Non-biased Auto-Queue poll

Works pretty well in AoM. Frees people up for more interesting early gameplay. Also makes more sense to me than auto-scout, which is automating important decision making (whether to scout res or scout enemy, whether to check for tech switch or scout possible expansion locations). Luckily auto-scout isn’t better than a decent player, so doesn’t get used too much, and doesn’t take away from the strategic depth of scouting and hidden information. Auto-queue would definitely become the norm, and would remove this artificial depth of periodic button-bashing to remind the computer you haven’t changed your mind about idling your TC yet. It would make the interesting parts of the game accessible to everyone and would have virtually no effect at the high-level, except possibly an increased focus on strategy. I haven’t read a convincing argument against it here, on AoEzone or on reddit.

Yeah it works so well it’s beating the crap out of aoe2 in playerbase. Oh wait. It’s not. Aoe2 is still thd gold standard and always was.

Auto scout is also designed to be inferior by default then normal scouting, so anyone using it is not getting as good information as someone normal scouting. Are you saying auto queue would cost more resources or take longer to pop out units or have downtime between each unit?

Yeah I never got into AoM to be honest. Just one thing it had going for it. Long-time fan of AoE2 and the community. It has a lot going for it. I just think it has a couple of outdated features.

No, I don’t think you would need to nerf auto-queue, because manually retasking the TC to continue making villagers every few seconds does not add strategy or depth, and shouldn’t give a player an advantage. I can only imagine seeing more exciting gameplay and strategy in a tournament where autoqueue is available.
However I am glad that auto-scout is not as good as manual scouting, because manual scouting adds strategy and depth to the gameplay. I think we should be careful about what we automate.

It does. It means one more thing to keep track of. Which is at the core of rts games, keeping track of everything going on. If you focus too much on your unit micro but ignore production for a minute or two your falling behind on units. Rts is all about decision making.

I think this is a good point that your limited APM is a resource you have to manage in an RTS game. It can be a strategic decision to allow your TC to idle for a few seconds to focus on microing down an enemy vill. I get that.

However, there are more interesting elements of gameplay that should be dividing your attention instead of mindlessly and repeatedly clicking this hotkey. It just feels like a click tax, whereas scouting well, balancing your economy and micro-ing your army to outmanouvre opponents are strategic gameplay. I imagine the result of spare APM would be more creativity in these aspects of gameplay.
I welcome your reply here but I am going to stop spamming this topic now I’ve expressed my view and will reply by PM.
