That depends on the context…
What do you mean? Why is he struggling?
I don’t intend to watch any of his videos related to the 3K civs
From what I’ve seen, he is constantly making offhand jabs or backhanded comments in the beginning and the end of each video.
Ornlu was pretty scathing in his original prediction video aboht the possibility of 3k in AoE2. I doubt the sentiment has changed, and I suspect he is only covering the content because it’s got to do with his ability to have early access to AoE2 content.
He tries to remain neutral/professional because that is his role, but as in the Hei Guang Cavalry video, he clearly says at one point that he would like to complain about the DLC like everyone else, but that he cannot.
Once my mod is done, I’ll send him the link to see if he’s interested. He’ll be eating like a king with the sheer volume of videos he can make from it anyway.
It looks like the primary goal of this DLC is to expand the player base into China. While the current players are secondary.
the campaign embargo for the first three scenarios was lifted. Ornlu just played the first scenario…The end was absolutely painful to listen to.
Seen in part now, this DLC screams Chronicles-like from every angle. Only fools refuse to accept it.
Why?
I haven’t had time to watch it yet.
He is essentially disgusted with the direction the game has taken with this DLC. I am not sure that even those who have only played Campaigns for 20 years will be very comfortable here. It’s not just having or not having ranked heroes… it’s much more serious imo.
He will be even more so when this DLC becomes the best-selling DLC in the Age of Empires franchise.
That got me thinking when I watched the video. Maybe Chronicles was a success after all, so they wanted to implement its campaign style and add more civilizations to the ranked mode, so that they can get even more revenue with more players buying the DLC. We won’t know whether Masmorra was right about the pre-sales numbers and this DLC becoming the best, but if it’s the best of both worlds for many players who don’t care about the medieval immersion, it makes sense why they picked this route. Besides, it doesn’t make any sense to create these immersive campaigns if Chronicles wasn’t a success, since they’re more expensive and time-consuming to make instead of throwing the classic-formula DLCs. This also explains why they utilized some Chronicles-esque features we see in the campaign, thus, the similar folders and filings we encountered before. In other words, this DLC has never meant to be in Chronicles, but its main goal is to offer both worlds instead of concentrating on the single-player base only so that they can get more money. Chronicles could’ve been even the testing ground to try new stuff out and see whether it’s successful. In other words, the direction this campaign makes indicate Chronicles’ possible success, not failure.
I agree. Another thing that made me think, is that the three civilisations of Chronicoles appear in the tree of regular game. My guess is they also thought about it at the time to put those 3 in raked. Only now they have decided to impose them.
This is why, in my opinion, the situation is much more serious than I thought.
Didn’t we see them before, too, or maybe I haven’t realized it? I don’t know, maybe they added them for custom plays since you can play with them in the lobbies against the regular civs. However, if this DLC becomes successful, that could be a case. With that being said, they would need to change how the dock works completely for the other civilizations as well. Otherwise, water play would be messy. So, we won’t know whether they’ll do it in the future, but I cannot rule it out.
Ok so the DLC is out in 3 days (Tuesday). There are no social media posts on the weekend, so only 2 days to advertise and that’s including the day of release.
That means that they literally never gave an “overview” post on any of the 3K civs, but did for Jurchens and Khitans. Hilarious.
And that tells me that they hear the complaints and refuse to communicate directly to us instead of giving us something to work with. Lovely, it looks like I’m reliving the Total War fiasco all over again… ![]()
The worst part is, Microsoft isn’t gonna take them to task like Sega did Creative Assembly…
It’s actually worse than Total war ( in terms of adding their new content) because at least with total war it was a separate game and I could still play the old and gold total war games.
Here? They are adding 3K to main aoe2 and I can’t ignore it except maybe going back to play HD edition.
At least they seem aware…
There are overviews for the 3K civs at the official site, though.
I’m interested to learn why you think so. (I didn’t know what incentivized Sega / Creative Assembly to fix their game)
