Another reason seems to be people looking for sp contents have transferred to far more sp specialized games (like 4X or grand strategy).
So the earlier “advantage” of RTS, being a genre that combines both competitive with micro skills and casual with some strategic thinking and relatively grander battle representation, has now become a “disadvantage” (not competitive enough or casual enough) in an era with more choices.
I prefer they fixing tbe bugs, like unit stick to attacking walls, attack move unit randomly stop attacking etc…than having new civs. I’m fine with existing civs without new civs. Since AOM retold will be using aoe3DE engine I assume some aoe3 devs are working on aom retold now
I prefer this map instead…is in the middle of the AoE 3 timeline (1420-1880) that is 1650…that it, only three civs is missing in Europe: Denmark-Norway, PLC and Swiss (maybe Crimean Khanate/Tatars too)…
The current Germans civ is very Austrian - just change the Ruler, Home City, civilization description and change the names of Home City cards and that’s it. For this you can add to the current flag of this civ the Austrian coat of arms.
Not to be a downer but the game is pretty much dead with the radical imbalances. If you don’t want to play a lamer civ you get crushed.
It’s no fun much of the time. I play out of habit mostly. Devs aren’t really serious and it’s obvious the game is on the back burner.
When you have many civs with 30% win rates against complete classes of civs ( rush, turtle, etc).
Other civs obviously in the 70% win rate against same. Answering that are almost random patches that either do nothing to address the issues or make them worse. You have to question the plan
I’d normally criticize posts like this but since I got aoe4 in the sale and I’ve been playing that quite a bit and it is so refreshing not to have so much general bs/lame strats. Sure every game has lame stuff but the pure quantity of it in aoe3 de has got tiring for me.
People just don’t want to seem as complaining but it is the simple truth. The game really hasn’t been fun for some time. I’ve been playing just because it’s a routine. I uninstalled last night to cut the cord. Need to find something else.
Now I change my mind. I really think AOE4 should “replace” AOE2, to accommodate the pvp swarm.
I play other pvp games so I understand. Once you go on pvp, the only thing you care about is why I have this bad matchup, why they do not nerf/buff this, why I “outperformed” the opponent and still lost. When you see new contents you only fear it might be broken. When you see others having fun you hate them to death.
And developers first release a skeleton that is enough to run pvp——then enrich it later if it didn’t flop AND they have the incentive. You really need to pray both happen to get a decent game. Ironically it is impossible to make that skeleton “balanced” at release so people complain louder. That’s how a lot of RTS and other genre games got killed for 20 years.
Not all games need to suffer in that pvp hell. At least leave some games interesting.
It would be better if Stormgate or any other RTS “replaces” AOE4 as well, so even AOE4 has a higher chance of becoming interesting in the end.
