There were also the Yapese Empire and Saudeleur Dynasty of Micronesia.
Honest question: did they have metal, horses, siege weapons, castles or something like a wonder?
I hope the AoE2 Smash Bros-style medley I commissioned for my friend a few years ago is in it.
What controversy? What happened?
Doesn’t this just confirm that there’s a new PUP planned for November – not necessarily that the new DLC will be released then?
I just googled the polinesian warfare. They didn’t even have bows and arrows. Only wooden clubs and spears. Even for aoe3 they are at best a native settlement. I don’t see how a civ that’s basically in the stone age, would be realistically be represented in aoe2. Even the north American tribes are closer and even there it’s difficult.
No, the pup_nov branch contains depots for the DLC 5 unnamed steam app.
That’s not an unreasonable question tho. it’d occurred to me last night, but when I checked today, the pup, at least currently, contains stuff for DLC 5.
Just something to talk about while we wait. The AoE2 DE devs seem to like including scrapped concepts (Savar, combat/ranged switch) and after spotting some scrapped buildings, it would honestly be a shame for them to go to waste. So I hope when/if we get unique castles for every civ, this…
gets recycled into the Franks castle. As it’s honestly really beautiful.
I don’t know where you read that, but it’s not true. Not even close.
Edit: Actually, it’s true that they didn’t really use bows and arrows in combat, but they at least had the technology. You were misleading and suggested that they didn’t even have the knowledge, which is blatantly false. The Aztecs and Mayans also basically didn’t use bows in combat.
ahem Aztecs and Mayans.
Where from was this?
I believe one of the artists for the game posted it. There wasn’t any other cut stuff in there. But this was pretty spectacular.
Eh, I’m not a massive fan, because it looks quite a bit too big for the collision box and feels awkward as a result.
Any link to the site?
So, Micronesians (these two), Melanesian (Fiji and Melanesia proper), Polynesians (Samoa, Tonga, Macronesia, Rapa Nui), maybe Maori.
Honestly, four isn’t terrible, but imo there’s not much else there, and with the general consensus being moving away from small sandbox regions and fracturing umbrellas, I don’t think you’re gonna get them anytime soon
Preordered players play the new civs in non-ranked games 1 day earlier. If PUP is public, all players can play it in non-ladder games usually for a week or 2.
Add Khmer house in the list.
It’s a shame they didn’t decide to at least release cosmetic DLC for the 25th anniversary of AoE 2. For example they could release two Cosmetic Packages - Regional Unit Skins & Castle Pack.
They wouldn’t have had to release a “traditional” DLC especially for this occasion - and they didn’t release anything anyway.
At this point I feel burned out, it’s like what’s even the point of waiting and hoping anymore?
So far every single DLC released since last year had been mediocre at best and completely pointless in it’s existence at worst. The Devs haven’t done any updates or patches in the past several months and only really give us breadcrumbs to tease the next “big DLC”.
We can sit here and talk about how they’ve been working on his for a while, but in reality every single piece of DLC other than DoI has been inferior compared to what we got in the HD era. To the point I have to ask after all this.
Why are we still here? Why are we still hoping for something good when it’s apperant they just do their usual stuff? There’s no meaning in hoping for anything after we’ve been burned so many times.
I’d say it’s about time we all just give up. The DLC is there, the evidence for it exists. But I’d say it’s not worth it anymore, they won’t make it worthwhile for us after all this.
The Maori are Polynesians. In my Oceania expansion concept, the fourth civ was the Filipinos, an infantry, gunpowder, and naval civilization.
Well, four is all I really need.
Unlike others, I don’t see anything wrong with umbrella civs if they are justified. The only umbrella I could see having multiple civs is the Polynesians, being the Tongans, Samoans, and even Hawaiians. One would be hard-pressed to find unique traits for all of them, but I’m sure it could be done. That’s the main way that Oceania representation could realistically happen.
I hope we will see some Chinese siege weapons. That would be the way to give them more identification like it was done with the elephants for the Indians.
