It helps in castle age but not early games. You won’t spend a lot of resources to do research in early game. If this buff intends to buff Portuguese in Castle age, it will be great. But tech of next age is usually too expensive for the current age, especially dark/feudal age which your eco cannot support research.
You miss understood. I don’t want shipwright tech. I want to buff caravels train time and reduce wood cost because ports don’t have shipwright and don’t need it.
Definitely, a bonus like this should be paired by a large discount on the eco techs. Even if a discount on eco techs (like for Vietnamese) is already a powerful bonus per se…
No need to over complicate.
1st Buff Elite Organ Gun (Rate of fire or spread damage or speed or hp/armor, not more flat damage due to overkill). I don’t mind them becoming one of the strongest UU when massed, it should be the Portuguese power unit, Mangudai are allowed to be OP and are mobile and counter OG.
2nd Fix or change Arquebus
3rd Give a small eco bonus like starting with 25 extra stone doubling as you age up +50 in feudal + 100 in castle + 200 in Imp so they do not become too strong at tower rushing but can choose to either save stone for building early Castle, or build outposts or some stonewalls or a defensive tower while remaining above 200 stone for 2 tc’s in Castle Age or selling it for gold for faster fast castle strategies. Giving them more possibilities and ways to survive their weak early game complementing their wide tech tree without becoming obnoxious. I wouldn’t mind they nerf gold discount to 15% if needed.
Also a general change to HC, either a buff or reduce cost so we can see more of them.
If you think that other civ is better at Arabia map, you map pic it, when you play. And that is for all suggestions to buff some civs.
Hand canonneer and organ guns should be affected by ballistics as well. Maybe Conquistadors and Janissary should be affected as well. The projectile speed of gunpowder (except BBC and bombard tower) and organ guns should be improved up to 7 like arbalest’s arrows. It is acceptable even guns unit (not the cannon unit) have higher projectile speed than arrows.
Arquebus introduced a mechanism to reduce recoil of guns. Arquebus should improve Accuracy of guns (i.e. organ guns and HC) up to 90% and reduce frame delay to 5. Perhaps Arquebus should affect the guns units of whole team (i.e. HC, conquistadors, janissary, organ guns but not cannon units) to compensate the lost of team bonus after construction of market in feudal age. (like Berber’s UT)
Early buff can be outpost costing no stone.
Organ guns can be improved through mobility (movement speed up to 1) to support melee units if the above buff are not enough
Outputs doesnt cost stone is good idea but I guess that need palizade wall cost 1 wood instead 2 of wood, dont is a mega buff but is pretty reasonable for this civi.
This buff only covers palisade wall and partially a Mayan bonus. But Mayans have 50% cheaper wall of all type and Mayans is way stronger than Portuguese.
As I said in my post,I would give their pikes/skirms +1 range or +10% hp
Portuguese halbs with +1 range. That would be unique. How strong would that be, thought? Propably only really good in late game trash war state.
At this point any buff is fine for me.
But did ports have anything special going for pikes? Sounds more like something hypothetical swis (teutons in their place) or Spanish pike and shot could get.
+1 for halbs is so OP, but +1 adition of range for skirmishers in castle age is cool but the same problem, Portuguese need some. Buff in feudal age, 5% fast skirmishers since feudal age is good I guess
They could lose halbs in exchange. Pike +1 rqnge but without squires
Halberds were the main weapon of Naval Infantry for the kingdom, because Pikes were hard to carry and wield inside ships (boarding action), while the much shorter Halberds still allowed for Spear Wall tactics, aswell as doubling as a Boarding Axe, to cut rope or hook the enemy ship closer.
Pikes were mostly used by guarding troops stationed at Feitorias and the mainland, since they were easy to handle for troops that were already land-based, instead of disembarking ones.
Because of the proximity of Spain, which was known for vast Cavalry armies, Portuguese Pikemen were the most common type of Heavy Infantry in the continental front, during the Middle Ages.
They were a main component of an Ordenança (military command), since they frontlined for the Ranged troops (tiradores) that actually dealt most of the damage.
Knew I could count on you. Thanks for the history lesson!
Interesting. I still don’t get it why Portos don’t have Squires.
Because they would be too efficient at protecting Organ Guns, and Organ Guns used to be busted.
Squires would not even help Ports anyway, since the game shifted to an Archer Meat, and both Archers and their best counter (Mangonels) destroy OGs.
Yes, but Siege Onagers are much better than Organs and Celts, Teutons, Slavs, etc… have squires.
Not really, You can evade SO shots much easier than OGs.
Also, not having Squires is part of the civ identity now, slow on Land, fast on Water.
Kamayuk says hello
And palizade walls are free for purtuguese is OP? For me is interesting idea
