New resource sources ideas

Otter: provides gold, like foxes
Beehives: provides food
Shipwrecks: provides wood

We have enough resource generaion things ingame now.

I’d be perfectly happy to see shipwrecks as a type of tree. Some custom maps (especially ones based on areas without natural wood sources) actually use rms effects to change a tree object into shipwrecks, so it’s not like it would go unused.

Otters would pretty much be a fox reskin. Beehives though - I think the closest comparison in-game is berries, and I don’t think this would be all that accurate a representation. So while foxes and shipwrecks could reasonably be added, I suspect Beehives would be a tougher sell.

I once thought about using rubble as a source of stone, after the destruction of a castle. But I think it would be better as a unique mechanic for a single civ.

A comparable feature existed in the alpha version of AoK, not only for Castles:

The resources decayed like those of a dead animal. The “PILE” (salvage pile) objects are still found in the dataset of DE.

Driftwood along the coasts. It was historically used as a source of wood by Inuits, Norse settlers in Greenland and Iceland, Pomors (Arctic Russians) and other polar region peoples.

Edit: not only the Arctic it turns out, driftwood was used as far south as California, the Chumash made their tomol boats from drift redwood.

Agreed.

Unless there’s a 5th resource created which would create an entirely new dynamic and portfolio of techs/units/buildings to make, there are way more than enough things giving us the standard resources.

I don’t need every tile having a resource, which is how it is starting to seem with chickens, fox, oysters, and such. Pretty soon we will have gatherable grass to make food (wheat → bread) I mean, literally, picking up grass. I dont mean Farms.

Yes it will always be just another reskin of something. If people want wood sources on wanter then someone will want stone too and it will just become land combat.

Fifth resource is a good concept but it should not affect the main game, rather it should be given for modding projects.

They could officialise the hidden resource Ore for that purpose, or whatever it would be called. It used to be gatherable and droppable by Villagers until recently, but not anymore (in the case of droppable).

You are not supposed to make a new thread if one with literally the same name already exists…

New resource source ideas (like chikens, foxes and oysters)

The forum even does a search for you when you make a new topic, so how did you miss that?

A 5th “resource” could be Moral, or Loyalty.

It is harvested by doing actions in game, like kill enemy units, take relics, building Wonders, TCs and Castles, destroying enemy Wonders, TCs and Castles, researching technologies.

This resource could be used similar to AoM Godpowers, but with more realistic effects. For Example, military units deal +25% damage for 25 sec, reset or reduce the market trading fee, reveal all map (no removing fog of war ), all buildings work 50% faster for 50 sec, etc.

I would prefeer iron to add an extra layer of difficulty

I mean, why not? Diverse resources would only make water more interesting.

Water should be simple Im not a fan of the new ships either.

I didn’t know that, and that’s a good one… In the Sultans campaign of AoE 4, you can use Roman ruins as stone mines… In AoE 2, you could do the same with building ruins, so the map wouldn’t be so empty of new resources in the late game… The Mongols in AoE 4 can also plunder resources by attacking buildings…

That’s basically the AoE 3 experience that’s called “fame” in the code game…
