Look at AoE2 and AoE4 and then look back at this - we (and I’m talking Euro civ fans) are getting truly spoilt by these new historic and unique skins/models. Heck, historical references that would be considered as completely not necessary are being added to Home City Shipments - the Devs clearly enjoy the history covered in the AoE3 timeline.
AoE3 has fully embraced being the ‘non’ golden-child of the series by actually being the one to now focus on these historical touches.
Now, what would be fantastic would be the same amount of name/skin changes & attention to detail for Asian and Native American civs. There are a number of passionate users on here who have some really sensible changes (particularly Lakota ) and it would rather great for Devs to look at them after the Euros. I’m sure it will happen, especially as the community love the little historical changes to the Euro civs - we just need to be patient
(Italy unified and conquered all of Western Europe to recreate the Roman Empire)…
Yes, by the voortrekkers, who used covered and defensive wagons with muskets (aka war wagons) during the great trek…
Interesting…
Yes, France is becoming more Napoleonic and not so colonial…
Yes, forget about it, the PUP of August, actually they should call it the PUP of September xd…
Of course, it’s like they put the napoleonic era mod in the game, besides the napoleonic wars is the climax of the game and it’s easier to promote the game…“Are you tired of fighting in the Crusades in AoE 2 DE?..Well come to AoE 3 DE and conquer Europe with Napoleon”…Sponsored by “Napoleon” by Ridley Scott
Yes, the next dlc will be in Asia (Middle East or Southeast)…
Ugh… Thank goodness… it still depresses me that they don’t get more dlcs from it…
Yes, it could be… maybe they will do it later… although with the fact that they are European civs it seems strange to me…
Likewise, this graph does not include unique civilian units (coureur de bois, merchant, yoruk, iman, settler’s wagon, missionary or architect)… nor does the Spanish war dog…
And the native civs, the dancing seconds…
Yeah, maybe they could do like AoE 1 and rearrange the techs depending on what age you are:
Exploration Age: late medieval and renaissance technologies (1420-1520) (here you allow to create the crossbowman and the pikeman)
Commerce Age: technologies from the Pike and shot era/Italian Wars (1520-1620) (here you put the cannoneer for example and that it is no longer a mercenary but a standard unit of the game)
Fortresses Age: technologies of the 30 Years War and the Great Turkish War (1620-1720) (here you put the musketeer for example)
Industrial Age: technologies obviously industrial and from the Napoleonic era (1720-1820) (here it is as always, with the possibility of creating skirmishers)
Imperial Age: technologies from the Victorian era and the belle epoque (1820-1920)…maybe you can create some WW1 tanks and reconnaissance planes like in the Wars of Liberty mod…
Yes, if the United States and Mexico are in the game, the next post-colonial civ is Brazil… and well, if Brazil is there, let them include Argentina and then Gran Colombia and Haiti in a Caribbean dlc…
Yes, maybe in time they will put 5 UUs for each European civ (except the Ottomans of course)…
Yes, that is, the AoE 3 period is super interesting and with a lot of potential, you have everything from Spanish Conquistadors and Tercios and Musketeers to Pirates and Cowboys from the Far West…you know all the campaigns you could do…you can do campaigns like Assasins Creed 4 (a Francis Drake-skinned pirate building an empire in the 18th-century Caribbean), Rogue (a John Black-skinned mercenary betrayed by his allies fighting the French-Indian War), Unity (a French musketeer fighting in the French Revolution and under the command of Napoleon), Syndicate (two brothers fighting mercenary bands in Victorian London allied with an Indian who fought in the Sepoy Rebellion) and RDR2 (a gunslinger looking for a new home in a gang of outlaws) or any Call of Juarez (from the American Civil War in Bound in Blood to the start of the Mexican Revolution like in RDR1)…
Same here, though I think that they should be available as a pan-Euro replacement-shipment to those with crossbow/bow infantry. Literally everyone and their mother used Arquebusiers. Just give an them an Archaic tag then Spanish would get ‘better’ ones via their Archaic Infantry shipments.
Tenuously linked, I wonder how the Spanish Church techs will appear when we take the below note into account:
Each unique Church technology and Royal Guard unit now has unique visuals.
Might this mean that Corselet might add graphical changes to Heavy Infantry or is this a little far-fetched?
On the British side:
Thin Red Line (The Glorious Revolution): Now only applies to Musketeers instead of all Infantry and changes their visuals.
This further adds that Church techs (not just shipments) themselves have a graphic element too.
I suspect they are trying to broaden the game’s appeal to more casual players by colouring in all these small details like the unique skins for different Musketeers and so on. Honestly, if it attracts more players and doesn’t mess with the gameplay, then I’m all for cosmetic changes. I definitely agree that there are non-European civs who need it more, though. Perhaps I just don’t like change that much, but I do hope they keep the shared European units about the same as they are now on a functional level. I don’t think every single unit needs to have its own gimmick to differentiate it from others.
Yes, thank you. Although there are differences that arise from extra stat boost cards and Royal Guard upgrades, every Euro Musketeer for example has the same base stats, multipliers, ROF, etc. The changes coming in the new update cut a bit deeper than this, like with the ROF buff to the Needle Gunners with their guard upgrade. The more I write about it, the more I think I’m just not a big fan of stat changes if they’re done for flavour rather than for balance.
I’m very scared of how the new Spanish Churh FF (Piroshiki) is gonna look like. I don’t understand why they buffed one of the strongest strategies in the game even further. If anything, it needed a nerf to turn guard halbs into veteran ones.
They are reworking all the civs, now the unfair thing would be to put 4 units to the Ottomans and none to the others. I just ask that you don’t leave it halfway and do it with all of them. I want a balanced game in every way. The developers are doing what they want with the definitive edition, if you don’t like it go back to the complete collection
Oui, c’est comme un sixième âge, il y a des zeppelins et des biplans et quand les zeppelins libèrent du gaz, ça fait comme… c’est-à-dire que c’est directement WW1 xd…
Regardless of the above, the Peruvian guard is a force to be reckoned with, I think their main problem apart from the speed of their charged attack is how awkward it is to produce the unit from 3 urban centers (Spain). I think you could use a card that increases the number of urban centers that Peru can build.
Also, it’s rare that the Peruvian guard’s charged ability doesn’t appear in the interface, I don’t know if it’s a bug or intentional, but I think it should be visible as with the rest of the abilities.
PS: The new Morochuco feels a bit generic, I would like to see it with its own Skin.
