Rise of the Roman Republic the next chronicles?

Like if we are very conservative, we are almost assured to have a Second Punic War campaign qith both perspectives and then a quite long Caesar campaign, and thats if we dont get a war with the Etruscans, Macedonians or Parthians, and we dont get a port of the Trajan campaign or a Thir Century Crisis DLC

No, Romans can have their own campaigns unrelated to Pyrrhus. No need to force Romans into everything by having their side like R:TW when there’s enough good content that isn’t Roman-centric.

If there’s something more interesting is having Enemies of Rome with more representation.

If you only have one campaign for the Romans, let it be their biggest wars (plural), being the Punic Wars. Maximum stakes (no longer the petty raidings against Etruscans Samnites and others) as it was a conflict that could have knocked Rome out for good, and maybe the last time they met their match for 4 centuries, while in comparison if Caesar failed in Gaul, he’d have retreated to Italy in disgrace with the Alps as a rock-solid border for the Res Publica.

And the Punic Wars make one complete story by itself : first both sides ally themselves against Pyrrhus to drive him out of Magna Graecia, then the first conflict over Sicily, the Barcids plot their revenge by extending into Iberia while the Romans grab Sardinia and Corsica, the second war playing both sides, you could then have Hannibal trying his luck in the East until being cornered. And finally the Salting of Carthage as an epilogue, ending the conflict for good. In comparison Caesar feels more like fly swatting, “this episode Caesar completely overpowers that enemy of the week”

Given the back-and-forth, maybe making it 2 parallel campaigns would fit best, one for each side. Rome ending with Carthago delenda est while Carthage having an alt-history ending with Hannibal finally dealing the final blow to Rome, in an all-or-nothing move after Cannae.

(we have Genghis ending his campaign in an effective world conquest, implying the massive conquests of the HRE and France which would have been a nightmare for the Mongols to conquer due to their castles spam, so by comparison it’s quite tame)

If there’s ever a Chronicles III, I would go Romans, Carthaginians and Iberians, so you can do all Punic wars

Depends if they pick the low-hanging fruit, or remember the Diadochi were the main course.

For the Punic Wars you may also need Gauls and Syracuse, though Syracuse can be Athenians.

It makes more sense to include the Iberians over the Gauls because Hispania was a major and prolonged theater in the Second Punic War, where Iberian tribes fought extensively with both Carthage and Rome, and also against them. The Second Punic War literally started there with the siege of Saguntum. The Gauls would be better reserved for a future DLC focused on Julius Caesar.

The Romans had to fight Celts in northern Italy. Granted they could be partially made by creating untrainable scenario only Celtic warrior.units and buildings to represent them there.

I think we need various DLC about Rome because this is too big to fit in a single DLC

Rise of Rome DLC

From the foundation of Rome to the fall of Carthage.

Factions needed : Romans (republican) *, Carthaginians, Iberian, Numidian

Gaulish can be represented here with scenario editor unit. A real gaulish civilization will be needed later with the Cesar conquest of the Gaul featured in the civil war DLC

End of the DLC because this was the last major conquest of the romans.

We will likely get 2 Romes in Chronicles. The Republic and the Empire.

The Kingdom was too short lived and not important enough to be worthy it’s own civ.

Honestly it’s civs like the Gauls that I look forward to the most, their architecture will likely look super cool.

And they were considerably more civilised than how they usually are portrayed.

Notably, Gallic bakers were quite renowned in Rome. Some things never chance :france: :baguette_bread: :cheese: :wine_glass: :croissant:

The Gauls were pretty civilised and I think the Chronicles team knows that and will design them accordingly.

Gauls, Germanii and Scythians are on top of my wish list.

Though it would be awesome to see Chronicles go all the way to East Asia, but now we already have the 3 Kingdoms in AoE2…

There barely were any contact between the Classical World and East Asia, it’s best to stay focused on the Classical World for that.

Not much but there sure was. Not sure if Chronicles will ever want to jump places but having ancient China and Korea could be really cool.

The funniest thing is that Buddhism was introduced to China via the Greeks thanks to Alexanders conquests.

The original Rome At War mod also has the Roman Republic and Empire as two different civilizations, so they could replicate that in Chronicles.

But not much gameplay-wise for AOE2, Alexander didn’t try to invade China for example. He probably would have had he had the chance, but he didn’t.

Well i just finished the campaign. And the voice actor said we will get a long and enduring empire. So i think Romans or Chinese, or Egypt maybe.

Because Egypt was off screened during the campaign of Alexander.

Rome and Carthage confirmed then, maybe egypt will get added too.

If Chronicles BfG could exist in a vacuum with 3 civilisations then a new DLC could exist in a disconnected location with 3 new civs.

Another candidate would be the Maurya Empire that did rise around that time. But that didn’t last that long.

I think the Egyptians are unlikely because they are under constant foreign occupation from the time of Alexander until the 20th century.

Rome is the most obvious choice of course and the one most people are waiting for.

Remember Cleopatra?

An Egyptian queen, but from the Ptolemaic dynasty.

Egypt was still Egypt, only its dynasty changed. They fought against Rome and also against the Greeks as the Ptolemaic Dynasty, so it’s quite possible they’ll add them.

Now, if they were to add them as Egyptians or as the Ptolemaic Dynasty, that’s the point.

I still think it would be great if, after telling the beginning of the Romans, we went back in time and told more chronicle stories.

If we include the Jewish rebellions, they could also add the Hebrews.

Battle of Pelusium in 525 B.C

The Persians defeated the Egyptians by throwing cats at them.

The Tessarakonteres, best naval work of the ptolemaic dynasty in Egypt.

I doubt they will get added to any game anytime soon with the current world status.
