One of the current castles will be replaced

The African castle has a large keep, it merely has to deal with the small towers

I’m not sure what you mean, sorry. Its keep us about 1/4 of the size of the AoK castles’ keeps (since those are just keeps), so not large in comparison.

The keep is larger than the middle eastern keep who also has three towers

Its also more like a third

Oh, I see. Yes, true, its keep is taller than that alpha castle’s keep – but still much smaller than the AoK castles’ keeps.

What civ does the castle to the left belong to in this picture?

Central European style, so Teutons Vikings Goths. The roof structure is reused for their TC.

But the roof is Red.

One on top is Central European.

Looks more western european, it would be more in line with their architecture.

Just compare to the corresponding walls

PS: Now that I look carefully, it looks like a midway between the two.

Indeed, I focused more on the CE architecture looking more red, while a dark roof is WE.

The roof is closer from the WE TC though, exact same structure…

We’d need some alpha pics of other buildings. From what I remember the overall style was very different from what we are used to.

Central European doesn’t seem to have its own User Interface till now.

Berbers will switch architecture set from Middle East?

Most of the other buildings in the alpha version containing those castles come quite close to their final versions. The biggest exception is the Dark Age architecture.

The Castle with the red roof is definitely the Central European one.

There is no reason why. Either the Malians or the Ethiopians will retain the current african castle, I’m leaning toward the Malians as the current castle feels more appropriate to them (merchant clothes hanged as sun protection) and the new one feels more mountanous so for Ethiopians, as if built on a rocky spike.

For Berbers, between Morocco and Andalusia there is quite a lot to pick from.

Probably not.

The African Castle resembles Almoravid adobe architecture like the Koubba and Aït Benhaddou in Morocco (AoE Wiki). So Berbers will take the current Castle and Malians will get a new one. As for Ethiopians, we can already see their castle on teaser picture.

It was a bit of a squeeze to fit everything onto one screenshot, but here they all are in Imperial Age:

Mostly pretty similar to the final versions – the central European set is clearly the most unfinished.

Either Berbers or Malians getting it seems plausible to me. I’m not sure how it would look for Berbers alongside the middle eastern architecture set. I agree that the Ethiopian one is on the teaser picture.

It indeed was mostly a colour swap of the WE one.

Also where did you find a beta version ?

I just realized among all the 8 Mediterranean civs, only Spanish one is yet to reveal. 4 already have unique castle. And we can already identify Byzantines and Portuguese.

Little correction,

*Mayans = America
*Goths = C. Europe

Since in game Goths also represent the Anglo-Saxons I think they are a better candidate to have an English Castle than Teutons.

Goths will have a much earlier castle as their kingdoms were destroyed in the 6th and 8th centuries respectively. While the WE castle is based on Bodiam Castle, which is late 14th century.

If anything Goths should have a castle that looks closer from the Romans.

Sure Goths are an appropriate placeholder for Anglo-Saxons but they didn’t have much stone fortifications before the Normans arrived, an anglo-saxon castle would use quite a bit of wood instead of tall full-stone walls.
