dude, they did not lie.
Just like they didn’t lie with campaign focused expansion with polished scenarios inspired by filthyfelphias custom scenarios.
Just like they didn’t lie when they said they weren’t splitting China.
Sure, whatever makes you sleep at night.
I’m a little late posting about this (currently on holiday) but here’s my reaction to the announcement.
I am really not sure what to make of it, since to me it seems rather conceptually muddled. Why do these three short-lived Chinese kingdoms get the special treatment of their own main-game civs? Why are those civ designs so RPG-like? Why are Jurchens and Khitans, who have nothing to do with the Three Kingdoms, tacked on with (presumably) no campaign involvement? Why do the Khitans have a Tangut unique unit and castle? Why did Cysion lie about the new civs? Why are the developers obsessed with the idea of “telling stories” when RTS games are a poor medium for storytelling?
I find it all rather confusing, and I don’t understand the motivation for designing the DLC like this. I was quite excited for this DLC from the previews but now I’m not sure if I will buy it.
Campaigns can tell great stories, its just extremely hard to do when you need to condense 30 years into a few slideshow intro and outro and a few dialogue options
There are stories like such of Dou Jiande which are very well fitted for the game
Also, theres only one story here, and thats one of my main disapointments
I think this could have worked very well in a chronicles-esque format. That’s basically what they did with BfG.
But yeah, for a “main” dlc, it’s quite disappointing. And no, DotD isn’t the same. That was three stories that flowed one to the next to the next.
Yeah the three DoD campaigns covered almost a hundred years
Not because of that
But they really do seem to be a bit weak, yeah
Their late game doesnt even seem that good, and its supposed to be their main strenght
Yeah. It is just a meme.
Tbh their tech tree is way too limited, so its part of the problem somewhat
I think you see the problem from the wrong angle.
Like, we didn’t pay this product before we know what it was.
All this miscomunication, in the end, it’s to the studio it do damage, because it generates more bad review and less sales.
V&V is the worst rated dlc but only because of this miscomunication.
For the 3 kingdom, they show element of the dlc, but since this dlc as bad design choice like the kitangut and 3 kingdom civ which are the alst things we will thing for a dlc on medieval time, it could only be misinterpreted.
And the word from Cysion made everything worst for nothing. But the damage will be for the studio where he work, so maybe someone higher up will go and say a few word to him…
It certainly was a part, but I think the polarizing scenario design, un-polished scenarios, and lack of new assets, beyond the ethical implications of just selling other peoples free work, almost certainly contributed.
Yeah, this thing contribute too.
It likely do more damage for the sale. The blog post tease about a campaign dlc, but in the end it’s scenario only dlc, with many already playable free scenario, so people are disapointed and angry, so they don’t by it.
If, from the beginning, it was stated that it was a “scenario only” dlc, based on the map from a well know creator from the modding community, at least more people would have bought it, give a bad review for all point you mentionned, but the sales would have been better.
Myself, I did’nt play any of the original map, but just the fact it was not a campaign dlc like stated in the blog post just put me off from buying it.
It WAS a campaign DLC, a regular DLC has 15-18 scenarios and some of them are pretty short and with only 3 playable civs, but V&V has 19-20 scenarios, much longer and bigger maps and much more civ variety.
Function of UU Jurchen is not really good,
Maybe they dont put 3k on the Chronicles so they dont need to make unique skins for every unit? Just thinking about
No, I think chronicles is completely capture ages authority and they have no direct say in what comes there. Maybe this is also why the Athenian castle wast updated even though it’s in the game files.
They are banning people from their official Twitter. lol
I can’t respond to their tweets anymore.
Could also be that twitter is just a rotten carcass of a website haha.
People were also banned for asking about AOE3 XD
AOE3 really harbingered most of the mess other games are experiencing and will experience XD
