Not sure what you’re trying to defend here. Hotkeys and camera control is important to the genre. So is Age of Empires to them is a technical stress test for their next game?
Happens same as me, maybe ill try to find CD.
me neither, I just dont want to put down their hype it hurst me inside
But to sum up…it wont happen, they wont add anything, they are not even interested. But you will see they will do a big announcement of an useless feature that they will pick and say ´´we listened to community´´ and added this spicific feature…
But they have not a real open communication, nor updates or next additions, they are like the emojis
They really need to let us zoom out a bit further. It’s such a wasted opportunity; they’ve got these cinematic battles going on, but we can’t actually see them!
Also, it’s bizarre that you can’t pause multiplayer games. I shouldn’t have to explain why this is 100.0% necessary for an RTS game.
Would also like to add that there is almost no visual effects to distinguish civilisations, they went for ‘generic’ civs with a base model : Of all the cons that the game has, which one bothers you the most? - #153 by Khansa5234
Yeah i agree. Look at relics’ other game, company of heros 2, it is super zoomed in for 8 years and is still like that.
- Why are the objectives always in the top left?
- Why can’t villagers capture sheep?
For me the most important qol that requires change right now is the ability to set way points/route for merchant units… If you play water map they decide to go shoreline and get snipes by ships, super annoying…
To add to the list: Merge production for landmarks and unit production facilities that produce the same unit when you’re tabbing through. As the French for example, if I have a stable and a landmark, I would like to see them grouped together so when I make the units, they produce from all stables + landmark.
Also, have a standard order for where buildings appear when you control group them. For example, if I control group an archery range, stable, ranged landmark, and then rax, it will appear in the order I selected them. What would be a solid QoL would be to have those appear in a standard order every time, so the barracks would always be first, then the archery range (with associated landmark if available), then stable, then siege etc. That way you don’t have to guess or make assumptions on what production you’re tabbing through and you’ll always know without having to look!
I find it rather funny that most players do obviously spot these missing QOL features instantly and are able to create these huge lists but the devs were not able to think of these things beforehand. Did their internal playtesting team not spot them?
Most of the points mentioned there were already brought up since the closed beta, see for yourself:
MegaThread: Roadmap & Things that should be implemented
I agree with everything you said. Maybe I would place water buffalos and cows in nice to have, instead of in must haves
I would add some must haves:
- Market prices visible on sell/buy buttons.
- Shift click on unit production to create 5 units. Same mechanic in market buy/sell (its annoying to sell 5k food by clicking 50 times.
- Command pannel without units beeing grouped by types. I want to see 20 archers with hitpoint bar for each of them to micro them. Maybe make this optional because for casual players its better to have this on current state.
- They should just add patrol for units. This game has so many automatization (from aoe2 player perspective) so why no patrol?
The thing i miss a lot - split “attack move” command to two commands:
- “Attack move” - units move and attack enemy UNITS
- “Storm move” (or something like that) - units move and attack enemy UNITS OR BUILDINGS (like it work now).
In current version very often my archers stops to shot some house when melee army proceeds to enemy units inside the city and dies without archer support.
I strongly believe the devs are well aware of all the features that are missing. I think they needed like an additional year of development, but Microsoft would not let them delay the game because of its Gamepass release schedule, so they spent the last half a year or even more just polishing what they had, not adding any features at all.
I also believe the features will start being added now that the game is out, because Microsoft will want to keep growing the franchise and back further development. So my hopes for the future are quite high tbh.
Because it was an intentional design decision, as evidenced by Scout gameplay (and Gaia upgrade)?
Don’t get me wrong, nothing wrong with a list of QOL things you want. But this isn’t a bug, and it isn’t QOL either.
This is a fair point.
I wasnt defending anything. Just said Relic is not famous for allowing players to zoom out or customize hotkeys. I dont like it.
This is precisely what I find particularly concerning. If you were a product manager or engineer who cared about RTS at all, how could you let many of these slip? Some of these are probably less than 3 hours of work.
Honestly they have to fix the achievements first more than anything. Having your achievement blocked when you load a save file is hella annoying. Achievements also don’t synch with steam correctly. It ruined the experience for me.
- When garrisoned units are on a control group, right clicking with those units will ungarrison them.
Would like this back:
- Treaty time option for games
- Auto-save for local AI skirmish games (unsure if it should be doing this already but it’s definitely not for me)
- Remember last game settings (for when you need to exit/restart game with slightly different settings)
- One more larger map size
- Increased zoom out - still too close in my opinion
I don’t know if it qualifies as a QOL but I’m not going to stop asking for increased population limit (at least up to 400) for non-ranked games, and to stop counting siege as 3 towards pop cap. At least compromise by lowering to 2 or something. These two things are my biggest hangups with the game that will definitely limit how much time I spend playing it vs AOE2 DE. I’m also with others on the graphics, but it’s not exactly a deal breaker and I feel like there is a fair chance it gets some revision later on anyway.
