Of course it doesn’t HAVE to stay profitable but will we keep getting cool upgrades like the Castle architecture, monk reskins, balance changes if the devs aren’t making money from the game? I find it doubtful. Now, this comes down to personal preference as well, do you care about these changes? If you don’t and just want the game to remain as is with no more updates, then that’s different and it comes down largely to opinion to which we could talk all day about.
It’s like a musician who loves to play at concerts. While he loves playing, that doesn’t mean he’s going to play for nothing. He will just play his concert somewhere else more profitable. That is, he will do what he loves but also make money. Similarly, if the Devs don’t get paid to do what they love in aoe2, they will move on to another game which lets them do what they love while getting money. We have already seen this with AoE3.
castle architecture - yeah, those were kinda cool
monk reskins - i don’t like them. confuses me what those units are every time i see one
balance changes - they have fucked up so much with them recently
and all of this at the cost of beloved civs getting ruined with gimmicky bullshit. I’d prefer it if the devs had done literally nothing since 2020. they have actively made the game worse overall, and don’t even have the decency to let us opt out of these changes.
utterly despicable behaviour by a developer/publisher.
Well, for players like you who just want to play Vanilla aoe2 de(which I respect), I have always said and will continue to say, there needs to be a way to play with AoE2 DE at release, save maybe bug fixes. While I enjoy many of the new things, there should be a way to choose not to play with them as not everyone does. Thus, it seems we disagree on adding new things, but we agree that there should be a way to play without them if one so chooses.
There might have just been a clue in the patch notes.
The Garnison Flags are linked to the architecture. But in the patch notes, there is one more. It’s the second from the left in the top row, that is not in the game. And it is a Viking flag.
I’ve not got through all the campaigns yet so correct me if I’m wrong, maybe instead of adding civs they should ensure that each civ in the game now has its own campaign.
Or what about playing the campaign battles in reverse? So you fight against for example Joan of arc instead of being her ally? That would be different and they could make tons off that
Yes, basically Mayans, Vikings (these are half covered by VaV), Romans, Magyars, Slavs, Turks (these 3 are half covered by Dracula, but I feel it will last a long time) and the East Asian civilizations (Chinese, Koreans, Japanese, Jurchens and Khitans)…
It wouldn’t be the imperial eagle (just like with the Germans and the HRE in the sequels)?…
Not going to anticipate another dlc anymore as before. They gave good screenshots of Khitans and Jurchens and turned out to be 3K. I will not be surprised if they release another trash-alike dlc.
Since all the indian civis have the same flags now I hope they give correct kings UIs sails trade carts to them. The minimum they can do is use current assets like the puru ui for ui ox cart for trade cart.
My theory is that they are working on regional ship models so they didn’t want to give them regional sails now because they would be replaced in a few months already.
