New DLC Inbound!

Sorry for the delay, i’ve been away from my computer for a few hours. Here is a link to the announcement, there is stuff for AOM:R, AOE2, and AOE4 in it.

So, those new civs might be Western Xia (Tangut - the cavalry civ, at least I think they are) and Song/Jin (Chinese)

this might be Tangut or Khitan.
I think they might be add Khitan/Jurchen and edit Chinese. Song - Liao - Jin

So maybe this was obvious to everyone else. But I just realized, for the (presumably) tangut catapult camels, it’s not a single camel with a catapult, but rather a pair of camels.

I really like that detail. i think it also congruent with the contemporaneous descriptions.

What do we think the purpose of this unit will be? Full disclosure I know nothing about the real thing this unit is based off of, but I kinda imagine it wouldn’t be big enough to do much damage versus buildings (or at least not as much as a standard treb) and I kinda imagine it’ll be more anti-personnel, but if someone knows more about the real thing i’d love to hear it.

personally I think it would be a more flexible but weaker onager unit. Same purpose with onager/catapult than Trebuchet ingame

Yeah, advantage probably being more speed and mobility than an onager, but less powerful as the tradeoff.

Expect some of these units being overtuned just like Monaspas, one month later then nerfed.

I’d be interested in an anti-cav onager variant. Relatively fast for siege, maybe 1-1.2 TPS, with a relatively weak base attack but some anti-cav bonus damage.

Unique castle skins, Yes!

Catapult Camels for the Tanguts, absolutely YES! They may be a faster version of mangonels, but with lower damage and/or smaller area of effect, and because they are camels too, they may take less damage from cavalry attacks and benefit from cavalry armor upgrades.

Grenadiers for the Jurchen, well, I had said I’m not a fan if the Chinese doesn’t have a better gunpowder representative, but obviously we’ll have not only Fire Lancers but also Nests of Bees, so Yes! Hopefully all of them won’t just be scenario editor units.

It is not certain whether those heavy cavalry are Iron Hawks for the Tanguts or Iron Pagoda aka Tiefutu for the Jurchens. I think they are more likely the latter, and I guess whichever they are they could be an upgrade for Cavaliers.

Hope we will have something about the Khitans in the future. They clearly should not have been ignored in that period of East Asian history.

What civ does the castle belong to? I could see China getting a new unique castle to replaxe the current Japanese styled one

The castle in the first picture is most likely for the Chinese. Its gatehouse is indeed Chinese in style, the overall design feels like the Great Wall, and they have CKN. Also, the picture probably present the first Jurchen invasion of the Song Dynasty, when the defenders destroyed the bridge to prevent the invaders from crossing the Yellow River. (Even though the Jurchens at that time should probably not know how to use gunpowder, and the Chinese emperor (the red palanquin I guess) should not be ready to escape yet. 11)

They go to Jurchen camp instead of escape lol.

Btw, I worried that most of them might be just scenario units, plus with unique skin for pikeman/halberdier

Totally agreed. The Americas, Africa, and SE Asia need some love as well. For the Americas I can see at least the Chimus, the Mississippians, and the Purepechas being added; for Africa there could be Kanems, Songhais, and Swahilis; and for SE Asia there could be Chams, Siamese, and potentially Mons and Visayans.

By the way a potential way to mitigate having too many civs using the current East Asian architecture is to have the current East Asian set given solely to the Japanese (it was based on Japanese architecture anyway), create a new continental East Asian set for Chinese, Koreans, Jurchens, and Vietnamese, and create another Inner Asian nomadic set for the Mongols and Tanguts.

If they do that, they have to do the Persians justice. Actually everyone needs a unique castle atp.

So the chinese will be split?
Han

Who’s the last (if we assume India scenario)?

This looks sooooooo beautiful. Love the colors.

It looks like the Tanguts (Tibetans) and the Jurchen confirmed! Awesome!! Really excited.

The Firelancer and the Hwacha are going to be the regional units I wonder?

I mean, yeah… But honestly I just wish we had new architecture at this point

I still want the Chinese War Wagons gone from the Korean civ
