Wúyuè is also a name for a mínxì (ethnic subgroup), which makes it somewhat suitable for the concept of an “AoE civ”. Btw, here is a technically “Wúyuè guy”'s own point of view: Which one, Yuè or Wú, can better represent Sūzhōu? -zhihu. He said “‘Wú’ represents the registered citizens who accepted the rule of the empire, and ‘Yuè’ represents those who were not registered.”

Not exactly. Historically speaking, Yuè粤 originally referred to the Bǎiyuè (a highly non-Sinicized group) before Sòng, then referred to the people of Lǐngnán (Eastern and Western Yuè粤 are equivalent to modern Guǎngdōng and Guǎngxī), and then somehow in the Míng Dynasty and later tended to refer specifically to only the people of Guǎngdōng, and then in the late Qīng Dynasty it tended to refer to the people of the Pearl River Delta (which is very different from the original group that has been referred to).
Cantonese comes from Canton, which comes from the Portuguese word Cidade de Cantão, which means Guǎngzhōu, so Cantonese refers to people of Guǎngzhōu or around Guǎngzhōu (a.k.a the Pearl River Delta). In Chinese, it is “廣府人”.
The totem of Wúyuè would be a four-eyed three-legged bird (Luópíng bird)
