Because I don’t play favorites, we really don’t know it’s selling well…
I wish the backlash was big enough to force changes, but I have always thought the DLC would sell well
Im honestly trying to ignore AoE youtube for a few days until we stop getting new stuff about the new ““civs””
You can certainly help the backlash. But I think it’s pretty significant so far…negative reviews have 5+ times more upvotes than positive ones, the most upvoted negative review has like 8 times the number of thumb ups compared to the most upvoted positive review. Even the devs have started replying to negative reviews - first time ever. Don’t stop now, and we just might remove the 3 short lived city states from ranked gameplay.
I hope you are right
But man I think the release date was the point of no return for this
Any time you think like that, remember what the UTs of Sicilians and Burgundians were at launch of Lords of the West, as well as a Vietnamese UT…and what they are now.
Releasing something new does not mean you cannot update/fix it. It’s not like someone is killed and there’s no way to bring them back. This is “just” software.
Correct.
There’s a few post-release options to fix this.
-
Remove the 3K from ranked and add 3 for free to anyone that bought the DLC. We have seen before that they can do something like this with Xie An. Which is funnily a similar situation given the whole “this was a disappointing DLC and we are fixing it in post”. Even making 3 extra civs isn’t that difficult, given the “Khitanguts”. Their UUs, castle and sheer amount of weird mechanics can be shared between two civs.

Change these factions into actual civs. Probably the messiest in terms of design, but the quickest and easiest.
One thing I have noticed that is funny, is that a surprising amount of people that bought the DLC and don’t care about history have negative views of the 3K because they are quite feeble and disjointed by design. So replacing them wouldn’t be that bad an idea.
By far the easiest would be to remove these 3 civs from ranked play…and that would be sufficient for now. And in the future - near future, hopefully - we just might get the Khitan rework, tanguts, and 4 more campaigns (Khitans, Tanguts, Jurches and Chinese…). I don’t have an issue paying for that - after all, devs need to get paid to keep working on the title - but make sure it actually is in line of what we ask for and what the game needs…
Sure. I’m just trying to offer an olive branch to the “I only buy for ranked” people. So this DLC turns into a success for all, not just them.
Unfortunately, 3K civs are well balanced and many people have fun with them. I think the hardest civ to play is the Khitans because of all the new bonuses they have.
You can balance galactic empire, trade federation or the gungans from star wars: galactic battlegrounds, and some people will have fun playing as them. Does not mean it’s right to keep them there, especially given the backlash…they can add the chronicles’ civilisations into ranked play, and I’m sure that they will appear balanced, too.
There are a lot of things that could sell but companies should still know what NOT to do.
Paradox is greedy. We all know. They are not mixing hearts of iron with crusader kings, or add a space marine faction because it is popular
I plea the WE to use their brains when pursuing money
