Non-Mediterranean Europe, South Asia, Central Asia and several other areas totally lack civs when they should be included and did interact with the current ones. I know some people are apprehensive of adding American civs, but there is a long queue before we get to them.
Plus more campaigns in the AoE2 style. Sargon & Pyrrhus will be interesting being the first AoE1 civs in an AoE2-style campaign with multiple triggers and dialogue. And I eagerly look forward to more; Ramesses II, Zenobia, Nebuchadnezzar, Ashurbanipal…plenty to pick from with just the current civs.
Yes! Filled with plenty of larger-than-life characters. Hopefully once the Mauryans & Harrapans are added we will get an Alexander the Great campaign too.
Nubians! If we want more use of the Egyptian architecture, they are right there!
excellent post. Couldn’t agree more. Ages classifications are very useful for history and studying things, but that doesn’t say much. Where I am from for instance, we started as celts, then romans conquered the region, but until the 1950s the life style was mostly medieval/antiquity like.
People here used water mills made of stone to make bread, they didn’t use weapons -or they were very rudimentary- to hunt, every house had cattle, etc etc. If we had a local war here we would defend like dark age militia.
People here weren’t backwards, it’s just that they could live that way pretty well, they had some pretty ingenious solutions, and of course some difficulties 'cos of the harsh climate. In fact capitalism is more of a problem than a solution to a few aspects of life.
Not sure they would do a second Macedonian campaign (first one being Pyrrhus) unless all civs already got a campaign or the Macedonians have been split (which would be a weird choice for a game that is not specifically focused on the Hellenistic period, I think…)
Numides and Aksumites too, but yeah, Nubians especially would be great!
yup, we could even argue Romans never fell, as their inventions did pass the test of time. They introduced the chestnut tree where I live, for instance, which changed the economy and some traditions started from there.
Scientists are studying Roman concrete, 'cos it could regenerate, a feat never achieved by humans after the Romans.
Having aoe2 Romans as the only civ available in single player only is kinda head scratching. It seems like they were not quite convinced of it themselves…
Honestly while Im one of the persons strongly oposed to Romans adding them without them being avaible at ranked seems kinda silly. You are using bonuses amd a civ slot on a civ q lot of players will never be able to use?
Although they may just be experimenting a bit to try to keep thw ammount of competitive civs easier to handle for the players and easier to balance by the devs
Maybe the Roman tech tree is a mix of AoE1 and AoE2 which make it too different from other civs? But if it’s the case, it was a poor idea because it sacrifices a civ’s multiplayer potential in favor of a weird gimmick.
And I say this as a mostly single player user with absolutely no interest in ranked.
Yeah, no gunpowder is expected, but no treb in addition to that would make quite the terrible civ. Even in single player, it would probably be one of the worst civ if you don’t end your enemies in an early rush…
Sargon of Akkad (the first emperor in the mankind history), Pyrrhus of Epirus (the first great rival to the Roman expansion) and Trajan (the emperor who transform Rome in the “world capital”)…
D3 is a game mode in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - Return of Rome that reduces rush tactics and allows players to start their early game more robustly, only allowing fighting with a single unit until entering the Bronze Age, ensuring players reach later Ages for equal battles. This rule set also bans walls and towers, making for exciting match ups later in the game.
It is a ruleset popularly used in Vietnam for the first Age of Empires, where it is called D3 or D3KT (Đời 3 Không Thành - 3rd Age and No Tower/Wall).
Maybe it’s similar to the Byzantines, but more focused on infantry…
True, the Hausa are more from the southeast (they are from Nigeria)…
Difficult but not impossible…
Romans spoke Latin (as Italians and Byzantines in AoE 2), Carthage Berber (as in AoE 2) or Ancient Greek (as in AoM), Greek Civs Greek (as in AoM), Egyptian Egyptian (as in AoM), Persians Persian (as in AoE 2) Shang (Old Chinese), Yamato (Old Japanese), Lac Viet (Old Vietnamese) and Middle Eastern civs spoke Aramaic, from which Arabic is descended (i.e. they would speak more or less like the Saracens of AoE 2)…
Sure, that’s valid…
Yeah, but the centurions use it on their shield so it’s okay…
That’s true…
Let’s hope…
The devs put the Hausa for the Sokoto Caliphate (1810-1903) (the civ flag is that of the caliphate)…Songhai was conquered by Morocco in 1591, that’s why it’s hard that they were in AoE 3, besides who are from further north-west of Nigeria, from where the Hausa settled…
Like the ones in AoE 2…
There is no crossplay, the civ the Saracens fight with are the Romans from AoE 2…
That’s right…
I agree, with the next RoR dlcs they can add new civs and architectures (cof cof Central and Northern Europe and also India and maybe America)…
Yes, I agree, King Solomon, Leonidas, Alexander the Great, Chandragupta Maurya, Seleucus Nicator, Viriatus, Gaius Marius, Vercingetorix, Arminius, Boadicea, Cao Cao, Diocletian, Constantine, Ezana of Aksum, Mundzuk and Rugila…and obviously Historical Battles to fill in the middle the chronological gaps between the campaigns…
Difficult with Carthage and Egypt in the game, but Tartessos, Mauritania and Numidia can be good options…in Mesoamerica, the Olmecs and Mayans and in South America, Chavin and Nazca…
Also and Kushites…
Don’t worry, the Romans are available in multiplayer, but not ranked…
Or only with the AoE 2 tech tree like Byzantines or Italians, but without many technologies like gunpowder and without the latest cavalry upgrades…
That is very very important…something that will change AoE 1 forever…
Spirit of the Law, in his latest video (which one of my comments on this forum makes an appearance in, yay), believed that the Romans aren’t actually playable and that the Legionaries fighting the Saracens was just footage for the trailer. However, he made the video before the DLC description went live, and it clearly contradicts his theory.
