Nice find. Daniel also wanted to add Brazil, as he is Brazilian himself.
3DE still had quite a few spots that could have been filled out. Sad.
Well, at least the Danes, Poles, and Moroccan mods are there for us, and they’re very well done. Got some South American mods coming, and a team is working on adding Persia and fleshing out the Indian subcontinent.
The mod’s presets are divided into these sections:
AFRICA
EUROPE
ASIA
AMERICAS
OCEANIA
HERDS
It includes no new art asset, so all the presets utilize existing art.
In fact, AoE3DE has copied all85 actual forests from the mod into its forest2.xml, only leaving out the “HERDS” section, which transform the forest tool into a huntable herd brush.
We don’t know why they are in 3DE. The mod’s inclusion has yet been acknowledged or credited.
It’s possible that the mod author had become an official developer and is already credited in the game, though that’s hard to tell now.
forest.xml — 23 from AoE3 base game; 1 Christmas special; 12 from TWC.
forest2.xml — 15 from TAD. 85 from the World Forests mod; 21 DE original African forests (they are somewhat messy, some seem redundant); 1 DE original Unknown Forest Funky for the Unknown map; 2 DE original European forests.
Honestly I always wondered where they came from too. I knew they’ve been around since TAD.
I think I only use preset forests on unknown. Everything else is little islands which contain patches of trees, some of which I probably made over complex to have some more randomness in the tree clumps.
I made several of the DE forests for the purpose of unknown. And the funky one is for pure troll.
