[Poll] Where Should the Next DLC Focus?

Can always add a Székely civi.

Potential Romanians civ doesn’t like this :joy:

Anywhere except Europe. We have way too many European civs already

I don’t mind all the European civs because I like European history the best, first and foremost, but I also think that campaigns are much more interesting if there are a large number of civs currently in the game involved in the scenarios.

Thats a logic that just leads to greater and greater concentration around Europe

The rest of the world doesnt have enough civs for a campaign, so we focus on European campaigns and the imbalanxe grows and grows and you get more arbitrary and/or insignificant Euro civs

in campaigns goths represented all slavic civis then slavs replaced them again slavs got replaced with correct civis. If the trend continues romanians will replace slavs in dracula campaign.

Even when other parts of the world get represented (and I definitely think they should), to me, their campaigns will always be inherently less interesting because I find it harder to relate to non-European civilizations. There’s also the fact that many newer civs were historically isolated and only interacted with one or two civs currently in the game, whereas many of the classic civs were involved in wars with each other, making for more interesting and diverse opponents.

Places like the Americas or Polynesia might fall in to this category but im sure asia africa will have multiple interactions.

The Old World should be a priority in a game about the Middle Ages. Of course, highly developed pre-Columbian civilizations are an interesting exception.

For me it’s Legacy of Rome expansion:
Ivan III (Slavs)
Majorian (Romans)
Mehmed II (Turks)
Vlachs civ for Dracula

Only if the civs are not as isolated as the ones currently in the game. The problem with Africa is that, despite being a very large continent, the areas that are inhabitable by a large population are a small fraction of that total. You can divide it into basically West Sahel, East Sahel and Great Lakes region and have at least two civs in each and you’re good to go (not counting North Africa since they’re not as isolated). Actually, even the Ethiopians had some interactions with outside civilizations. Not sure why they went with 5 Ethiopians mirror scenarios as Yodit.

If the Jurchens are added I can see a Houjou Tokimune campaign where you fight Mongols, Chinese, Koreans and Jurchens as an easy addition.

Since I’m not the most knowledgeable person on history, can anyone tell with how many existing civs did Nubians interact? Hopefully more than Saracens, Byzantines and Ethiopians.

Pretty sure this is it from the ingame civis. This is more than enough to qualify to be ingame.

Nothing against your taste or liking. But you know Joan of Arc campaign existed with 2 civs and now 3 civs. Even mostly a legend based “Yodit” campaign have 2 civs with Nubians kingdom represented as Ethiopians.

Some historic assumption is Sassanids expansion on Egypt during 619-629 AD reached Nubians Kingdoms. So Persians can also be a potential.

I think that’s enough for one campaign, and they still could be placeholder in campaigns of the region.

To me, I think the potential civs in Africa could be:

  • DLC1: Soninke, Songhai, Kanembu/Kanuris.
Then in the West Africa there could be own building set with Malians and they could interact with each other.
  • DLC2: Nubians, Somalis, Bantu.
They and Ethiopians could have another African building style with more thatch and less mud, and clearly could interact with each other in East Africa.

Guess somebody would complain the Bantu that are an umbrella. I just simply consider that the entities of Bantu were relatively isolated in Meddle Ages and many of them were usually concentrated in the late 15th and 16th centuries, therefore they are fine to be covered by a civ. Their campaign can probably be a Kongolese story, meanwhile they can represent Swahilis in other campaigns like one for Somalis.

Only 1 of them will appear in the campaign though.

I would tend to add Yoruba, Edo, Hausa, Fulani and Jolof to this list, which would obviously necessitate more than one dlc. And yes, I would split the Bantu apart, with at least the Kongolese, Shona and Swahili. Everyone interacted with at the very least the Portuguese, for the Swahili you could add Saracens, Persians, Chinese, Malays and pretty much old Indian civs. Aside from that, all three of them should have a completely different playstyle.

They can create a DLC about Chinese dynasties, including Jurchen (Jin Dynasty) and Tibetans (Tibetan Empire), and tell a story about the rise of a Chinese dynasty (such as the rise of the Ming Dynasty), perhaps including stories about neighboring Korean dynasties

In my opinion, the number of DLCs for Africa are 2 at most in the foreseeable future.
I won’t be greedy and make more optimistic assumptions. Those civs would be covered, for example the Kanuris could cover the Hausa.

I choose to have an umbrella to represent them first. Maybe in the distant future this umbrella may be split, but if not, at least the 6 new civs I picked should be enough to present the Africa in a decent degree.

I think there may be a consensus that the next DLC is East Asia or Africa.
Just personally I’d like the Jurchens + Khitans. Tibetans/Qiangs are nice too.
