Poll about which area of the world the playerbase wants more civs from

Serbs, Saxons, Swiss and Venetians, would all be Heavy Infantry civs, by default.

I really canā€™t believe Europe has such a lead, i keep hearing people complaining about too much European civs but it appears that those people are just most vocal.

It seems so. It also confirm what I have said for a long time, in many issues.

-The main playerbase is Western.
-Europeans are tired of hearing Western culture get bashed, and are redeveloping a sense of superior exceptionalism.
-Europe was the true hotbead of innovation in the Medieval period.
-RTS is to the West what Fighting games are to the East. You expect most characters in Street Fighter to be Asian, so you must also expect most civs/factions in a RTS game to be European/Western.

This is so true! I never had issues in fighting games to have so much Asian characters, even though West had to offer much such as Boxing for one. Good point, i didnā€™t think about that, i just took it for grantedā€¦

Not really [Polls] On regards to new civs

I think the current poll is mostly OK. As Asia is such a giant continent, we can all agree that a middle eastern civ and a far eastern civ is a very different thing.

The one thing that doesnā€™t make much sense to me is the east/west Africa divide. Iā€™d much rather have a north south divide, e.g. based off the Sahara desert. I donā€™t think it would fundamentally change the outcome of the poll, but it would be a bit fairer on the continent, as northern african cultures are also very much unlike the cultures in the southern part of the continent. But to emphasize, this east/west thing is not a big deal imho.

Tbh thats putting really diferent civs togheter. Imo Eastern and western makes a bit more sense ignoring the Bantu civs who may go better alone

Why? Berbers are eastern, and e.g. Egyptians (represented by Saracens) are western, but donā€™t have as much difference between them as letā€™s say Berbers and Malians. I mean, even in the middle ages, there was a pretty clear divide below and above the Sahara generally speaking

Berbers and Malians are much closer than Malians and Bantus or Kanembu and Swahili

Not to mention theres not any civ to add in northern Africa outside Nubians (who would fit better as an Eastern African civ with Somalis and Swahilis imo) and Vandals

North Africa is fully covered, and Subsaharan Africa, at least as far as I am aware, is classically divided in East and West.
For example, Kongo is in West Africa, while Zimbabwe is in East Africa.

I do agree that there are not many civs in northern africa left. But not none. I just think that the east/west divide is not helpful on a relatively narrow but long continentā€¦

If we have to be totally fair the correct division would probably be North (Mediterranean Africa), East (Nubians, Somalis and Swahili), West (Sahel) and South Africa (the Bantu kingdoms).

North Africa is really small compared to sub Saharian Africa

It does not matter, anyway, they are both at 3% and 4% each.

Which makes a lot of sense historically speaking.
Donā€™t get me wrong i do not avocate for euro-centrism I just mean that if you want to tell stories about medieval history (which is how DLC are built , around historical stories and characters) there simple is more material and details and documented facts to work with , is all

Eh, disagree on that. Theres already a ton of cool games based on Asia

And all of them sold the most in teh West, and still sold less than games based on the West.

I really like Three Kingdoms: Fate of the Dragon, but it never sold as much as AoE2.

Im not talking about marketability.

Im not expecting an Africa based RTS but saying that it makes more sense to base medieval or ancient games on Europe (instead of Asia) historically speaking isnt really true imo

Both are legit options

More sense I dont know, but it definitely makes a lot of sense, it is the easy solution , and a working one for Microsoft and the player base : i do not expect any thing else to happen
