“Teutonic Knight” Unique Unit? “Crenellations” Unique Technolgy? General focus on the Crusades?
I think you forgot what it looked like for Indians civ before and after the DoI DLC.
Nope, although I should have said “features” rather than “bonuses”. But the important point is that none of the Indian subcontinent civs are the same as the previous Indians civ. If Teutons are split in the same way Indians were, Teutons as we know them now won’t exist, and I don’t want that to happen.
Of course! Crenellations were unique to the Teutonic Order – no other medieval Germans or anyone else used them ever. /s
“Teuton” is a medieval word for “German”, it’s cognate with “Deutsch” (squint the eye and you may see the ressemblance). “Regnum Teutonicum” is the latin for “Kingdom of Germany” (german core of the HRE evolving from East Francia). “Teutonic Knights” thus only means “German Knights”, as they were a crusading order mainly coming from Germany (while France and french-speaking regions of the HRE made up the bulk of crusaders coming to the Levant, to the point “Franks” was a generic term used by Muslims to mean crusaders).
That’s why I’m opposed to splitting the Teutonic Order from the Kingdom of Germany, just like it wouldn’t make sense to split the Kingdom of Jesuralem and Principality of Antioch from the Franks or another civ.
I don’t want that either. That’s why I say they would remain unchanged - apart from the texts in the Encyclopedia and the names of the AI rulers.
The difference is that the German crusader knights created permanent states on the Baltic Sea - the Teutonic Order and the Livonian Order. They founded powerful and wealthy cities such as Królewiec, Riga and Gdańsk. Due to the distance from the motherland, they developed their own culture and tradition. Furthermore, they were not part of the Holy Roman Empire.
Still their “playstyle” remained close, a focus on heavy infantry and cavalry, strong fortifications (Malbrok). And despite having no official support, their manpower base for knights remained in Germany, usually second (or higher) sons with little hope for inheritance that tried their luck there.
I hardly see the need for a split.
Y’all are making me want to play the Barbarossa campaign next. But I so want to play Ivaylo!
that’s the perk of having 2 computers (a main desktop and a small laptop for travel). I could technically play 2 campaigns at once
I want to try to play three or four separate games at once for a video or stream idea, but I’m not sure my computer could handle it. It would be very chaotic and difficult to pull off.
Chess grandmasters usually play a great number of games at once, playing 1 move for one then switching to another against another amateur player who hopefully will have done his turn by the time the GM does all 10. You may want to try that by opening several instances of AOE2 at once (against the AI, with pause when you’re not playing)
Not multiple AoE2 games. Multiple DIFFERENT games, all with completely different genres, playstyles, and paces.
When you start screaming because you cannot manually drive the Cobra Car like in GTA, why cannot I run over enemy infantry ?
Lol.
Can we stop the stupid ideas?
you’re responding to a banned spammer alt.
This whole thread is BAIT!
To be fair, this thread has kinda hatched a few other semi-related discussions as well lol
This is GarganeIs alt. Us talking her gives him vindication
I’ve seen that name before, but I don’t think I was around whenever whatever happened happened, mind if I ask what the story behind that is?
Basically, it was a guy who was jealous of TheViper for having a gorgeous girlfriend, and was also jealous of everyone who was good at the game. He always seemed to have trouble winning, and complained about it on the forums. He also spammed the threads with constant political phrases that had no relevance to anything. He still makes a lot of alts nowadays, but they’re quickly caught and taken care of.
There was one alt that I managed to message before it was taken down. I gave him my “business” email (not my personal one), and we’ve managed to stay in regular contact since. He’s not a bad dude. He’s actually pretty nice. I seem to be the only one genuinely interested in helping him and being his friend; most people just see him as an annoyance, which is fair.
Interesting, ngl I didn’t expect “jealous of TheViper’s girlfriend” as being involved lol.
And i’m kinda not surprised that he’s chill in your experience, from what i’ve seen a lot of people act different on the internet for some reason; i’m guessing your side conversation is probably closer to what the guy is really like, and he was spamming to get attention, whether with the end goal of getting someone to help him in the game or something else.
Well, thank you for the forum history lesson! lol.
In 2021 I made a thread suggesting adding new Civilisations that aren’t directly splitting old ones but instead adding new ones that were previously pushed underneath an umbrella like Burgundians where previously represented by the Franks.
I suggested:
- Alemannia
- Poland
- Czechs
- South India
- South China
- West Rome
4/6 of my suggestions where added (South India = Dravidians) since then.
Others quickly suggested Armenians and Georgians too.
Unfortunately the thread derailed into a Eurocentrism discussion.
