So we have S8 update preview but you missed some very important fixes

1- Path finding improve
2- AI Fix being afk
3- Centering camera randomly in any unit while using select all units/select all melee, horse, ranged or siege unit. Disabling centering camera while selecting unit its not a solution because also disables centering camera for buildings, workers or any units, this is a specific problem while having a fight while creating more units and keep fighting in all in
4-English nerf doesnt attack main english problems together with little horse buff.
White tower should have a limit range creation
Should hold same ammount of units as keep does
Archers still main dps source since path finding and body blocks kill melee units dps
Real counter for archers are mango, mango need tons of resources, craft time and castle age together they are slow and projectile speed can be quite easily dodgeable
King should be less tanky, king need to be a unit for raiding outside of tc range. If one free unit can kill in 3 hit a worker while ignoring defenses of tc having passive healings thats the problem together of free tc opening for english
5- Water units should not hit hard structures, water units need to be mainly utility for raiding or economy, one boat can have the same impact as bombard without worrying about anything since ground units cant reach them
6-improve your ui in learn tab with more information, we dont know stats of each unit we not even dont know stats improve while upgrading units ingame or learn tab ask any player wha you gain from knight to imperial age upgrade knight and no one will know
7-Melee armor/melee damage need improves, everyone go first ranged armor in blacksmit
8-TC should have more unit holding while aging up, and workers should have better upgrades. They die against anything so fast and raids are so easy to execute, specially with knights. Feels so cheap having 6 knights running in your base and you are 3 min chasing them because they hurt your whole base
9-Ping limit, fix your matchmaking filters conq player should not play against gold players in any scenario
10- Make a single mmr for solo/party this is already tested in other games, winning solo +25 winning party +15, you are in the same bracket in both (its really common find conq players in solo destroying matches party matches because they are gold there
11-For real fix centering camera while selecting all military units: Should not center anything or center where most units are. Select all monk units doesnt exist, select all military units also selects horsemonks
12-Attack behavior: improve it for real, if you select all knights and A+click one siege, knights should attack sieges and then the closest one (generally ranged units)
13- Reduce hitboxes, body block sucks for units and resources on the floor except mines

Agree with everything you listed.
I just can’t believe that this rather small patch is all we got after waiting for 4 months.

They did announce a massive patch a while back and it has not yet come.

Is this small patch supposed to be the giant one???

This is half of the season patch. The other is set for August after Wololo tournament. Mentioned at bottom of patch notes

This is my favorite part of the patch notes. They confirmed season 9 and 10. We don’t have to go one season at a time wondering if the game gets discontinued tomorrow and the doomers win.

Indeed, so 5-6 months these few tiny adjustments and a few more?
After generating MASSIVE cash with the game and especially the MOST EVER FINANCIALLY SUCCESSFUL DLC ?

Yes all good of mid season update, but they are very slow updating the game and im still very afraid of devs not having the correct way to continue with aoe4 and having more playerbase
Answers are there, and its quite easy to fix as example a path finding issue if they reduce hitboxes around 25% the game could feel way better. I can see it since day 1 when my 6 pack mangonel got stuck in bushd doing circles movement while i was having 100vs100 fight

There are more, ### ### ##### mechanics and micro tempos where the game feels cheap like doing all in and rally point to enemy base x5 ratio archers and spear/horse. You could nerf archers movement speed to 20% you will not feel anything in fights because archers are there in the same position shooting one step back and shooting, but you will feel it when crossing the whole map for doing that cheap mechanic call it rally point on enemy base and ignore what is happening because first fight started with +10 units and you just won one fight

All these stuff are quite easy fixeable, ######### but for that you need at minimal monthly updates small updates and devs constanly watching feedback, numbers and stuff, and probly aoe4 doesnt have that team at this moment

At very least for start balance can be not the main goal, qol updates and make the game more responsive and little easier to execute for newbies should be the main goal like i said making your horse army actually attacking archers and not being stuck anywhere with whatever

I cant tell much more about every civ i only play hre and 50% of my matches are against england im plat1 with 400 matches or something and today played against ayyubis didnt know to react against these special horse units made knights crossbow and everything evaporated. Its my fault i suck i know that, but after 400 matches its just age of england 4 simulator trying to cancel white tower creation in my base or middle of the map

They literally state in the patch notes that a larger patch will be released after the Red Bull event, sometime around mid-August.

Like… with what a new dlc with 6 more paid civs? thats the explosion of content? thats atleast its not what i want

Imagine i not even have current dlc

They stated that several times since release.
The “massive” patches were usually minor and late.
I won’t believe it until I see it…

Exactly this…

They have had several major patches throughout the game’s life cycle and will continue to support the game for as long as possible. The DLC sold exceptionally well, and it’s only a matter of time before the next DLC is announced.

There may still be things that the developers have not addressed that you would like to see fixed, and it can be frustrating to wait for these issues to be resolved. However, the developers have shown that they listen to the community and have made changes based on player feedback in the past.

The game is in a much better state now than it was at launch. If you continue to provide feedback, the developers will eventually get to all of the issues that need to be addressed.

People seem to have incredibly unrealistic expectations for what are normally monthly updates. The big problem we have at the moment seems to be a combination of the following valid issues:

  • A long time between regular monthly updates (post Relic going independent)
  • This Seasonal update being split into two parts
  • The longstanding lack of communication

All that said, there are some posters for whom nothing would impress, so.

Also that other AAA RTSes have their own history of issues, and the people frequently compare AoE IV’s before to AoE 2 DE’s after.

Having the attack move command be executed when clicking anywhere should have been there from the start, having seperate way points on dock so you don’t have to reset it every time you want to swap from eco production to military should have been there too. It took them nearly a year to fix issues with Delhi, you couldn’t pick your player color for a while either…

Games like AoE IV are an accumulation of features introduced over years through patches and expansions. Yes, it has failed to meet expectations and lacks features that were promised from the beginning. But season 8 or 9, even 10 and beyond, are hardly the final point to measure it on. At the very least we should take time to note the changes and additions between each patch and find issues that continue to elude the team. So I appreciate OP for taking the time to list issues they would like to have addressed.

no that the expectation for the RELEASE STATE for an aoe game. it should be this and the actual content.

You sell a car without an engine but don’t mention that.

Then, you keep playing time and delay delivering and mounting the engine.

When the customer is losing his sh**, you tell him.
“We have amazing news! Just pay 50% of the original price on top again and you’ll get an amazing engine!”
And then they give you a non-working engine.
And you are like “wow thats amazing, thank you so much for ##### ## over, please do it more!”

Exactly…
That is, what people blinded by American ways of business, absolutely toxic business strategies, don’t want to hear and see…
They are so used to getting ###### over and getting milked, that they even justify it…

Our role as a fanbase is feedback.

A big part of that role is the accuracy of that feedback. This is not the company milking the fanbase, that term is better defined as:

Milking strategy is a short-term revenue generating strategy. This is a marketing tactic, which is deployed to snatch the largest possible revenue and profit from a particular product or service in the quickest period of time, regardless of the item’s future possibilities for generating revenue.

At least get your facts straight.

Being honest if you analize his marketing they know average aoe player its 30y+ old legacy dude, just check this forums, main webpage, ingame structure

Modern aoe its just a legacy for old dudes who have money to pay dlc, but if you want grow the community with “modern” players you need changes aoe4 its pretty much legacy game + modern graphics + light matchmaking

Thats why you see they are “failing”, they not want a smooth game easy to play hard to master, they want a legacy rts aoe game. No one want deal with a terrible path finding in 2024 and you are forced to manually que step by step what each group of unit need to do in a fight

I quite understand the reason of the big hitboxes, hitboxes means a crash when 100 vs 100 fight start you can see the crash in the frontline, but you can also see the issue while you want target the units in the back. Its either archers nerf or reduce hitboxes in that crash

You treat the devs like thieves, the game like trash, and the people who disagree with you like fools.

When the game released it was in a very bad state… but that was three years ago. The understanding I have of your position is that:

  • All effort made to improve the game is explicitly to draw a profit from its user engagement
  • The intent of Microsoft is to make money off of an already existing fanbase
  • Most people who disagree with you are defending something that only seeks to exploit them

There was another thread derailed by the same discussion: Why no any news about 8th season?

I feel partially responsible for the state of this thread now. The last one went completely off topic after we went back and forth, eventually the conversation just died.

My mistake was engaging you on it, causing there to be more attention to your tangent. The intent this time was to pull focus back to OP’s discussion, features that the patch should have added. I’ll try to just stay on topic instead of getting swooped up by the drama.

1).- “Horseman attack range increased”

more range for the horseman

GOOD, that’s what many of us have been suggesting for a long time. I guess now the horsemen will be even more feared to make a group of them in feudal for Raids, and especially “More useful” against mass ranged units. I hope horseman rush becomes more popular from now on, hehe

2).- “New Unique Unit for Mongols”

I read new Mongolian unique unit, unlockable by Landmark, and I’m already happy.

That another event is coming back also makes me happy.

That this is only the first part of the updates for the eighth season is even better, so there will be part 2.

I’m going to post more ideas for unique units as quickly as I can. Lately, since I haven’t had the chance to play much AoE IV multiplayer, I’ve been playing a paused game, Medieval Total War 2, and I’ve come up with quite a few new ideas for unique units. That and other concept sketches that I created like crazy to give more mercenary units to the Dutch (Burgundy-Netherland).

What will the Khan Hunter be like? I don’t think it will be a horseman, because it would make the proper early horseman to look bad. Could it be another horse archer? A new type of horseback villager? There is a lot to theorize, I will wait for him in due time.

Also, I just discovered that the Mongols had a guard of soldiers of Alan origin: The Asud, or Alan Guard.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asudhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ Asud)

Anyway, take care of yourselves. I’ll talk when I have more time. Bye.

The game was playable at launch despite its bugs and issues, so this comparison is invalid. By your logic, the game would not have been able to even start, let alone play a game match. However, this was not the case for AoEIV at launch, as both were working quite smoothly for a big release like this, if you ask me.

Again, this is an invalid comparison. It’s like you’ve played an entirely different game. As I’ve said before, the game is not perfect and still has issues that need to be addressed, but the game you are describing is not this game. You are exaggerating simply because you are upset over some things that bother you. For that reason, you come to the forums and complain, talking about the game as if it’s in a much worse state, which is untrue.

You can be critical and provide feedback for the game while simultaneously acknowledging the good work and effort they have done over the years based on our feedback. Yes, some things should have been there from launch, but now most of those features are in the game, so there is no point in bringing this up as they have already been given to us.

Lastly, I think people lack the knowledge of how much time it takes to work on the game behind the scenes, as well as when Microsoft gives the green light to release things like patches and DLCs. My point is that there are many things to take into account for why things are the way they are.

My biggest issue right now is the lack of communication from their end. Even if they don’t have much to say, just staying active with the community and being seen on the forums more would do a lot.

Perhaps this game is not for you, and that’s okay. There are more games in this franchise, and Age of Mythology Retold is coming soon as well.
