also PS5 launching. Did you see any advertising anywhere about that for playstation ? I did not, you can’t launch something without ad campaign, or maybe you can but I doubt they will.

Just be patient, Spring is not ended yet, if it doesn’t drop at the end of spring then we can start asking questions about delaying.

I agree with that, for those not familiar with the concept of “mainline update” style, let me explain it based on how warframe devs do that.

Basically, they have two style of updates, the Majors, which are basically new content addition, and the Mainlines, which are packaging of things they’ve been working on for long time. In the podcast, Cysion explained that many of the thing that are coming soon are things that were already done, or at least worked on, since long time but never fits into the release “logic”.
He said also that now is the time for some of those things already worked by to show on our screens.

So actually what we know is coming:

  • indpeendant castles
  • regional monks
  • more melee animations inbetween attacks
  • attack synchro damage with animation
  • 5 new civs
  • rebalance of many things in the game
  • addition of many special units features, samurai, jaguar, etc
  • tons of new attributes for modders, like really it’s massive
  • new terrain type for the pasture mechancis with new ressoruce and new animal ai behavior
  • ps5 support
  • campaign rebalance and fixes on few details
  • chronicles balances on the grand campaign
  • heroes skill ability system, this is a huge addition to the game model, lots of code
  • many task rewamp, non monk conversion mechanics, etc
  • land mine type unit, detonating on collision but not triggering ai aggressive respond, THIS means a new branche of the ai code logic to be applyied to the entire game ai files, I mean it’s not lots of code, just a totally new function the ai core mechanics will ahve to support.
  • new animals type, tammable if I get it right, also a big addition to the game core logic
  • reflect damage ability
  • melee block ability
  • projectile inbetween main projectile shooting, translation: attak between attacks, charged attack beeing different than the regulars shoots.
  • lots of new projectiles entities
  • new ships, one transforming from an editor unit to a real unit, could imply a new unit in the gameset to avoid balance issues.
  • shock trooper armor replacing eagles, they said nothing about it except some new unit are gonna get it, so I assume stat balance won’t change but still, imagine how many units will be impacted if they change the logic behind that.
  • Stingers, this thing, I’m not sure about, but I think it’s for the landmines, or debuff, or ammunition. it’s new, that’s the thing to remember.

There is a lot of other things, but just look at that list, this is massive, not just a new dlc dropping but a big game moment for tons of new things dropping out of nowhere.
The game will change after this update, Chinese will never be the same again, it’s an historical update moment, it’s not just a balance rework, their unit lines are affected, and I think it never happened like that in the past ?

Just be confident, Cysion said the steam page is already there on steam in hidden mod, so commercial part is ready, maybe they’re working on some fixes, maybe it’s ad campaign, maybe it’s just time schedule, maybe it’s holidays ? Maybe it’s star alignement with the mayan calendar.

AoE4 dlc dropped yesterday, we’ll probably have to wait at least one week for more info on our side.

I got one question… Am I the only one wonder why there is a yellow patrolling group of soldier on the GIF image with the pandas rock showcase ? I mean oaky there is camel on the arabian wolf screenshot, but camel is not patrolling … Why are they patrolling ? Speed changes showcase ?

I got a serious question about the new castles.

25 new castles so all civs will have their castles.

45 civ, plus 5 cive, 50 civ.

Actually in the game folder we have 24 castles files, including the unused athenian file, so 23…23+25=/=50 ?

Out of the 25 new one to come, we already saw 11:

    1. Vietnamese (?)
    1. Burmese (?)
    1. Chinese (?)
    1. Ethiopian
    1. Viking
    1. Korean (?)
    1. Byzantine
    1. Portuguese
    1. Persian
    1. Tanguts (?)
    1. Jurchen (?)

The remaining other 14(15?):

    1. Maya (?)
    1. Inca (?)
    1. Frank (?)
    1. Celt (?)
    1. Spanish (?)
    1. Tatar (?)
    1. Goth (?)
    1. Hun (?)
    1. Mongol (?)
    1. Slav (?)
    1. Lithuanian (?)
    1. Bulgarian (?)
    1. Berbers (?)
    1. Turk (?)
      1. Malay ???

Already ingame castles, 20 there:

    1. Briton (?)
    1. Teuton (?)
    1. Saracen (?)
    1. Japanese (?)
    1. Italian
    1. Magyar (?)
    1. Cuman (?)
    1. Malian (?)
    1. Sicilian
    1. Roman
    1. Burgundian
    1. Georgian
    1. Armenian
    1. Dravidian
    1. Bengalis
    1. Khmer (?)
    1. Bohemian
    1. Poles
    1. Gurjaras
    1. Hindustanies

Chronicles castles, 3 there:

    1. Achamenid
    1. Greek
      1. Athenian (unused)

11+15+20+3 total 50 but correct me if I’m wrong, there is a problem in my total isn’t it ? I mean, we saw 11 new sprites, they said 25 are coming, but we’d need 26 to fits the needs ?

Which one did I mess ? Do we have an ingame unused castle sprite ? Poenari Castle given to someone maybe ? That would solve the issue but I saw nothing about vlad campaign changes.

If anyone see where I made mistake, please tell me where.

The DLC ones don’t count inside the 25. It is already been lenghtly discussed in another thread. The conclusion is that one old castle will be deleted (unless chronicles counts, then it will be exactly 53)

Actually the Athenians are getting one too. It’s in the files.

Here is your corrected calculation

45 civ +5 new civs +3 chronicles=53 civs

24 castles in game (one is for chronicles) +25 new for existing civs-1 for Athen because it’s already there +5 new for new civs =53

Alright folks.

I found a hidden red crane !

Also, as I watched a video about details seen on the bottom-left new castle, that we guess to be the Byzantine one, I realized even more details. On the new castle we can see cataphract shield but also the DE new cataphract sprite helmet version, that got rolled-back to actual design which may be used for elite version. But we already knew that.
What I noticed is there is not just a legionnary shield next to that cataphract helmet, but there is also a legionary helmet, right there:

You can distinctivly see that the pixels are going crazy making spikes so it’s probably the legionarry helmet. It’s not confirming or denying anything still, it’s just there.

The grenadier unit style attracted my attention a lot. It’s the only new unit we saw with a very darkish leatherish armor style and those three tiny bombs in shoulder strap plus gigantic spiked ball in his hand. At first I went for chain attached ball, but closer attention lead me to think it’s held by something ressembling that:

The more I looked it, the more I was telling myself that it might be a “pettard” regional replacement unit, but would be weird.

I’ve made more research about the unit, and finally found a possible name for the equipement style the unit is wearing.
What I found was a Mongolian armor type named “Hatanga Degel” reproduction:

More google search came to that:

I’m insisting on the Mongolian type armor, because all the chinese brigandine style soldier I’ve found had either arm protection made of lamellar metal parts, or helmet design not matching the helmet of the unit.

It’s not historical evidences heres, just me finding an image that will make me stop searching more info on that unit ahaha. But still, it could be a hint on one of the civ, I can’t say it’s the Khitan for sure, cause I don’t know their history enought, but as they are the only civ changed in the early Genghis campaign mission…I think it’s a safe bet to rebet on them to be the third civ with Jurchen and Tanguts.

From that point, the DLC is starting to feel more and more … Nomadic themed than Chinese themed to me, Jurchen Tribes, Tanguts Tribes, Khitan tribes, no chinese split, no korean split, no japanese split. Maybe I’m totally wrong there, of course.

I’m still not happy with the Fire Archer, I think we’re gonna go wedding dissolution before the next announcement.

And speaking of Fire, pay attention to this unit:

I’ve been saying previously this was an editor dead body overlappe d with flammes, but now I think it’s not accurate. The left arm of the guy sems to still be falling, and there is no blood at all. The spear also seems to be falling, if you look the red fabric part.
But that’s not the interesting part. The interesting part is the fire on him. I think this dude just died due to a final hit of a Poxi Treb projectile in his face.
The two towers receiving blast on the same picture also tends to turn into giant firestick. I hardly doubt they’re adding an alternative death graphic for ALL UNIT OF THE GAME taking fire and dying like stronghold units when you lit them into fire. But I think the Poxi Bactrican-Catapult Trebuchet is shooting “fire pots”.

Let me explain abit my thought here. The unit is definitly not meant to destroy castle as a regular Trebuchet is, due to the size and pattern of the unit. The projectile we can see in the catapult isdefinitly a Pot and not a “ball”. Also, gameplay wise, it’s pretty unique to have a castle age siege style unit that can shoot incendiaries projectiles before you research Chemistery, and this update seems to be all about gunpowder warfare outside of imperial age university tech.

I can already hear the noise of their fire-pot breaching in my head, I’m impatient to see them ingame !

Small idea about the unidentified siege unit, that has no upgrade, seen on the civ dropdown preview… Could it be a chariot mounted quick firing ballista unit ? Ancient China Panzer-Gatling ? Does this ideas seems familiar to anyone ?

Does anyone know why they changed the cataphract design to begin with? The unit portrait still uses the original design, I much preferred it’s historical original helmet
