New surprise DLC on 25th anniversary?

No longer an issue. The CCP has rolled back censorship laws on video games as of last year due to a combination of internal backlash and falling sales.

Very big possibility this is the reason.

Good point. That could be the case. If someone had checked before the V&V release, that might be able to solve this…

If true, it still does not discount China from the speculation. It’s still the most likely choice. Just less evidence for it.

We can see here that both have been last modified in March 14 (day/month/year is the writing convention for dates in my country) which is the release date for V&V.

That still does not clarify it one way or another. V&V was listed as DLC6 when uploaded, not 5, so it would have been implemented with the flan of the next DLC in place.

What I meant was, if we looked before V&V was uploaded, and it was there with Mountain Royals’ scenes in, that would clarify it for sure.

Yes, but I don’t think the next dlc needs a placeholder file full of V&V content before its own content is released.

There were placeholders for Lords of the West before release.

This one could just be there and full of useless V&V stuff to not draw attention to a weird empty file.

At the same time, it being a potential copy does probably mean this should be dismissed for the time being, unless something turns up to make it more concrete.

So I’m actually not convinced that this doesn’t refer to TMR. The TMR that was released didn’t include a civ split (presumably persians) but it did include a scenario editor only unit, the qizilbash, that is the only scenario unit to have a regular and elite version.

Seems to me that TMR likely at one point included a civ split of persians, and it was cut during development. So the original roadmap, could have been referring to TMR when it implied another civ split dlc

An interesting theory. Although the Qizilbash is utterly insane stats-wise. So not sure how far that idea had gone before being cut. There’s no way that unit would have seen the light of day.

Back to the achievement for a moment. It does resemble the style of the hidden achievements before with the underscore and then a number; the important part being that their numbers correlated to them being next in in line.

The new achievement is missing the x between underscore and number, though, and I don’t know about other people but for me there’s no icon.

If there was a Qizilbash civ, there should also be a Qizilbash campaign and a Persian campaign.
Obviously Ismail was supposed to be the Qizilbash campaign, and the campaign for the new Persian civ that was supposed to cover more specifically to the ancient part might be based on a story of for example the sassanid empire. Even if the Persian split was already canceled during development, they could still go on the sassanid concept for the campaign rather than using the Qizilbash campaign.

It’s weird. Just like, for example, there were a Slav split and a potential Polish civ getting canceled, and they still chose Jadwiga with untrainable Winged Hussars for the Slavs campaign while putting aside a concept or even semi-product for the campaign based on Vladimir the Great of Kievan Rus.

I’d still like to believe the Qizilbash was just born for dressing the Persian campaign.

Or… a faction from the FUTURE, fighting with lasers, orbital cannons, gravity bombs and so on, against an unexpected alliance of archenemies fighting them with arrows, swords and catapults, and winning at last?

All remember the terrible Gungan Wars of 1313, when the Turks and Byzantines signed an alliance to destroy the terrible Jar Jar Khan because he was way too annoying.

Maybe in a galaxy far far away? (dreaming for that Star Wars: Galactic Battleground Definitive Edition to be a real thing).

Also we are still missing some campaigns for Return of Rome (6 I believe) which could amount to the, in theory, 44 new achievements. 44 achievements are quite a lot though and could contain both new civ specific ones (“win a game as X”, “do this civ specific thing”) and campaign ones (usually 4 per campaign, three for specific tasks and 1 for beating the campaign). There are no missing civs in RoR so its unlikely to all be RoR, it’s also unlikely they would release content for both games simultaneously even if that would explain the amount of achievements.

There is also a possibility there is no new content at all, or a minor patch. Like the Feb 2023 update that added a bunch of achievements that were “missing”. Again, unlikely 44 new achievements are added without any specific new content however.

That’s my parents anniversary. Let’s see if we get an announcement on that day.

If it’s the story about her avenging her husband’s death, that’s ONE siege. Could be one scenario, but not a whole campaign.

Glad you read it now.
