I really don’t like this
I’m sorry, but after this I don’t buy game, it feels like slap to face to catch casual fortnite kids auditory that don’t care about rts anyway. I may understand heavily censorship like in Australia, Germany, China, etc. But why just release free dlc with blood and Gore and more details with parental control? Why modders should improve realistic, animations, add blood and gore? Maybe even more, maybe you give us just engine for 60$ with tools, because who want game that they will mod it by themselves? What’s next? Who want not clash of clans gameplay will mode it?
me neither.
If there’s going to be a vibrancy setting why not an option to turn blood on and off as well?
we want the game to be playable by as many people at as many age ranges as possible,so we intentionally avoid that to keep our rating towards the low end of Teen.
Come on, we all know that those ratings are just indicative, the overwhelming majority doesn’t look at them. The game won’t be unplayable if there’s going to be a bit of blood on battlefield. It’s war, people kill each other. So, for a little kid it is ok to make their men kill other men, even kill unarmed women and men (vills) and burn their houses, their mills, their villages to the ground, but not ok to see their blood spilling? As if they don’t know the human body consists of blood, those age ratings are pure hypocrisy. Kids nowadays are way more familiar with violence in video games than in the past, this is not a GTA, open world, first person, role playing, or shooter game, its a damn RTS. Big deal.
I really don’t want to rely on fan-made content for such a thing, that should be there in one way or another. Give a paid DLC if you want, anything.
They are turning the saga into something very childish with this decision, I won’t buy anything that doesn’t have blood and rotting corpses. Besides that I would like to see blood during the combat and not only when the units die.
This is really hard to understand. We are talking about a medieval war game, so how in the world could it don’t have blood? We are literally going to raze cities, destroy buildings and kill units, but without a little bit of blood? Every AoE had it, and AoE IV is going to feel so unrealistic because of this.
We are not claiming for gore or mutilations, the classic bit of blood for realism’ sake would be enough!
LEL, why not just include the option to turn it on or off? LOL, what the f is this? Kids play GTA V, Witcher 3, and Red Dead 2 these days. F off! First bad move made for sure.
smh, quiet a shameful idea to be honest. Now people who say this game-“cartoony” will have some more “evidence” to support that claim. Why not just give us toggle, I get why they want to give the game some age range, but if kids are playing with moms and dads, parents can turn it off.
Nobody cares about age ratings. Most kids played GTA V and loved it. So much for staying true to community, microsoft? After this, all the people who claim the game is being a childish mobile phone game will be right. Sell outs.
“However, much like every other Age game, I’m sure we’ll have a ‘bloody mess’ mod (or something as equally creative in name) within a day or so of release by an enthusiastic fan for those that want that in their gameplay.”
Since when did you turn to Bethesda? Leaning on the back of modders? Seriously? Why not have a ■■■■ toggle of blood? I was only supporting AOE4 to the false accussations by other users regarding cartoon graphics, but really? You are going to take away BLOOD from a medieval game, that people kill for land, changing the religion of the enemy and enslaving population? Is this what you call a ‘‘aoe2’’ approach? I am so ■■■■■■■ dissapointed. Age ratings are a joke, nobody cares about them. Most kids who are not supposed to play GTA V, have played GTA V and most of the time with the endorsement of their parents and their parent’s money. If you dont start taking AOE4 seriously, then it will flop. Plain and simple. Censorship has done nothing good to gaming and most games that forced this kind of ridiculous censorship have failed miserably. I dont know what to say, honestly. Guess I’ll play AOE2 forever, a game that takes itself seriously. No blood in medieval era, lmfao.
At this point, i’d take a blood DLC if it was free. But if they wait for modders to fix the immersion of the game, that’s a huge red flag for me.
People hate on this already, just see the comments.
I see. Many people don’t like this.
I read the article and do not, for the life of me, see that Adam Isgreen ever said there would be no blood in AoE4 or that he said they would, as the headline claims, “intentionally avoid blood and gore.”
I see that he said this:“we want the game to be playable by as many people at as many age ranges as possible, so we intentionally avoid that to keep our rating towards the low end of Teen.”
Every AoE game has been rated Teen except one (AoEO, which was 10+). That AoE4 would also be rated Teen does not mean there would be no blood or gore. Rather, I would expect precisely the same amount of blood and gore we’ve had in those previous titles.
Clickbait garbage that article.
Well what about the mod for blood?
I just hope they put it as a toggle option at least.
I get the fact that they want to reach more people but let be honest, kids nowadays plays absolutely everything regarding the age restriction. Horror games with blood and gore, sexual content and even fps games or others with loads of violence.
Trying to avoid things to reach lower age restriction, at this point, it’s kind of unnecesary for me.
I was 10 when i played Age of Empires for the very first time and fall in love with it and the RTS genre.
If this is for real, i don’t like it.
The quote: "However, much like every other Age game, I’m sure we’ll have a ‘bloody mess’ mod (or something as equally creative in name) within a day or so of release by an enthusiastic fan for those that want that in their gameplay.” (Emphasis added.)
Isgreen is literally comparing AoE4’s blood to “every other Age game.” I do not see how someone can read that article and come away thinking that AoE4’s blood will be any different than every other Teen-rated AoE game, except, of course, that the headline completely mischaracterizes the content of the article.
He did not compare anything, he said that just like other AOE games, there will be mods. That’s what he says, literally.
I agree. He also never says that AoE4 will have any amount of blood less than the prior games.

this is the back of the AoE 3 box.
It says: Teen
Blood
Violence
It does not seem to me that anyone has ever complained about the degree of violence on AoE3. And on the label is written “teen”.
Adam has just said he wants to keep a low profile of violence, stop.
You raised a good point. Age 2 DE even has blood in the game, although toggable, but it also has Teen rating. I don’t know why these people just say “hey yes we will leave the blood & gore as toggle” very poor choice of words in the article. @AndyPXIII is correct, article is baitey as ■■■■. You will have to reread couple of times to understand the wording. Don’t infer guys, go with information on the hand.
Just end the ■■■■■■■■ arguments and haters like some of us here with a toggle. First minority in the community complained that game has too much saturation, Adam clarifies, saturation can be controlled, I ask why not blood and gore too? I would like that. Parents who play with their kids, just flip it off, and we can turn it on. Relic can add blood, please allow them (they also know how to add dismemberment, DOW and COH for i.e.).
Yeah, don’t remind me of Total War Shogun 2, I had to pay ■■■■■■■ 3$ to see blood in the game. If they do make it into dlc, and charge for it, I will leave a bad review no matter how good their game is. I can’t stand greedy people.
However, much like every other Age game, I’m sure we’ll have a ‘bloody mess’ mod (or something as equally creative in name) within a day or so of release by an enthusiastic fan for those that want that in their gameplay.”
Ah yes, ‘Enhanced Blood’ definitely is a very creative name
