The future of AoE2:DE expansions

might be hard to balance AND keep interesting. You have to keep different map types, map sizes, different elos, and team games all in mind

Ok, you come up with 33 new civ designs that are balanced and unique. Not to mention the price of the full game would skyrocket. This isn’t an mmorpg, it’s an rts game. If we get 3 new civs per DLC up to 70 and each DLC costs $10, that brings the games full price up to $140, not including tax. There aren’t many rts games out there that cost double a normal triple A game

Who cares? You only buy the content you want, and you get 35 civs on the base game.

I already came up with 8, that I posted here and on Steam.
If MS is willing to recruit me, I am sure I could come up with at least 13 more.

There are enough bonuses for 30 civs.

More, if we get really creative.
At some point it will have to stop, because otherwise civ designs would become way too weird, and I would be happy with 50 civs, but I will buy as many as they can give me, and the recent DLC has proven that it does not alther the MP one bit.

30 could be without “creative” bonuses - bonuses like faster attacking Camels. 10 more could be with creative bonuses

This shows how difficult it is to properly balance the game for multiplayer. If “the same 7 civs” are so incredibly powerful that other options are ignored this is evidence for something bad. Although we have the best balance since ever, the DLC civs showed how absolutely difficult it is to balance multiplayer with new dynamics. More is not always better in my opinion.

Mind to share a link?

They are not usually “incredibly powerful”, they are just basic and have clear game plans.

Just go here, or on Steam, and check them out. I have teh same user name.
They are so spread out, it would be a chore taking hours, just to find all the posts.

So there is no big opus with all your ideas listed? That’d be cool to check out if you had the time to collect them

Actually I can’t find anything on steam and I’m not really looking through all your forum posts to check if I can find them here and there. Why not show like one example

The people who thought they were buying the “DEFINITIVE EDITION” of the game, not a game with updated graphics, and OH WAIT, you gotta spend $120 if you want the full age2 experience

21 still leaves 12 civs left, and with everyone complaining that European civs are too bland and overlap, I doubt there are enough civs out there that will be able to have unique bonuses. Say every civ has 4 bonuses(+team bonus), that’s 165 bonuses that all need to be unique in some way and also have to fit to the civ they are representing. Oh, lets not forget 66 unique techs that have to be unique too, also 33 unique units, not to mention you have to balance all these new civs. And according to CheshireWig, that is the LEAST amount of civs he wants.
Also, the tech trees and civ playstyles all need to be different if they are near eachother.

A remaster taht gets expansions, is a GREAT remaster.
Definitive is just a title, it would be stupid of Microsoft to not continue developing one of their best sellers.

you pay 30 bucks for full experience, all the other 90 bucks over the course of 9 years is for many many new civilizations and campaigns. Whereas all the AAA games for 70 bucks lose support in less than a year, or you get another year of expansions for 50 more bucks. Something else would be having a game, then cutting it into pieces and those cut pieces sell as DLC, or have some dropboxes/lootboxes and crap like that, which is NOT this case.

Never said it shouldn’t get expansions, but I don’t know any rts game ever(please share any you can think of)that has costed that much. It’s twice the price of a triple A game

Not RTS, but a lot of Totals Wars cost around $100.
The most successful Total War, Warhammer, is still being developed (3rd game coming soon) and if you want the whole game right now, it will be around $300.

Ok, Total War I will give you that, those are usually expensive, but Age is more of an rts than Total War imo

Considering the fact that AoE II has been around for two decades at this point and has been getting DLCs every couple of years it would really make sense if they slowed down a bit otherwise the game would have around 50 civilisations soon and honestly even the current 37 feels a bit much.

Comparing by population, Sri Lanka is greater than 4 times of Ireland.

Above map is comparison of Sri Lanka with very important Sicily, that made it into game.

To make it fair, you should compare Sri Lanka with this Sicily.
