Show unit/tech descriptions in building's queue when hover over icon

When you hover over a unit or tech before you start building it, it gives a helpful description. I wish that the description would also appear in the queue (if you hover over the item in queue) after you queue the unit or tech.

Sometimes I forget what the benefit, advantage, or specialization of the thing I’m building is and the only way to see it again is to cancel the item from queue and view it in the building’s production panel again. Or consult the tech tree, which I’d never do.

This is important. Sometimes I want to re-prioritize queued productions based on something that happened on the battlefield, or you want to make a shift in strategy for whatever reason, or your resources are low and you need to juggle things around. I need to know exactly what I have queued up (descriptions) so I can figure out what I want to delete from queue.

Here, I hover over Arson and it gives the benefit info:

But then when I hover over the item in the building’s queue, it gives zero info. It just says to click it to remove it from the queue. Not very helpful:

Instead, I want it to tell me, “Infantry +2 attack vs. buildings” like it did before I queued it.

Similarly, with units, I can’t always keep track of what advantages they have. Before building a unit, I see all this helpful info in my Extended Tooltip. Like, for Spearman, it is “anti-cavalry, strong vs. mounted units, especially elephants. Weak vs. Ranged soldiers and infantry”:

But once I start building it, it’s just, “Click to stop creating this unit” in the queue :frowning:

I’m surprised this haven’t gotten any feedback. This is especially problematic for new players who try to learn the game. Sure I’m not on the level where the time loss from re-queuing an upgrade matters, but it is really inconvenient.

Another issue is that tooltips for blocked buttons don’t show preconditions. I think only age advancement shows it, but otherwise nothing tells me why I can’t click the button (building or an upgrade). Again this is all obvious for pros, but for new players it can be really frustrating, because you can’t build an archery range for example, nothing tells you why.

It is very confusing, imo, if you have “Display Future Items” enabled in Interface > Options:

  • Shows all techs, but doesn’t tell you what age they open up in. Like, Archery Range should say a prerequisite is “Feudal Age” here. Same with Stable, Siege Workshop, and others. I don’t know why anyone would want this setting enabled, tbh:

It was so confusing to me that I disabled that option. Maybe you need to do the same if you haven’t already and you agree?

  • I prefer it just show me current age techs. A lot easier to understand what’s going on. Have you tried disabling this?

Also, make sure you have Extended Tooltips (F1) enabled to see full descriptions like I show above, if you like that.

  • It likes to disable itself every so often which is a bug that never got resolved. So just remember F1 is the toggle if you play a week from now and it’s mysteriously off again.
  • And you also have to de-select and re-select something (like a unit or building in lower-left HUD) after enabling/disabling for it to refresh in-game. If you don’t do this, it’s confusing. You’ll wonder why the toggle isn’t being reflected in-game immediately after hitting F1
