If they circumvent an IP ban, give them a MAC address ban.
Which is totally impossible to spoof /s
Sounds like if one person is hellbent on causing problems itās hard to stop them.
Seems like we should address the general case of people and not worry about the exceptional ones whoāll walk away from their desk if theyāll experience punishment for leaving a game with water on it.
Indeed, but not sure why you wanted to take a detour to this topic. As a solution to such a case would not be a simple one, which also just adds to my earlier point about data and research being pretty important in structurally solving a problem.
Refer to my earlier points:
so maybe we work around the fact that some people are going to alt-f4 and just correct the behavior of the people who do it just because thereās no reason not to?
unless you think the majority of people would ditch their keyboard for a jog when they glimpse a fish, in which case, we again disagree.
Mmm, no your earlier points do not make any sense here, sorry. You brought up the topic of a player hellbent on griefing just to be obtuse, and prove some convoluted point, but thereās none. At this point, the whole topic we are discussing now is far removed from the original point of this thread. The point remains the same:
Without data and research, no meaningful action can be taken. If we donāt know why people in general are skipping certain maps, then there is a reasonably high chance that any āresolutionā will be detrimental, or at least nonsensical.
Additional staple maps should be implemented along with a reduction of rotated maps To me, as a nomad map player, it seems silly that it goes out of rotation for any reason. People donāt like certain maps. I assume the player base knows that. Data is collected on what maps are being played both on ranked and unranked. That data should be used to implement additional staple maps with less maps rotated in for variance. It is a bottom-up solution: something the dev staff should pay careful attention to.
No need to punish the player base.
This post is now 6 months old⦠Why is it so difficult to allow people unlimited bans, but drop it if queue time for that player reaches 8 minutes or so?
Seriously, being forced to play on crappy maps is SO bad. I left the game one year ago because of it, this week I tried to return and I see its still the same. I have got ONE Arabia in my last 20 games. Had to play through FIVE Steppes, each one had worst generation than the previous⦠My last game, one oponnent was isolated from his teammates by a forest and it was mostly a 4v3.
i honestly have to agree to @WoeIsToWho since there is a seperation between an unfinished dev problem and people who stick to a band wagon solution. and yes @dknight2112 there is collectable data for maps as there should be collectable data of lets say a margin of games were its determable if people just stay to āone true mapā or if somene got grieft or just had a bad day @SouMexican honestly you should never hate or ruin games because of performance nobody can expect from us to always give 100%
so in this conclusion its a bit if a mixed feeling we honestly differate from player and maps that are just playable (in general sence player who just wanna play and maps that are all intended to be playable) but then again stubborness gets the greatest out of us
there is a collective way to improve the game so we dont have to punish player for a simple one sided map favoritsm or for alt f4ing but as it stands atm we have a constant side of it happen so its reasonable to @anon45959656 not kick them but give them a temporary timeout where hell the time depends. and yes i saw all 188 post im aware that people could just make smurfs. and thats why i agree to an ip punishment from woelwhotoe(hope i dident butcher your name) and yes people could also play something else or just take a break since it should differ from raging more in a different game with the negative Experience that you took with you from the aoe2 games or just take a break
i just advocate on thing here
make love not war(craft)
i think we are all enough to be inspiring and helpful for this community
we just need to get passed differences and work together
If anything itās you who are suggesting a band wagon solution. You are suggesting to introduce a punishment system that was never needed in 20 years of the gameās existence, vs we are suggesting to bring back something that was present for 20 years (map choice).
I am not claiming that Alt-F4 should never be punished and that you donāt have arguments for it, what I am arguing is that right now 90% of people who are doing it, are doing it because of a stupid map choice, and this problem is biasing you into thinking that Alt-F4 is a way more important problem than it should be. My experience on Voobly is that people never Alt-F4 out of a game unless the game is unplayable, I expect the same to happen on DE, so there would be no need for matchmaking punishment once we fix the map system.
all maps are playable and present in a good fashion of play some more some less doesnt mean you have to feel entilted bias because you dont feel like playing more them 2 maps and ruin everyone elses fun my alt f4 its connected you just dont seem to acknowledge this
No, we are suggesting that the system that didnāt exist for 20 years of the gameās history isnāt properly run yet. Disingenuous at best. You donāt need to punish people who ditch games because players get into a lobby, decide what settings, agree to the settings, then play. If someone ditches early in that setting the host has the choice simply to not play with them again. Nobody gets randomly slated into a Fatslob lobby and have no opportunity to leave. This is not public games.
You canāt just say āweāve never needed this beforeā because weāve never had matchmaking before. You just want the Matchmaking system to work like the Public games system worked before, but with a random opponent selected, and thatās your preference, but maybe the new system should be a new system rather than a rehashing of an old system with spinning rims.
The old system is still there. This new system is for climbing the ladder through overall play. Not whining about which maps you canāt ban.
Problem is, even fatslobs settings make more sense than some of the maps in the rotation⦠so no wonder that people rather skip through it.
Old patch load, black forest, viking ditto only?
Thatās about the most specific set of circumstances and restrictions, period. The only thing he isnāt specifying is what units they canāt make (which tbh is the purpose of forcing a viking ditto).
What exactly do you mean by this?
That some maps are more pointless than playing fatslob with his settings ![]()
Give me a list of the maps you think are pointless. Also, youāve outed yourself.
Outed myself? With what? I like playing a variety of maps. But maps also need to be of good quality to be enjoyable.
An example in the current rotation: Steppe, basically just remove the TC-less start, just make it a normal TC map, and fix the woodlines, so that you donāt get such cases that some bases are super easy to wall while others are completely open.
So you donāt like nomadic starts? Sorry. That doesnāt make it pointless. Nomad is played in tournament play on occasion. Just because you donāt value it doesnāt mean itās pointless.
I like nomad. I play a lot of nomad.
Not sure why you mention a different map at a sudden.
They have the same start, just a different layout. Itās still about making the best of a weird start.
