The new forrest prowler

i think the discussion sway always in like 22th to 28th post, some points make since then have some team/treaty mindset.

That is my experience as well. Aztec in late team is weak at anti-heavy inf and not good in anti-artillery. the slinger is cost effective but not a pop effective unit, just imagine chinese with only 200popcap

I never said it isn’t important but you are mentioning cost as if there are 2 units standing there firing at each other. AK’s main advantage over a culv is its speed. You can walk forward attack some buildings and walk back, there is no incredibly slow unpacking animation and AK’s are just pretty good all round units.

here’s the trouble - speaking as an experienced but rather average aztec player -

Arrow knights are decent units per cost. They are good for siege pressure and decent for price against artillery - specifically now that they changed the hp threshold so that a falconet no longer takes one down in one shot. The trouble that they have in 1v1 supremacy is thus.

In order to counter a typical 2 falconet push you need to do the following:
Be age 3.
Build a rather expensive building that builds slowly and cannot be built ahead of time.
Train at LEAST 2 batches and realistically 3 batches of arrow knights - they train quite slowly too.
The shipments are extremely poor which exaggerates the above problems.
BUT in extended age 3 they are excellent units. The least mobile aztec unit but not bad, very long range and overall decent generalized range dps unit.
Contrast this against culvs where you only need a single batch of 2 to beat nearly any artillery push, it can feel really really frustrating as an aztec player to try to mass up a dozen arrow knights, and your goon option has the exact same limitations as arrow knights. plus you can’t train both because they share the same expensive building, and have rather subpar shipments

Agreed there are drawbacks to them which I suppose compensates for the fact that they are good all round and your building that trains them also trains other good units while euro civs must build a foundry just for the purpose of 2 culvs.

You can do the FF where you age up with 2 noble huts which saves you time and res building them and you can use to immediately set up a forward base, from there ship 7 arrow knights and train 1 batch and you should hold a falc push fine while fighting from the noble huts.

yup im in agreement with you more or less. There’s upsides and downsides to arrow knights. If I was in charge of balancing them id probably lean towards dropping the ranged damage and bumping up the artillery multiplier so they are more specialized
