Portuguese Historical flavour

Heavy infantry Cassadores don’t make any sense, but the legacy units don’t need to be overly scared. Cassadores were a late development so I could see them becoming an age 4 unit like Bersagliere to make room for other light infantry. Either way, I’d rather they just get rid of the Ordinance Rifleman as it’s a totally redundant unit the way it is.

Streltsy are a good example of an original unit with the wrong tag. They were absolutely heavy infantry with their short ranged guns and huge battle axes. The actual Russian units that functioned like in game Streltsy are the Opolcheniye.

Caçadores should be Age 4 Skirmisher. Does not make much sense having them on age 3.

Age 2 and 3 should have Aventureiros/ Fidalgos.

Get rid of Organ Gun replace it with Berço.

Get a Unique Ship for Portugal. Its shamefull that they dont have an Unique Naval unit.

Give Marines to Spain and Portugal the 1st and 2nd countries of the world to actually have professional Marine Corps.

Wasn’t Venice the first country to have a marine or naval infantry corp in the modern sense?

Marines (or 'Naval Infantry) should just be a universal infantry trained via the dock (so only in play with the map has some water) that have some benefit to garrisoning ships.

Spain, Ports and Italy (Fanti da Mar) could have ‘early’ ones available and a few out of the whole Euro pool could have Royal Guard versions.

Could be pretty similar to US Marines (same tags) though with the Docks(and training ship) being the only way to access them.

Apparently, the Portuguese Legion soldiers were in the service of France, and their new brown uniform reflects this situation. So I decided they needed a new musketeer and a new Dragoon.

For Imperial Guerreiro

For Imperial Jinete

On the other hand, the Caçadores did wear a brown uniform. I made one of those as well.
For Imperial Caçador

What should we do with Legion Portuguese units? Mercs?

I’m going to necro this thread a bit because I just wanted to add: can we at least replace the Black Riders that we get from the “Order of Tower and Sword” church Tech with Elmetti? Because Ports could definitely use some decent heavy cav in the late game.

That would be cool. A limited accessibility heavy cavalry would help without too much risk of messing up the balance of the civ.

Maybe they still get dark armor? Elmetti with dark armor would look sweet beyond all reasonableness.

They could be called Acorbetados.

Just for the record, it’s Acobertado. I don’t know what you’re referring to but Portuguese is my first language.

Plus, the Portuguese already have one of the best Dragoons

I wonder if the Ports will get any love in the upcoming update?

Maybe they will get something or nothing. Its hard to tell.

Aside from the Portuguese the British have also been requested by other users in the past to get a rework or major update. The developer team themselves could also be more interested in reworking a civilisation that hasn’t been requested yet by the community.

Though it would be great if they were given a major update in either the upcoming update or future updates.

I would be happy if they got the Muleta or “Muleta do Seixal” which can be an unique fishing boat for them and provide a certain economical advantage for them. The boat has a very unusual design but it looks absolutely gorgeous. I think it would be a great addition to the Portuguese for the sake of highlighting their identity.
