New surprise DLC on 25th anniversary?

I must say I am very disappointed with the way devs are treating us lately.

Wow. The Guardian made an article.

yeah, not an aoe3 player myself, but that “”“”“”“”“”“DLC reveal”“”“”“”“”“” in february was unbelievable. I was definitely pretty upset about V&V but it was surely better than two flags and 7 months of no other updates.

Is there a persistent issue with Persian architecture in AOE3 that the developers have been neglecting update after update?

Have they faced significant problems, like pathing issues, for months?

Have they received DLCs with icon packs?

Do they have reused campaign mods for DLC?

Is there unannounced future DLC planned for this year? They have two flags, while we have nothing.

Were they overlooked during their anniversary?

I could continue listing concerns.

How does this situation compare overall?

Ok, since we are extremely close to the reveal of the DLC, here is my (completely unrealistic and exaggerated) prediction. Lets see how much we will get. Everything is inspired by the number 5 and potential smaller DLCs that we don’t see yet.

  • 5 new Civs:
    ** Thai
    ** Tibetans
    ** Jurchen
    ** Khitans
    ** Tanguts
  • 5 new Campaigns for existing civs:
    ** China
    ** Japan
    ** Korea
    ** Turks
    ** Maya
  • 5 regional unit skins
    ** European
    ** East Asian
    ** American
    ** African
    ** Middle eastern
  • 5 new profile picture packs
  • A birthday DLC Pack combining event rewards (Mods and Profile pics) of the last 5 years for the people that missed them.

so 5 times 5 = 25 celebrating both Birthdays of AOE2.

Problem is this Cysion said that they cannot introduce regional skins because it will bloat the memory requirements or something. Is this valid?

If it is possible for monks, trade chards and buildings, I would not understand why it wouldn’t work for other units.

They had a bug that was fixable in 5 minutes for months

They reused Knights of Saint John assets for Malta

They are continuously overlooked in tournaments.
Remember there was a picture in Twitter that used Paladins fighting against Galleons? Yeah, they used AoE2 instead AoE3, in an event that ocurred during AoE3 timeline

In the time AoE2 had TMR and V&V, they had nothing

Now I am very excited for this upcoming DLC - imagining it is the sinosphere including the Thai/Tai/Siamese.

Some African civs down the line along with Meso American ones.

As far as Euro civs are concerned I see a crucial 6 missing.

SAXONS - highly relevant during migration period, fits in for example with a Charlemagne (Franks) campaign as well along with them being highly relevant German settlers in eastern europe and the Balkans (transylvania).

GAULS - still relevant early middle ages and historically relevant to Romans, Huns, Franks.

DANES - powerhouse in the baltics during high to late middle ages. Many want Swedes but their unification and history is relevant post middle ages. Rename Vikings to Norse and have them represent the “Viking” period Scandinavians.

VENETIANS - very historical and influential civ. Italians can remain to represent Ligurians and Lombards etc. Possible rename to Lombards.

VLACHS - Absolutely. A must.

SERBS - possible other name, but a civ that represents the yugoslavs (south slavs).

Rename Sicilians to Normans so they are properly represented as they were highly relevant and dominating high middle ages, give them a proper strong cavalry unit.
Rename Britons to English.
Teutons representing HRE / Teutonic Order. One could also argue for Alamanians to be represented which would form the Swabians, Swiss etc just like a Bavarian offshoot formed Austria. So with Teutons, Saxons, and Franks (which modern Dutch stem from along with Frisians)- those are 3 “Germany” civs.
Possible rebranding of Celts - possibly Scots or Gaels to represent the kingdom of Scotland but also the Irish tribe Scoti and Irish lads overall.

Where did he say so? Time Stamp?

The video starts when the topic is brought up. If it’s not working for you: 23:49

Also in other news, there has been no updates since pup_nov, another microsoft_testing and microsoft_build_final_test 13 hours ago. I don’t think we have long to go now.

I would guess at the end of RBW, or in the following few days.

At this point I would be happy if they at least completed the remaining regional skins for the monks.

Yeah. I understand not doing it for nearly every unit, as that’s an immense amount of work.

But the monk skins are already in the game.

Yeah, Monks would be a little bit easier than other options considering they don’t have any upgrades, though they still have to do 8 sprites (for each direction the unit might be facing) for each part of every possible animation. It’s not so surprising that they prioritized units with very few animation, kings and trade carts can’t even attack after all.

Yes, I agree, but the current state of monks is a bit strange, since it has a partial regional skin implemented (European and meso-american). Maybe with future updates it will be completed.

Only for the African monk. The priest, Imam and East Asian monk are already in the game. Although the latter two do need sprites for picking up relics.

Ok, I saw the video.
Of course if we have a unique skin for every unit for EVERY civ that would increase the file size a lot. But we are talking about 5, maybe 7 different skins, where not every unit would be needed to be changed. Elephants are already Indian only for example.
And with all the new units we got since the DE, the file size did not increase that much. And as a solution for people with weaker computers, it can still be optional. Even though I think it’s not as critical for the memory as he said. I can make a scenario with every unit in the game, 8 players and 500 pop limit and it still runs normal.
So I stay hopeful that we could have a regional skin option in the game.

Thank You.

Really unfortunate, means Regional Skin is never coming
