Red Bull Wololo 2026 - Londinium - Starts tomorrow

Seems like no recent posts/topics here about the AoE2 tournament starting tomorrow, which is a little surprising, so thought I’d post here

I don’t know how/where to watch the official streams, but I assume maybe on Twitch? T90Official channel(?) or maybe a Red Bull Twitch channel? If someone knows, feel free to mention

Guess that’s my job then, heh.

It’ll be streamed on Red Bull’s official Twitch:

And YouTube:

Awesome! Thank you. Look forward to watching. There is some really great AoE talent out there!

I’m just sad all the matches at the event are “Empire Wars” :frowning:

I feel like the matches are less fun to watch, and a lot of skill and strategy goes down the drain in favor of immedate and constant big action

Empire wars is way more exiting than regular games. No way I wacth 5-10 minutes of nothing much happening every game live without a skip ahead.

I am very happy about the mode and have been since the first wololo.

Only thing I don’t like is the score timer, but I understand why it’s there to keep schedule manageable

All other tournaments are rm mode, let empire war and desth match fans have their tournament.

Red Bull Wololo is always played in the Empire Wars mode. At least when talking about AOE2.

Different strokes for different folks and all that. I also don’t like Call of Duty, so there’s that

Good for them. AoE2 always had huntables yield no food if killed by TC until it didn’t

I mean.. where have you been since April 2020? :stuck_out_tongue:

I watched lots of TTL5 and it wasn’t Empire Wars (thankfully). I watched a bit of Red Bull 2025 and knew something was amiss, but didn’t pay too much attention and/or just went with the flow since it was my first Red Bull viewing and thought it was cool for it to be at a castle. I didn’t know the whole tournament was Empire Wars(?)

I vaguely recall Hera in some match I saw (thought it was Red Bull @ Castle 2025?) almost lose his King or Queen, but saved or snuck it away at last second – the crowd cheered/roared. Was it not Regicide? Not that that would be too much better than Empire Wars but maybe not bad, imo, but just wondering. You must watch a lot of these, does that ring a bell?

I didn’t watch or care too much about AoE2 eSports prior to about TTL4, to be honest. I think I saw a few TTL4 matches.

So, no, I’m not familiar with Empire Wars (except for this year) at AoE tournaments including Red Bull. I get it from a time management standpoint, though. Can get through more matches, faster – which is important, especially for such a tournament. But part of me wonders, could they instead do 3 match sets early on with non-Empire Wars, with 5 match sets later … and have the match time limit kick in still if they drag on too long?

After watching TTL5 and how much strategy, imo, is lost by skipping Dark Age and starting everyone with a bustling economy in Red Bull, I just think it’s too bad. Do the competitors love it, though? I think the events are or should be more for the players than the fans, because they need to have fun playing and competing. If they prefer Empire Wars, more power to them! I wouldn’t want to take that away

I don’t personally watch or play AoE for constant frag-fests 24x7. It’s just not my thing, but am happy for you (and the tournament competitors) if you love it :tada:

Ok, since you honestly dont know, here are some things

Red Bull Wololo is always Empire Wars (in AOE2) because they wanted something different from other tournaments, so Nili, IIRC, who was tournament manager for World’s Edge suggested it to be a competitive version of Empire Wars (the original game mode was a bit different, was late feudal instead of early feudal).

Memb’s King of the Desert is a 1v1 Arabia only tournament. It happens once a year. Memb’s Battle of Africa is Team Game tournament and was on a hiatus for some time. Memb’s Warlords, another 1v1 tournament, introduced 3 years ago the “9 villagers start”. IIRC, you start with 9 villagers and 3 minutes worth of resources (food and wood). Nowadays some tournaments have this 9-villagers start, like the upcoming lan tournament named Brazilian Dynasty, starting July.

T90’s Hidden Cup is 1v1 tournament, no one knows who is playing against who until the finals. After that, everyone is revealed. Since you already know TTL, I’ll skip it.

There is community funded Deathmatch cups and tournaments. Tarnished Deathmatch is 1v1 and seasonal, having a team game tournament in between seasons. Right now it will be Deathmatch Nations Cup. It is starting in two weeks.

There are still many more, like Bombard Cannon Dodge Ball, Sudden Death, Arena-only etc.

That’s awesome info, thank you! I didn’t know any of that. Hidden Cup sounds like a cool concept!

For “The Garrison” … is that Regicide, by any chance? Liquipedia doesn’t say. Still trying to figure out what match I saw where I seem to remember King or Queen hiding. The name might be an indicator as such

No, it’s just a name. In the right side there aer info about the tournament and one of them is the “chronology”. So if it is a series, you can see the previous version.

You can check how were the settings and games from The Garrison 1, even watch the games if recorded

Those bars are the statistics between two players, how they perfomed against each other, the square shows the map draft and the shield is civ draft.

Perhaps the game you saw was a special map that is played on Regicide, like this one from the last The Garison

If a map is played in a special setting, like Regicide, it will be said between round brackets, as seem above.

Ahhh, nice! With that info, you’re right, it was the Garrison finals that had the Regicide I saw. I forgot I watched some of that event! As soon as I saw the logo, I remembered

This is the cool moment, actually. Mr. Yo decided to move their king as Hera’s units randomly came swooping in

I was super excited to watch all the matches after the final, but then gave up after the news.

Which news? (20 characters)

I’ve read that the same guy won again. So, nothing exciting for me to watch.

LOL, yes he did.

He deserved it, to be honest. It was a great series. I’d recommend watching the whole thing, but for me, the 7th match was incredible—it really came down to micro vs. macro play.

It was still nice to watch, and maybe not as easy as you think. It’s funny how someone being really good at something turns people against them. I wonder what the psychology of that is

Regardless, if we just talk of Red Bull Wololo, his competitor in the Grand Finals had actually had won more of them until yesterday. Now they are even at 2 wins each

The issue isn’t how well he plays. Like, I wouldn’t want mbl to win either.

You said it’s because the same guy won again. Implies he is really good. So if he wasn’t as good, he wouldn’t win as much and you’d be happier and would watch

May be just semantics. They seem intertwined to me

I think tthere are lower level elo tournaments without Mbl or the Wololo winner you would like better than top tier elo
