The year is 2030

Sory, but i do not want to play empire eart 1 and 2.

I am in age of empire 4 forum to play age of empire 4.

Yet you ask for Empire Earth :stuck_out_tongue:

Yet here you are asking to change AoE4

Omg, that empire earth 2 game is ugly. XD

I would never want to play it.

I am horrified of how it look like age of empire 4, but whit less 3d.

I think i will keep playing war selection, for the time being.

Sory for wanting to change the new age of empire 2, i was actualy hoping to have a real age of empire 4.

Age of empire 5 will maybe have crew and we will be able to steal enemy siege weapons, from stone age to modern time.

This will be nice. Although I hope AoE5 returns to antiquity

Or advance to the twentieth century…

And in 2030 these forums will be complaining about how AoE5 is nothing like AoE 4…

Seriously this forum is just a mess of complaining, its honestly impressive.

Well, maybe this forum is not a mess of complaining.

People just do not know how to comunicate and how to read. XD

The forum manager may have already give up on filtering the overload of information.

It will only worsen whit time and age of empire 5 will not be save from this mess, unless a new forum model is made to help communication.

Rigth now, developper need to read between the line, to have a global neutral understanding.

Also, people need to stop figthing each other and destroy each other idea.

We all here to have fun and play.

It would be impossible to go beyond 12 totally different civilization mechanics.Let alone people to learn all of them.

AOE4 civs shares a lot in common. And gathering more ressources because of the prelate (HRE) or the chinese unit, it’s the same mechanic at the end.

tbh I think that aoe2 civs are more assymetric than aoe4. In aoe4 every civ can maximize every unit wich is not the case for aoe2.

We will have 2/4 DLC/year in my opinion. And those DLC will have 2 new civs + new campaigns. Devs said that aoe2 has been used to test things for aoe4. We got DLCs with 2 civs and campaigns. It will be like that for aoe4 in my opinion

AoE4 blew up and quickly became one of the most popular games , kickstarting a new age of RTS . Over the next few years many other RTS games were launched , some being even more popular than AoE4 . With the success of AoE4 , Microsoft decided to make AoM2 , released in Oct 2025 . Many players of previous age games migrated over to AoE4 leaving them with small but dedicated communities . Meanwhile , feedback from Advanced AI made it feasible for Strategy games to have much more balanced and factions . By August 2030 , AoE2 has 99 civs , AoE3 has 38 civs , AoE4 having 41 , AoM2 having 20 . Microsoft announced AoE5 set in AoE3’s timeframe while Fans speculate that AoE6 takes us to antiquity…

or that aoe 5 is in the time period of the twentieth century and aoe 6 is futuristic and with space empires and colonies around the Solar System ending with the Covenant attacking the UNSC Harvest colony…

In league it’s a pretty huge time investment to learn every champion in a role, let alone the entire game. As long as balance is reasonable variety is generally good.

I don’t know… My excitement for AoE4 kind of reminds me of another game, from another genre, called Artifact. A lot of details feel the same: the huge entry fee (for people who dislike subscription gaming at least) for a niche game, in an era of free to play, the barebones nature of its features, the tournaments being announced before the game was even out, the content makers jumping on the bandwagon en masse. And man did I love that game and was also counting the days till it came out. There are differences though: that game had layers of paywalls. It required you to pay to play ranked. And it was quite brutal with regards to its awareness requirements, which is the last thing a gambling addict seeks. It was like playing an RTS game, but with decision making “APM”. Not everyone is made for that.

AoE4 on the other hand seems confused. The graphics are stuck somewhere between immersiveness and esports stylization. The gameplay though is streamlined for the masses, lacking in micro and skill requirements, while also feeling clunky. Esports features are missing, both in client and UI. Casual oriented details are also missing, like manned siege engines and historically immersive graphics.

The game plays it so incredibly safe that it might end up not pleasing anyone. Innovations are ridiculously unimpressive and unexciting. Who is excited about Landmarks, or Influence System, or little cosmetic doodads that pop up when placing buildings? It’s a different game than AoE2 in details, but a remake when looking at the big picture. A streamlined reimagining of an old game. Like when someone writes a raw essay for you, and you just edit out a few sentences.

And as opposed to Artifact, when it comes to AoE4 I get the same level of hype after each beta, but then it somehow fades in a few weeks. As much as I’m excited for its 10 year comeback, the game is just not memorable.

So I guess my prediction, looking back from 2030, is that AoE4 will have been the most uninspired in the series, and the most forgettable at that. People joined the hype wagon for about a year, then moved on, or went back to their games of choice. The game has been abandoned shortly, and most of the requested features never got into the game. It had been made with DLC and esports in mind, as opposed to passion as its forerunners. AOM2 was never made, but people did get a definitive edition somewhere down the road. No new Age of Empires game has been announced. The RTS genre got modernised by other, more ambitious companies, but never really reached the height of early 2000’s. Lots of RTS spin-offs now exist and have moderate to low success, but mostly indie games. Only a couple AAA RTS games have been made since 2021 that are still around. They did take some risks to innovate, instead of just streamlining, but none of them have really revolutionized the genre.

Tbh, them taking us into a Halo RTS would be both hilarious and awesome

Exactly, considering that Halo Wars was made by Ensemble Studios,in case Relic made a futuristic aoe they should unify both sagas or at least put a Easter egg about the encounter of humanity with the covenant or that humanity would be thinking of developing the spartan project at the end of the XXV century…
