New DLC just dropped? New steamdb file

Perhaps this is because almost everyone here read and followed the new of “Campaign focus” part. People from other social media like reddit/YouTube, for the most part, didn’t even know there was a brief summary of what will be showed to us on live stream.

Yep. That’s very likely.

“Dlc” feels like too strong a word for victors and vanquished

Yes, they always do the same thing…because they have bad communication that is ambiguous and opaque, they end up disappointing the fans…in AoE 3 it is directly radio silence or they get confused with the game units or they use AoE 2 units to promote AoE 3 events…it’s very annoying…

That’s true…let’s hope so…

Justinian and Belisarius in the 6th century and Muhammad and Pakal the Great in the 7th century…

Theft and scam would also be strong…

Yeah, that’s always a risk with big companies, and it’s not limited to video games. They often completely ignore feedbacks and thus misatribute the reasons for a produce’s success or failure. That being said, it sometimes seems like the voices of the forums are being heard though quite often with a delay, but it could also often be pure coincidence.

I agree with everything you say here, I hope credit is given where credit is due and Filthy will be paid fairly for his work considering this is pretty much a one man job. No matter what, I most certainly won’t buy it until the price is at least halved, even with the -15% sales it costs more than DoI at full price despite having far less content.

Is it a genuine question, or are you implying there are actually no big names in this time period? Anyway, by memory alone I’d say Justinian/Belisarius, Heraclius, Khalid ibn al-Walid, Khosrow I (this one is already in game with Bukhara though), al-Kahina and Clovis (despite having a good chunk of his reign in the 5th century) as well as his sons.

It was a genuine question.

Also, most of the famous Mayan Rulers, famous Chinese (Taizong, Dou Jiande, Tang generals), Korean, Tibetan (Songsten Gangpo) and Turkic Rulers (the first Turkic Khaganate) Harsha, the early Chalukyas, Clovis I the king who forced the Goths out of modern day France, the very early Bulgars

Yeah, I don’t know much about the history of Asia aside from the Middle East in this time period, but I have no doubt it was quite eventful!
I have mentioned Clovis, though. A campaign or historical battle with him would include not only the Franks (both Salians/Merovingians and Ripuarians) and Goths (Visigoths), but also the Romans (kingdom of Soissons), Burgundians and possibly the Teutons (Alamans), so it would be quite diverse.

EDIT: That being said, evenin being French myself I think the Frank as a civ are already getting a little bit too much spotlight on the campaign side. With V&V, we will reach 10 playable scenarios as a whole while the Chinese are still stuck with one historical battle.

Just an observation, all these scenarios involve civs from AoK. But Chinese don’t have any, even though there is that fantastic Romance of the Three Kingdoms one by Filthydelphia. I’m wondering if China is the next location after this DLC and they are avoiding it now to keep their options open for campaigns…

If you’re talking about V&V, there’s an exception with the Slavs but yeah, all the others are AoK, some of whom already had two historical battles before and all of those got at least two new ones, the Vikings getting as much as 6 which means they now have more scenarios than some civs with actual campaigns (which really makes me wonder if they will ever get their own). I kind of feel like it was at some point meant to be an AoK 25th anniversary but they forgot to brand it as such halfway through.

I was really looking forward to Harald Hardrada’s campaign. I think it will never happen.

  1. Ragnar (850)
  2. Ironside (859)
  3. Finehair (870)

These three outstanding Scandinavian kings would be perfect Nordic saga’s for full campaigns in AoE 2!
Ragnar Lodbrok and his son Bjorn Ironsides were legendary kings: Ragnar was the king of Denmark and Bjorn was the king of Sweden. Harald Fairhair united all of Norway into one kingdom.

These three campaigns would fit perfectly into the Scandinavian DLC, which would break up the Vikings civ umbrella:

  • 2 completely new civs - Danes and Swedes,
  • renamed Vikings civ to Norwegians civ

Additionally, these “Campaigns focused” DLC will include the Gaiseric (406) and Otto (936) scenarios, which would also be suitable as full-fledged campaigns for completely new civs:

  • Gaiseric (406) - Vandals civ (Dark Ages DLC or North African DLC)
  • Otto (936) - Saxons civ (Teutons umbrella civ break up DLC)

Can I go through your posy history and NOT see the word saxons somewhere?

You are making us pro civs side look a tad cringe

Stay away from me and mind your own business. Don’t act like a child who cries because someone doesn’t pay attention to him. Cringe is comments like the ones you have written now. I don’t initiate arguments myself, so it’s you who have the problem.

Instead of complaining that something doesn’t suit you, start creating something yourself.

Something minor that annoy me is that the V&V map is the same as the Historical Battles.

Especially the placement of Karlsefni and Finehair feels awkward for me.

I have been. Even in 2004 people were calling my idea crank spam on the aoe heaven forums. Back then I was young and thought them ungrateful for besmirching me but Ive grown and matured in 20 years time.

Heck look on reddit in aoe2 for Usac as well. Ive done my crafting duties and may resume one day.

I really don’t know what to make of this. Had you asked me last week, I’d assume they just decided to re-use what they already had cause it’ll work just as well/nearly as well.

After it came out they lied to us tho, I’m far more cynical.

Makes me wonder if they selected filthydelphia scenarios ONLY IF they’d fit on a map they already had lying around just to save some more money, which only exacerbates the air of cheapness around this dlc.

If they’re willing to lie about what the dlc contains, then why not lie again and instead of taking filthy’s BEST scenarios, only the ones that fit on the map. If you aren’t above one lie then why be above another?

They opened themselves up to these doubts.
