I suspect he thought there is a cultural continuity between the medieval Ghana in the Sahel and the modern Ghana in the rainforest.
Iād also like to know. Iām reading a book called āAfrican Arms and Armorā by Christopher Spring, and I think FE might have used it as a source for Gbeto. Thereās this part here about the Amazons of Dahomey:
And Google translates āhuntressā into the Fon language (of Dahomey) as āgbĆ©nyatÉĢā.
But considering that Sandy attributes female warriors to Ghana, thereās probably another reason Iām unaware of.
Well, despite the iconic shield-bearing elite of the Kongo and the armored infantry of Benin, these civs could have an archer and crossbowman UUās, respectively (Benin adopted crossbows through the Portuguese).
Although few African kingdoms (Kush, Aksum, and Berber sultanates) projected their power outside the continent, Africans were far more present and influential in the wider world than we imagine ā in fact, the world was more connected than we think. The Zanj Revolt that nearly brought down the Abbasid Caliphate, the more than 3,000 black foot soldiers who were a major problem for the Crusaders, Ayyubids and Mamluks because of their loyalty to the Fatimids, the Black Guard of the Berbers in Al-Andalus, and the Siddis (Ethiopians and Somalis) in India with Malik Ambar even reigning there are all good examples. You can also see more obscure examples like Yasuke serving Nobunaga in Japan and Juan Garrido accompanying CortĆ©s in Mexico.
I even posted this episode about Kongo on r/historymemes that I recently discovered. Iād like to see it in the game, but sadly itās too late (1620s) and AoE3 is in a coma.
I know I did. Much of my Ghanaian civ elements were centered around that perceived continuity.
I saw that there are still 2 new unknown apps on steamdb
@conqueror060 Thatās right, it looks like itās been a while.
My prediction is, regional skins for barracks and archery range units, same as the monks and castles, perhaps on a smaller scale at first, American civās first (lack stables), then Africans (because europe is already almost on point) and then asians
It will not be toggleable, such as the monks and castles was not
Exactly and Last Chieftains finally isnāt one of them, it has a different number on its own
Modders: āFine, Iāll do it myself.ā
With over 50 Civs now and nearly all the major historical civilizations covered, Iām hoping for the Civ DLCs to stop or at least slow down. Like, give us 3 years of no new civs to adapt to the 3+ past years of 1 or 2 DLCs per year. Some campaign DLCs or expanding the chronicles would be nice. If they really need money, put a 1, 2, or 3 dollar a month price tag on playing online, with the 20k monthly players we have, thats enough to keep the game running. Much better than over expanding the game until we get an over complicate civ roster which dissuades new players. Idk about all of you, but I would gladly pay 2 or 3 bucks a month for online games.
I have to be honest with you. That sounds horrible and would kill the game.
Paying for online playing would push people quicker away then the kingdoms.
There is still a lot to add and give is what sells most. And the devs seem to be on a good way now.
Chronicles should continue as well. It is a innovation workshop that benefits the game as a whole and has a lot potential to add interesting stories and civs.
Already a DLC after the Chronicles one of this year?
Most likely an African or wider North American DLC. Both of which are very much welcome.
My dream is a rework of the 3K DLC to replace the Wu, Wei and Shu with medieval civs, and a Balkan DLC with Wallachians, Serbs, Croats and Aragonese.
God, I hope it happensā¦
Hmm, I donāt think the Aragonese would fit with the theme for the Balkans⦠Iād rather finally right the wrongs of Vlad Draculaās campaign and add the Vlachs along with renaming and reworking the Slavs to the Rus.
Ironically, the Aragonese had the Duchy of Athens and Neopatra in Greece for most of the 14th century.
Itās a nice way to sneak them in a Balkan DLC! ![]()
Hard to blame you when devs themselves mixed two Weis together! (Albeit, admittedly, at least Cao Wei and Tuoba Wei shared being in roughly the same territory and having a majority Han population, canāt say that about the two Ghanas)
couldnāt agree more. especially since they said that no more civs would be added after the release of DE.
I donāt think this is necessary. Iād rather return to p2p gaming or community hosted servers than pay a subscription. In the end servers for this game should be fairly cheap to maintain. Only a small percentage of the playerbase actually plays multiplayer, so the cost of servers should easily be covered by new purchases of the base game.
Basically, Ethiopia would have the Abun from their AoE 3 version⦠Ghana is the Mali we have now with the Gbeto⦠and Kongoās UU are perhaps like the Karambit of the Malaysā¦
For AoE 3 I would see it as possibleā¦for AoE 2 it would have to be Polynesians and Algonquiansā¦
I even posted this episode about Kongo on r/historymemes that I recently discovered. Iād like to see it in the game, but sadly itās too late (1620s) and AoE3 is in a coma.
Yes, and itās a real bummer, because Kongo fought hard against the Portuguese in the 1620s and was a good option if they didnāt want to include Moroccans in The African Royals⦠so in the TAR DLC you had Hausa, Ethiopians, and Kongoleseā¦and in KotM Italians, Maltese and Greeksā¦
My opinionās more of just one solution to keep the game profitable. I will not deny there are probably better ones like aesthetic DLCs, Campaign DLCs, etc. At the end of the day, when the game stops making money, we wonāt get good updates like we did last year, e.g, the āall civs get their own castleā update. I kind of just threw that idea as a place holder for one possible way to make the game profitable without adding civs; granted itās not the best solution I agree.
My opinionās more of just one solution to keep the game profitable
does it have to keep churning out profits? is it no ok to say āwe have made a gajillion dollars with this game, itās ok to move on to other projectsā? is profit really more important than artistic vision/gameplay integrity etc?
I am willing to bet a lot that current sales are still easily covering server costs (unless they are absolutely dogshit at optimization)
When there is money to be made they will keep putting stuff out, I donāt mind more civs as long as we get campaigns as I donāt play multiplayer
i just wish these changes werenāt forced upon me. they have taken so many well designed civs from me: chinese, vietnamese, koreans, japanese, celts, vikings, and now Inca.
and now this stupid fucking water rework
I only want two things: an easy option to revert to older versions and a functional lobby browser where i can find fair matches on my preferred settings.
