That’s great to hear! (but let’s be real the mini map is complete trash just like AOEIV’s mini map)
but you know what they do at a glance, meanwhile the minimalistic approach the arrow and sword icons for armor upgrade are identical and its unclear if cav are upgraded with melee upgrade or archer upgrade or independently.
btw have you seen the cross marketing efforts the AOEIV marketing gurus, have been doing with Law and Order?
AOE4 has worse graphics than all of the previous AOE DE version games. There is no possible way an argument can be made for bad graphics on purpose in order to accommodate people with older hardware. Is there really a problem of the DE versions not being able to be run on any hardware with all of the settings turned down to lowest? Are they going to make the graphics ugly for the majority of players who aren’t color blind in order to cater to the few that are? Well, that is their call but don’t expect big sales. What I don’t get is why they want to limit players options so much. You want to make things readable for color blind players? Great, enable that as an OPTION, don’t make everyone look at ugly colors if they don’t want to. You think a certain zoom level is best? Great but don’t force everyone to play at that zoom level, make that zoom level the 50% slider and people can zoom out a lot more or in more if they want to. AOE1 DE, you can choose sprites 1x, 2x or 4x. If you choose 1x you can get a super zoomed out view, 4x and its a super zoomed in view and you can zoom even more or less with your mouse on top of that. Make blood and remaining corpses an option button. Have an enhanced graphics pack for people who want more realistic graphics. Have a choice of UIs (like AOE3 de does). The other AOE games, choice choice choice, AOE4, no choice, my way or the highway. They want people to pay 4x the price for 4x fewer options.
Keep playing Age to feel younger!!
Hey, you’re getting a lot of responses!
Thing for me is: when Age3 came out, or even before that, people were commenting on a lot of issues and Ensemble Studios didn’t take them very seriously, defending their own decisions at that time. Well, in spite of being fun and quite playable, it didn’t become a major success. I feel the same is happening now. Lots of issues about several aspects of the game and no major changes. I think it will be bought in great numbers, but who knows if it’ll have as big a fan base as Age 2 has.
I respect your opinion and i agree with it
you’re so infuriating.
Here is an old thread where the forums were much more visited than now.
and yet very relevant in other aspect of the game. For game mechanics, aoe 4 tried to cater aoe 2 comp and sc2 but they keep aside other aoe and their alternative is either bland or mid comparing from the source game or too controversial like joan civ.
“they kept things too similar and this was bad, except where they made changes which was also bad”
Certainly doesn’t feel like you’re giving them many options!
well most of them are more suited for a new aom game than a new aoe game
