RIP AOE3

Still surprising how many people I’ve seen here that still defending worlds edge. Saying things like “you can’t say they are a garbage company. Your whining.”

I think everyone is just annoyed because they lied saying they were making a DLC, and have consistently kicked AoE 3 to the curb excluding it from events and marketing stuff. And it has a lot of good content especially if you like fiddling around in single player. Just wasted potential. And lets be honest it gives people something to be outraged about that is pretty trivial in reality.

The guy sounds like the sort of person who would tell you its your fault you ordered food and 2 hours later after them promising its almost ready they say sorry kitchens was closing we arent servering your food.

Again for the mostly aoe4 fans comming by to mock and start shit, age3 fans are less mad its over and are mad on being strung along for 2 years with lies, broken promises of basic communication, and inability to report and fix basic functionalities for years. The DLC being cancelled in and of itself is not the major issue. If you are unaware of our communities history why don’t you spend 5 minutes asking before telling people about stuff you have 0 idea of?

Except this is not food and they under no obligation to please your desires.

Some functionalities have issues for all DE titles, they are behind old engines that can’t cope, they still work better than most new RTS games out there.

Your community’s history, oh boy… I remember way before DE when I wanted to try AoE3 and was met with complete childish, entitled and toxic behaviour in those eso forums. That was a wild place. Not as bad as SC2, but still shameful. I always wondered why is it that AoE3 has such a toxic community, full of flamers and trolls, why cant we have a nice one like in AoE2. Now i know that it’s just about different generations of gamers. Anyway, gave up on AoE3 but came back to it with the DE version, since DE fixed one of its biggest flaws, and although game still remains deeply flawed at its core I wanted to try enjoy it regardless since it’s an Age game after all. But then I was met with the same toxic environment as before, nobody grew up.

And someone mentioned pro scene ignored in AoE3. What pro scene? No 1 player is a cheater, everybody is flaming each other. You cant have that, sponsors wont like it. There is no pro scene there. You might have better luck with AoE1.

Toxicity? You are the one coming onto another game’s forum simply to trash that game during one of the darkest hours. The only persistent toxicity I have seen in on this forum/discord/reddit is from AOE4 bootlickers like yourself.

Crawl back into whatever troll cave you emerged from and let AOE3 mourn in peace.

Do you have a single understanding of:

spring patch delayed without word till july then told “le steam queue”
3x community manager promised better communication before disapearing.
many bugs reported not known to devs until we contacted the dev directly. Despite being on forums. If vivid hadnt liked aoe3 god knows TP lines would be honeytraps for ever.
told once AoMR production winds down our devs would be reassigned to our dlc then 0 more news
several more patches delayed without news till days after.
QoL promised and what we got was…fishing ships for 1 architecture set added vills.
promised better esport recognition 1 event on calendar then never again
added esports logo of aoe2 to our game intro
never fixed treaty lobby bug destroying treaty growth. Promised to "look into
then said not only dlc cancelled but they will not fix a simple bug even again.

Im sorry your noob butt wandered out of a noob only lobby 20 years ago and got called out on or w/e and you hold a grudge but grow up and look around. The only fool atm is you speaking to things you have no understanding of.

From my experience playing both games online and being on these forums I found the AoE 2 only players to be more rude, toxic, quit matches for no reason and talk down to people more. And that is recent not 15-20 years ago.
I think each game has welcoming and relaxed players and each has toxic players.

Hmm, checking forums like eso and aoezone is night and day.
When old AoE2 was abandoned, people didnt start with threats and boycotts, they just built their own platform and mods and game continued to thrive.

They didn’t get strung along for a year and then all support yanked out from under them overnight. I’m beginning to believe your refusal to understand this is intentional.

I’m not on the ESO forums, isn’t aoezone gone?
ESO forum look calmer then here TBH

Ok fair enough but back then games weren’t downloaded and getting content and updates regularly you bought the game then an expansion that was it so expectations were different.
And people do get melodramatic over video games just look at the Call of Duty franchise.

Je commence à me demander si vous ne jetez pas par hasard intentionnellement de l’huile sur le feu pour admirer les gens qui pètent un câble, votre comportement est toxique aussi

Shit I forgot the real kickers
-claimed several age4 mechanics like using torches vs houses were unique to that game

  • the last time we had a community event the presenter had not actually played a single game of aoe3

I don’t believe one can be so ignorant to ignore all of these at the same time as a coincidence. One or two I can accept. All of them is insane.

  1. 20th anniversary
  2. Steam RTS festival
  3. Lunar New Year
  4. RIGHT BEFORE the news of other DLCs
  5. RIGHT AFTER Tilanus gave some updates after a year of silence.

1-3 means more active potential players that are watching. Most other companies could do some teeny weeny efforts to attract them, or do nothing if they really have nothing. Choosing to toss out a major bad news right at the time would only leave a bad impression about the game.

And very insincere writing. I’ve seen many end-of-support letters. Those have decency. None of them is like “sorry that we lied to you about a DLC and never intended to work on it. Hurr durr”

I can understand this is after all a business decision, but the whoever caused this absolute s**tshow at a very well-coordinated timing MUST be fired. Like they could simply ignore the game, leave a decent message, and let it naturally decline with an okay reputation if they don’t want to work on it. But they chose to stir this entire drama, starting from the false DLC announcement, in front of everyone when the crowd is gathering to shock whoever involved and make the game (once more) a stain on the franchise history, at the best time possible.

In short: I think management just wants to cut corners (thanks to their stupidity and incompetence, btw) in a professional way instead of causing this drama and making one of their products a joke. However, those who execute it may have more on their mind. Their actions are not the result of incompetence, but a malicious intention to sabotage the game. Those who wrote those 1001 “sorries” in the letter must be rolling on the floor laughing.

All of which can be adequately explained by stupidity
-20th Anniversary: I doubt this was even on their radar. Recent anniversary celebrations for other games (like 25th for AOE2) were pitiful. Verdict: stupidity
-Microsoft/WE has no involvement in Steam sales. WE, if unobservant, wasn’t watching sales numbers from the marketplace. Verdict: likely stupidity
-Lunar New Year: they did make an announcement for Immortal Pillars. Just not the level anyone was expecting. And an announcement for AOE3 on Lunar New Year when they have a newer game with a greater connection to the holiday wouldn’t make sense. Verdict: not actually a misstep (as far as AOE3 is considered)
-Other DLC: Immortal Pillars needed to be discussed on Lunar new year. AOE2’s dev work is handled by a different group at FE. When this decision was made they either did so with no regards to the other announcements or under the false impression that we would forget quickly and be distracted by the new announcements. Verdict: stupidly
-Earlier Discussion: Tilanus is not WE. He is in FE. Completely different organizations. And this was a month ago. Likely when that happened, WE was still planning on supporting AOE3 and then something changed in the new Calendar year. And instead of thinking about how it would look, they just announced it. Verdict: incredible stupidity

There was no action taken that required any sort of intelligence or planning or ill-intent to pull off. If Tilanus had discussed the DLC a week ago, or if the AOE2 DLC were announced to be an early modern or Napoleonic era chronicles, then there would definitely be an odor of maliciousness. But as things stand, it was just incredibly stupid.

Let me be clear: I’m not suggesting Tilanus or anyone at FE developing AOM DLCs have malicious intentions. I mean whoever decided to make the fake DLC promise and announce the cancellation this time this way.

They should have known they cannot deliver at the time of the delay in October. They could just cancel it THEN and still do last week’s AOM DLC news as planned. Then Tilanus does not have to do that discussion in December which hyped up everyone either. They could avoid all the “coincidences” that make the game look worse and make us idiots. But they hit all of them. That’s what I mean by malice.

I actually feel bad for Tilanus. The guy has such a great energy and passion for AoE3 but now will have to be redirected it to other games in the franchise that he doesn’t have as much of an emotional connection to. It’s kind of sad.

Wow players of the “true AOE games” still distorting the whole thing to “AOE3 players angry just because their dlc is cancelled”.

Their horrible management and arrogance will eventually affect you. If they can lie in front of the public about the “unpopular game” they will do the same for your “true game”. WE will sink the franchise not some random poster. Wait for your turn to come. I’ll be celebrating.
