Yak
It will be useful if there will be a dlc about Asia. There this animal is more common than cows, especially in mountainous areas.
HUNTABLE:
Nilgai
Also for Asia content.
(for those who don’t know what kind of beast this is, it’s a small bovidae, a cow who wanted to become a deer)
Gemsbok
If there will be dlc about Africa. Replacement for deer.
Hippo
Africa. Lives on river shores. Strikes you back.
Tapir
American replacement for boar with keeping its characteristics. There were no boars in America until Europeans brought them.
SPECIAL:
Seal
For content about the North.
It could have a unique mechanic: we meet him on the shore, but if we don’t kill him quickly, he dives into water. After some time, he appears several cells away from the place as a fishing unit where he can still be obtained.
Great auk
Flightless bird. Now extinct, it was completely exterminated in the 19th century. But during AoE it was alive and valued as food. Similar to a penguin and an albatross.
I could name some more extinct animals: sea cow, dodo, moa. They lived at this time. But in regions where AoE events are unlikely to ever occur.
I want to emphasize that there is a lot that you can do without on this list, but tapir and hippo are a must. Content about America and Africa without them is ridiculous.
To have giraffes and whales would be really cool too. The latter already appeared in Age of Empires 1 but somehow are missing in both AOE2DE and Return of Rome. To bring the North African elephant as well as the alligator would be dope, with their sprites from the beautifully looking Age of Empires Definitive Edition:
They added more animal assets in Age of Mythology/AOE3DE. It would be great if the animals from AOM - hippos, variant crocodiles, giraffes, seals, polar bears, tapirs and hyenas were added to AOE2DE. The assets are already made.
Oh! Those models actually look pretty good! Giraffes are a must IMO also, since they are big, they could provide a respectable amount of food when hunted down. Plus, they are known to be very aggressive, so it would be an interesting addition to the wild animals in AOE2DE and Return of Rome.
There is one terrible awful fact about giraffes. For censorship reasons, I can’t write it here, but if you’re interested, you can google “90% of giraffes are”
Do we have a doghunter club here? In AoE all animals can be used only as food, so what actually you suggest? Oh ya ya, Koreans could do that! But I don’t think devs will…
I just hope that the studio can make animals such as cows, sheep and geese wild, instead of setting them as domestic animals from the beginning. It is better to divide it into two parts, like the difference between wild boars and domestic pigs. 0U0
