Based on my play experience in PUP, MAA now takes too much extra damage and given the loss of efficient ways to counter sieges, mass production of riders became a good option, both in the Castle Age and the Imperial Age, and MAA became almost an identical lack of use of the necessary troop types to AOE2

Against horseman, I can use spearmen who equipped nagae yari, they can be more effective against horseman, and against units with very high melee armor, I can still use 11+10 spearmen to penetrate their armor, but also these spearman have higher health, Why use onna-bugeisha?

Another day, another video showing how busted archers are going to be next patch, and how worthless siege is.

This has to be fixed, zhu xi might as well have only built cavalry… not like they can counter archers with archers :upside_down_face:

Seriously, just give the springald a damage bonus vs all infantry types! It’s so ridiculous to see a ballista bolt deal more damage to a swordsman in full plate than an archer wearing a cloth tunic!

Additionally, they need to address the increased range of archers, especially the longbow and the Wynguard Ranger.

English maybe shouldnt get that tech they already have high range and in imperial your archers catching them is fine i guess.It is like giving janiisaries the +8inf bonus damage on top of that bonus damage to cav.

I do agree with elite army nerf personally, massing MAA in imperial with english is not fun. Same for HRE/Japan.You should not be able to make an army that is only composed of 1 TYPE of unit as it makes the game uninteresting. I like that they did not nerf MAA in castle because that’s where they should shine.

It makes sense that units of earlier ages get more obsolete in later ages, for examples archer are best in feudal, MAA are best in castle. It all makes sense. If you want to mass MAA and nothing else it should only be possible when you outtech your opponent, for example you’re age 3 and they are age 2. English spamming MAA only in age 4 vs age 4 was a problem.

I can see the intention behind most of the changes, and its very good changes generally. They only need to think a bit more of how we will address fighting great bombards and NoB. And address how longbow will literraly outrage everything even siege. They can now kite mangonel…

One other problem with MAA in Imp is they cost very little Gold compared to their counters. So they’re easy to spam, but not as easy to get rid of.

Game has massive game-design issues in current patch.
I’m very happy that the Devs do FINALLY go for deep system changes instead of just scratching the surface by changing a few values here and there and solving an issue here but creating another there.
Siege resist was the VERY much needed change and I’ve been asking for this for 3 years.

Happy that the game gets some massive work done deep in the system now.

Everyone can spam it but it leads to very cheap, almost free units you can mass with the free food from your farms, which might prolong games. Maybe the devs noticed that this is one of the reasons why we have situations where there are stalemates.

Now ranged are buffed, MAA got less hp, even archers can deal damage to age4 MAA, handcannon can kill MAA easier than before, so nobody need that unit in late game, just range units and horses

And you favorite civ is going to gain new units too.

I like the changes too. But It need some adjustments before the patch arrives.

MAA is just a meatshield in late game, but in this patch, MAA are useless, horseman can do better than MAA, and the horseman can also counter siege and range, the MAA can not, by the way, the horseman dont cost any gold

Late game mass MAA was op for some Civs. Too fast and economic to spawn. But, i dont think It needs to nerf elite army, just needed to buff cav. Late game cav should not be soft counter by MAA.

because civs like HRE, Japen, they are designed to be infantry civ,so they got strong infantry and economy, if you need nerf that, just nerf economy so they cant easily spam, but in this patch they nerfed both

I mean if HRE manages to get to Imp, they can do whatever, because they can print Villagers. And Japanese has an insanely strong cavalry unit in Mounted Samurai. I guess we will see, but I don’t think they haven’t accounted for this. We’ll have to wait for the really good players to adjust to the changes and figure out the meta.

That’s true, but neither does its counter unit.

the high level player also use more horseman

Elite archers with incendiary arrows and bsm upgrades will deal 13-8 dmg per shot to an elite maa with bsm uogrades. Since elite maa have 180? Hp that means it takes 36 shots to kill said maa. Down from 44 shots with original elite tactics. Not a big difference.

The pros have already attested to this, live build favors large infantry siege engagements and cavalry are relegated to flanking and raids, unless the enemies standing army has no spears.

But now with melee infantry (esp spears) being nerfed (btw the spear is THE most cost effective unit in the game STILL) HOPEFULLY, cavalry will have a place in the mix composition standing army. And with no range anti siege, and the boos to biology AND the nerf to HC vs cav; are more reasons why cav will hopefully make a return to main engagments.

Alright, I cracked the code. This update is extremely siege focused and makes springald meta great again. It was so obvious once I realized it… they cost the same as a knight and take 15 seconds to build, 2 pop only. So now I spam springald, hard. My opponents are much more upset than when it was just mangonels :see_no_evil:

I wipe armies in less time with less resources than pre-patch, can’t wait to see everyone flip when this hits the meta.

I never thought I would top the feeling of rocks plopping on my enemies heads, but the thwack that is springald nourishes me. 1200 resources for 2 mangos that deal a tiny amount of damage… or 1250 resources for 5 springalds that murder an entire line of units every 3 seconds.

All of you need to experience the sheer joy that is 12+ springalds, best patch ever
