I did some research and Armadillos are veiwed as sacred compared to Egypt and crocodiles, hence where Petsouchus come from
So we are getting a Aztec Anubite that behaves like a Mummy?
Also, is its weapon on the wrong side of its hand?!
History
Ceramic sculptures of a hairless breed of dog have been found in burial sites in ancient West Mexico. In ancient times, dogs that looked like present-day Xolos were often sacrificed and then buried with their owners to act as guides to the soul on its journey to the underworld. They have been found in burial sites of both the Maya and the Toltec.
Iâm surprised by the lack of effort put into their invented units. They created a Xoloitzcuintli version of the Anubitesâliterally, a dog with a feathered headdress, like in the movie Coco, would have sufficed. Now there are two versions of the Anubites in the game, which feels redundant. With each new image released for the DLC, it just turns more and more into a complete mess.
I agree more variety and uniqueness should be the essence of AoM. That being said, Iâm personally not too upset. The armadillo is very unique to the other units, and this one looks interesting. Iâm finding the more they share the more Iâm looking forward to Aztecs⊠a civ I was never really keen on originally.
Thanks for sharing. The Spirit Guide name now makes sense⊠at least I can pronounce this one ![]()
So far, this is one of the best units that have been shown⊠Weâll hear more about battle rabbits and scorpions, itâll be a shame. And of course the infamous jaguar riders)
the weapon immediately caught my eye and i am really surprised so few saw this yet.
it looks either missplaced or glitched or something or the position of the hand is wrong. idk why they shared exactly this image cause the rest of the unit looks pretty cool in my opinion! (my favourites are still armadillo and jaguar rider but lets see what this unit can do! sounds interesting!)
i think they look even better than anubites despite the odd handplacement/weapon glitch.
i personally assume they will be taller than anubties and slower/less agile.
also shocker: there are actual similarities here and there in mythology across the globe - at least sometimes. the unit can still play, move and sound differently.
Three New Major Gods
Quetzalcoatl

Quetzalcoatl, known as the Feathered Serpent, is the god of wind, wisdom, learning, and creation. Quetzalcoatl played an important role in the creation of humans and was seen as a protector of civilization and culture. He is connected to the planet Venus and often depicted as a serpent with feathers, symbolizing the link between earth and sky.
Tezcatlipoca

Tezcatlipoca is a powerful and multifaceted deity associated with night, sorcery, the sky, and destiny. His name, translated as âSmoking Mirrorâ, reflects his link to obsidian, often used for mirrors and sacred rituals. Tezcatlipoca played a central role in the cycles of creation and destruction, often stood in opposition to Quetzalcoatl. One could say their rivalry shaped the world. Mysterious and unpredictable, Tezcatlipoca inspired both fear and reverence among his followers.
Huitzilopochtli

Huitzilopochtli is revered as a god of the sun and war, and the divine figure of his people. Unlike many Mesoamerican gods who were shared across the regions, he was uniquely and definitively Aztec. His name means âHummingbird of the Southâ and he was believed to have guided his people to the site where they founded TenochtitlĂĄn. According to myth, he defeated his sister Coyolxauhqui and cast her from a sacred mountain, a story later reflected in ritual sacrifice. As the sun god, Huitzilopochtli depended on human offerings to sustain his power and ensure the sunâs victory over darkness, symbolizing both Aztec military strength and cultural identity.
An All-New Campaign!

Gods will clash, alliances will fracture, and the fate of the Aztec people will be decided by blood, belief, and power.
The all-new 12-mission campaign tells an epic story of divine conflict and survival. When the eternal rivalry between Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca destroys the utopian city of Aztlan, Huitzilopochtli seizes the moment to lead his people south in search of a new empire. Meanwhile, Tezcatlipoca escapes through his Obsidian Mirror, crossing continents to recruit legendary allies and reclaim his dominance.
Obsidian Mirror is a dramatic evolution of Age of Mythology: Retold. For fans who have waited years to see the Aztecs rise, and for strategy players drawn to bold mythic themes and inventive mechanics, this expansion delivers a fierce new vision of divine warfare.
Tbh this post was pretty meh. They didnât really tell us anything new ![]()
Tezcatlipoca has both feet, literally unplayable, go back to the drawing board! /j
