Of course, Spain did bad things in America, they were not distributing flowers and giving love. Besides, they took all the gold they could, but a country is a company, a business and there are interests just like what happened in Africa, that’s why the first and second world wars began.
I’m just saying that the Spanish were not as bad as it is written in the history
a country is NOT a business, a country doesn’t have to make profit, and never have aimed for that, they have to run a country through the means they can.
You are judging history from a nowadays POV. Spaniards killed people of course, IT WAS A CONQUEST. They acted as any european would did, but with less racism. We had a----heid in South Africa the last century while there were mixed couples in Spanish America
They became America one of the richest part of the world too. Also There wasnt that sentence that said a death native is the best one.
If the Virreinatos were that bad how they survive for 300 years??.
Sorry to bother you with this question, my friend, but in Brazil the teaching of European history is a disgrace. Was the Philippine dynasty that bad for Portugal? Has the union really brought no benefit to the country?
The first 2 Felipes were ok, the 3rd one tried to bring Portugal (a separate crown) into the fold, trying to turn into a province. Obviously the Portuguese Nobles stood to lose power.
Also the Spanish had the Dutch and the English has enemies and they also became enemies of Portugal.
This is when Portugal lost quite a few possessions and even almost lost Brasil to the Dutch.
The Military support from Spain, save a few exceptions was weak, to help the portuguese colonies, the Portuguese were being recruited to fight the dutch but when to receive rewards for their service they were treated second to the spanish.
Also in Portugal due to the fact that they were fighting a Spanish war they did not receive any rewards aswell.
All these factors cause discontent on the Nobility (probably the same families that supported the first Felipe) to revolt.
Theres a lot more to this from both sides obviously and it’s an interesting subject to read about.
It would be unfair to say it did not bring benefits, but it’s not a matter I’m versed in to be honest.
Best thing is to read about the restoration war yourself and form your opinion
A quick wikipedia link is the best place to start, but the books on the sources will give you more in depth info.
Thank you so much for your answer! Would you have any indication of reading about the subject, if possible in Portuguese?
No worries, I will answer in kind.
Yes well they were “Virreinatos” but were basically another form of Colony, dont get me wrong, I dont hate Spaniards nor anyone in particular, was just stating facts. Nor you can say such propaganda that Hernan Cortez libarated people, he was no savior nor freedom fighter.
Spanish as most people in their shoes, saw an oportunity and took advantage of x factor in order to Conquer and profit, and as most conquerors have done and will do, will take priority on their own people, as Vikings tryed to conquer England, as Romans conquered many places they will make their people 1st citizens (nobles or the name you like) and will be on top of other people.
ON TOPIC
I have recently suggested a few changes to Europeans, and suggested the idea of a “knight” (Heavy cavalry, high hit points no bonuses), “Conquistador” could be their unique (Equivalent to Cuirasseir) with a secondary ranged attack that is not very high (like Hakkepelits from Sweeden).
Also I dont know but you folks but feel that Spanish Tercio should be a little bit more “special” since they had the reputation of being “invincible”. Well they (Spanish) lost a few battles with them but not due them.
