New DLC - The Mountain Royals

Don’t get the fact that they didn’t change Persian architecture to Central Asian. This is one of the rare topics where the forum is basically unanimously for it.

By the way, is nobody fearing the return of the Teuton Death Star with those Fortified Monasteries being able to shoot arrows while not costing stone on land?

Forward monastery rush is going to be a wacky strat possible with both Armenians and Georgians now.

It is quite ridiculous that the Georgians are a better representation of the Bagratid Dynasty than the Armenians are.

Honestly, the more I think about it, the angrier I get.

What’s worse is that you can see them using it in one of the promo images! They know it’s what they should be using!

Yes, the architecture aspect is one big minus for this DLC (and new civs using south European). Since it doesnt break a balance and a many of us asked for this, TMR would be accepted much, much warmer.

I mean, Romans already did that with Longswords to Legionary.

Also, regarding the Persians architecture, didn’t Byzantines get their architecture changed in a patch? I know the forums have apparently been asking for it for a long time, but… well, not all hope is lost I think, they can surely change it in a future patch if it doesn’t come with the DLC launch?

No, it was between HD and DE (along with a few others).

Technically, they CAN do it in a patch. As you can even do it in the scenario editor.

Considering Persians have been confirmed to not be receiving the SL, I don’t think it can be said with certainty that the central asian civ depicted in that screenshot, was necessarily the Persians. Given the subject matter of the campaign, I’d have assumed Turks, but in reality it’s probably the tatars (who to be fair are under the turkic umbrella).

Does anyone know why Armenians received navy civ bonus, UT and strong tech tree options?? I was expecting them to be cav or siege civ. Is this strong fleet somehow historically accurate?

so i’m no historian, but my very basic understanding is you had the “main” armenians in the caucausus, and during some invasion by turks, some armenians fled to the coast of the mediterannean and established the cilician armenian kingdom, and they had a heavier emphasis on their navy than the armenians who remained in the caucausus.

I’ll admit I was confused at first as well.

But this is the Caucasus DLC. Why would they base the Armenians on a version that wasn’t even in the Caucasus???

well there is no caucasus in the name of the dlc, so there is that. And Cilician Armenia was also surrounded by the mountains…

Thing is, there were 2/3 Steppe Lancers there…and then an unknown lancer unit, what even happened to that?

Also the image looked like it had been made to be misleading. As the walls were stone, not fortified. Persians lack fortified walls, Cumans lack stone, and Tatars have fortified. So it looked like it had been made to confuse.

you’d have to ask FE, but presumably they wanted the in game armenians to represent the entirety of historical armenia, so took the naval inspiration from the cilician kingdom, and the rest from the caucusus branch.

If that’s what they were trying to do, they did a bad job. Historically, Armenia was good with both cavalry and siege, but the in-game Armenians are bad at both these things.

After trying the Georgians start, I can tell it by a very certainty that this civ is not for all. I’m a very bad and slow player. So maybe that’s why it felt like their build is as tight as Chinese. You skip the 4 villagers on wood and go straight to boars and put 10 villagers on hunt and still constantly need to drop off food.

As for the Armenians, I gave myself a 15 food penalty. And it is hard. I’d recommend you put 7 on sheep instead of regular 6 before going to wood. And I’ll say put only 3 on wood regardless of what strategy you’re going for and keep the extra villager under TC.

but did Armenia even have a decent navy? I ask because these bonuses seem really strong…

How did you get early access and I didn’t??? I’m a YouTuber!

I just gave myself a 50 food penalty in scenario editor.

Oh, okay. That’s a little more comforting…
