In Beasty patch changes video he just released, he seems quite against the TC nerf.
And I think I agree with him on this one. I think TC needed a nerf, but It would have been better to reduce HP from 2500 to 2000 and reduce garrison from 10 to 8. But keep the range to 8 so it’s not a massive buff to longbows.
He was more against nerfing multi-TC in general. His main issue was that he doesn’t think booming is OP, and there’s only a handful of civc that build multiple TCs.
Yes that’s right, there are so many others ways to boom (trade, fishing, ottoman and mali have other ways).
That’s this nerf is really just a Abbasyd and China nerf.
If not I’m woefully confused?
When you play Mali is it meta to turtle and pit mine and gold boom? And havent multiple pro players including marinelord grief this concept?
When you play Mongol? Isnt the concept to either tower rush into trade or go directly into trade? (Boom) haven’t pro ALSO claimed about that?
We already know RUS and China (all 4 mentioned are at the top of the ladder in the highest rank)
Yes i understand a nerf to 2nd TC does NOT nerf ALL boomers but its a start And map layouts can address trade boomers and mali cow boomers. So really all boomers might have effectively been nerfed on the upcoming patch.
I personally disagree with his opinion that booming is not strong.
However it is true there are only a handful of civs that go multiple TCs.
You have China and Abbasid that always do it. Rus and French frequently do but aren’t really affected nearly as much.
Pretty much everyone else either always or almost always plays 1 TC. The change also doesn’t hurt civs that do other forms of booming (such as Mali or Mongols)
PS Conqueror or Diamond are much better for analysis than Conq 4. top 120 players have a very big skill variance and civs get huge winrate bonuses and maluses for which specific players like to play those civs. That and sample size is so low that someone getting 2-3 bad base spawns can be like 5-10% winrate in civ matchups.
also Rus absolutely ALWAYS goes immediately into 2nd TC. So again TC NERF nerfs abbasid china rus most directly.
the OTHER boomers
Mali
Mongol
THEIR respective BOOMs are sensitive to map layout. Where they put the neutral markets; where you put the gold veins. Counterplay MAY HAVE ALREADY been implemented to insure said boomers get more contention with a change in map layout. 2nd TC therefore would need a specific address because map layout is almost immaterial.
If they were changing the map layouts, they would have listed it in the patch notes alongside the other map changes (unless they decide to make undocumented changes, but probably won’t be major like repositioning markets).
While Rus does commonly go 2nd TC, the change doesn’t affect them nearly as much just because the civ is already strong against feudal aggression. While it would be a minor nerf, it wouldn’t hit them nearly as hard as china/Abbasid. In fact it will probably be a buff for their matchups vs Abbasids and China since they are in a much better position to abuse weaker 2nd TC
I believe this is suggestive of a more consistent and maybe competitive layout across the board. Plus we have the designs for the new maps? Canal for damn sure has competitive resources alllll infront of your base.
I dont see how this gold distance change affect mali or mongol. Its just a edge case they fixed and most of the time will be the same.
Also if you take a specific map like Dry Arabia, nothing in current patch is changing anything about mali or mongol boom.
That being said, I’m conflicted about the change because at the same time Abbasyd can be quite good at trading as well. So maybe we will switch from eco-wing to trade wing. Or military wing with trade in the background. So that Abbasyd can still do well in feudal. But this won’t work vs knight civs.
China isn’t nearly as much affected by the change because of barbican and often see players (maybe only at lower league) put their 2nd TC right next to the first one anyway (Why do players do that by the way?).
The biggest change is in Abbasyd vs English matchup, its huge.
It suggests to me, especially given the dev notes that follows that stuff won’t necessarily be within TC protective range. And likely to be spread apart. Resources being spread apart means onr mongol TC WILL UNLIKELY cover ovoo gold AND wood (which is NOT RTS…)
ALSO gold being spread out potentially means mali will not likely have 2 gold spawn next to each other and make for EZ defense. Heck if the first gold isn’t under TC protection this opens up Drush again vs Mali.
Yet the boom had tobe nerfed because there isn’t viable counterplay to current 2nd TC. ITS TOO SAFEAND TOO REWARDING.
But was this the right direction for nerf?? Hmmm; rime will tell. I’ve veen of the opinion that 2nd TC also need to have a defensive tower fortified. So to your point abbasid will feel this the worse. China and Rus will be forced to place 2nd tcs nerf landmarks. All 3 reactions are a plus for aggro civs!!! And maybe it wishful thinking; but I’m hopeful map layout will nerf the remaining boomers.
With new civs and such it’s not impossible that Abbasid transitions towards different playstyles. If for example FC becomes a popular strat (something Beasty thinks is not unlikely), they do have a very solid castle age if on even footing. The do also have good trade options.
Also can’t really tell what civs will be popular with 6 new options coming in and that can have drastic meta implications too.
With the wall buffs/changes we could theoretically also see a more defensive/wall heavy playstyle.
Not to mention how new playable maps will affect civs. Heck, this map pool itself along with the Ottoman buff
gave English like a 2-4% winrate increase last patch despite no civ change to themselves.
Yeah personally i think FC is more boring than boom because you are basically skipping feudal age completely in the game… While booming at least you’re still harassing or countering harass while in feudal and it doesn’t skip the age entirely, or at least you spend more time in feudal.
Some matchups (like abba vs english) have very little options in feudal, the more you stay in feudal the more you will lose… So they are kinda forced to go castle now. Before they also had the option to use TC to secure some areas at least.
The game AOE 4 has changed in a reactionary fashion since its inception. That is not proper planning especially taking radical decisions. For example, the anticipated change regarding second town centers is a change that will completely alter the face of the game. This will bring in less new players and will eventually lead some players to leave. I played the original in 1997, therefore I know a thing or two about this game.
Familiarity and consistency are what will make current players bring their friends over to this game. But if it is changing at every update radically, then you will lose from your fan base instead of gaining some.
I only play the Abbasids civilization … with the change to the second TC garrison and LOS this will make the difficult task of winning close to impossible. Please listen to comments developers and keep the second TC as it is right now with a garrison of 10 and the same line of sight.
Wow, the patch notes are awesome, particularly the new wall system! It’s great to see A.I improvements too, as I prefer to play vs a good A.I rather than PvP. Hopefully this will make the Hardest A.I (non-cheating) more challenging.
Speaking of A.I, I wonder how good it will play the new civs like Jeanne D’Arc? It will now have to control a hero that must engage in battle, soak XP and not die. Will be insteresting to see how good A.I players can handle these new mechanics.
The reworked wall system looks revolutionary and incredibly fun! Walls have always felt cumbersome and awkward, now they will function seamlessly. And now being able to wall inside your town, around buildings and using static resources as a part of the wall, will open up new interesting defence strategies. Perhaps this was one reason non-landmark Town Centers were nerfed, to balance out the improved wall mechanics?
Just 6 days left for patch / expansion, let’s gooo!
