ISSUE EXPERIENCED
I am experiencing sever lag in approximately 30% of my games. The lag is evident in chat, unit control, unit production. I have been experiencing this sever lag the entire time on the current patch. I was NOT experiencing this lag earlier in the year on the same computer, same internet connection. The lag I am experiencing occurs regardless of whether I am on home wifi, hotspot wifi or ethernet (for clarity, I did not have any issues with any of these connections earlier in the year). Very disappointing given that Iā€™m running new, high quality hardware.

FREQUENCY OF ISSUE
I approximately 30% of my matches. At some points of the match, it may be lag free but then multiple times, to varying severity through a match. It definitely becomes unplayable and at itā€™s worst, says that it loses connection to the servers.

I donā€™t think it has caused any crashes but it has caused me to lose many games.

REPRODUCTION STEPS
Any time playing online ranked multiplayer

EXPECTED RESULT
No lag any more.

For further clarity, I have turned on Smooth Serif Font and my issues persist.

I am also experiencing lag, I think the unit icons are the ones causing the lag, when I get a large group of them selected, the game suddenly lags. This btw is a bug that also existed in a prior patch and it seems like it came back.

Another bug from the PUP is that the hotkey for two man saw is missing.

Is the driver from your GPU up to date? I see you have an Intel Iris GPU, we had some issues with drivers from these graphic cards before, but it should be fixed.

Hi there,
For any issues that are relevant to the PUP, we ask that you only report on the PUP forum for proper support.
This is now a set of advanced shader options that you can toggle off at will, as stated in the patch notes.

Thank you. I have updated my graphics driver and will continue to monitor. Iā€™ll revert if the lag returns.

I have more data points for you now:

  1. I updated my graphics driver and the lag issue persists
  2. The lag issue can occur in both lobby games and ranked
  3. My friend who also has experienced lag issues of late did not experience the lag issue when I did had the lag (we were playing a 1v1 together on in a lobby)
  4. During that same match, I pressed F11 and ping appeared to be ~330ms (if I read the dashboard correctly). I proceeded to check my ping in the lobby browser which showed normal (33ms for my closest server and ~250
    for the most distant server)
  5. I was recommended to update my wifi driver. Done but the lag issue persists.

Iā€™d appreciate any other ideas because

@Felizon89 should I create a new thread as my issue does not appear to be associated with the shader issue?

Everything I can see, points to a network side issue, not a graphical processing issue on my PC.

My friends have experienced the same and seems like the pros are having similar issues. There were lots of lag pauses and restores in the recent TTL.

I think this is a different issue. Do you have the same ping issues with other games? If so, probably you have network issues, it could be that your connection is restrained somehow by your ISP, you can have a faulty router or even a firewall in your router. I hope we can find a way to solve the issue :slight_smile:

The LAG problem is back. It was a problem in September. They fixed it. Then the latest patch brought it back.
The game is unplayable basically.

Same for me. Just tried out the game for the first time after the last patch and cannot even play 1v1 vs the AI.

I am AOE Modder and I have never experienced lag before until the latest patch. Iā€™m not the only one; it seems like all my friends are also lagging. I am certain that the gameā€™s performance has deteriorated over the past few months.

And it is not my drivers, system or whatever. Everything is updated. And my system requirements are more than enough to run this game.
