Most people, myself included have portugal ranked as the worst civ currently so perhaps wait for it to be reworked because they are terrible on land.
I’m enjoying malta, the crossbow are ridicuously cost efficient and can be upgraded by 4 cards to the point they become better than even forest prowlers. Fire throwers are also very unique units, once you get the arsenal techs for the grenade area of effect and counter infantry rifling they just kill everything, I feel bad playing vs dutch when they go skirm/goon because both of them are countered heavily by fire throwers. Their age 4 card for rockets allows them to kite and counter skirmishers easily, the flamethrower card is quite fun as well just wait until some caroleans try and run at you and they get instantly melted.
Yeah, that units are the actual ones that need balance.
As the other commenters have said without recs it is difficult to fully analyse the situation and it could be bad timing, and I agree that ports are not in a great spot.
My best take away is that in the situation described the fact that the opponent managed to pressure your base with such a strong mass means that there wasnt enough damage to their eco and often just having early raids (like 5 cav just hanging around near mine and hunts is enough to delay people.
Then you can build yourself up to the point where cassadors can shine (so 3 combat cards and guard upgrades) then combined with halbs or goons its a hard comp for aztec to do anything about.
this unit has always been broken since legacy tbh, and the card that gives them 16 range makes them even more broken haha xD
But erk compared to goons, i mean its not even comparable xD
I don’t think fire throwers are op though they are very expensive, 2 population and very low HP, it’s just infantry heavy civs like aztec and inca lack strong cavalry and also lack artillery both of which would kill them with ease.
sorry but eagle knight is not tagged as shock infantery when it receives damage, only for receiving bonus.
for receiving damage is tagged as light ranged cavalry
for receiving bonus is all tags on the iu
