Hello,
I’ve had this problem for a few months now, but only recently have I decided to find a fix for my issues. Here goes. Some of the settings I make are not saved, and I have to turn them back on every time I start the game (for example, extended tooltips from the in-game interface, or the grid to be always on, from the Game tab). In addition to that, looks like I lose all medals I get from campaigns/challenges. Mods/Icons I win from events seem to work though, and I can use everything I got. Not sure if that helps, but I noticed some errors in the log - looks like the game would not load my profile:

I tried to find something similar in the forum, but I couldn’t. I also tried to reinstall the game, but that didn’t seem to work. Any additional suggestions you may have will be greatly appreciated.

Here’s how to reproduce the issue:

  1. Start the game, go to Options, make changes, for example, enable extended tooltips, click confirm, then go back to the main screen.
  2. Start a campaign, for example, Marching and Fighting (The first tutorial campaign). Complete on any difficulty, say, hard. Get back to the campaign menu. The gold medal is there.
  3. Exit the game.
  4. Start the game again. Check Options. The extended tooltips are switched off. The gold medal from the campaign is also gone.

I have the same problem for Age of Empires III DE and I tried a few extra steps (didn’t have any success, though):

  • I checked every single permission granted on Regedit on Windows 10.
  • Did a reset on every permission in my machine to the default state.
  • Did a “clean” reinstall of my OS.
  • I also reinstalled my AoE 3 DE game.

But so far, nothing worked and the problem persists.

Oh, one last question: Do you have your Steam files in a place different from “C:/” ? I’ve everything installed on “D:/” so it might be something related to this odd problem faced by us… Who knows. I’ve tried everything that I know.
