Then we disagree about semantics. The new concept that replaces the Feitoria would imply that the current version of the Feitoria is no longer in the game. I don’t have patience to go into long arguments about things like these anymore.
That was not my intention, but I just did not want to spend 50 posts to argue about irrelevant stuff, and wanted to cut the conversation short.
Portuguese are a weak civ because none of their current bonuses apply until you’re already well into the game. The change described in this thread will not address that. This change would be meaningless tweaking. What I mean precisely is…
Ships +10% HP: Situational, as only useful on maps with water, and can obviously have no effect before Feudal
Units cost -20% gold: A cool bonus for sure, but doesn’t really help you in the early game either, that much, as early on food and wood is more of an immediate necessity. Doesn’t really get very useful before Castle.
All technologies (excluding advancing ages) are researched 30% faster: Cool bonus, but again, doesn’t really do much for you in the early game as even in Feudal, you might pick up a blacksmith tech or two, but that’s about it. So more of a Castle Age and onwards benefit.
Feitoria
Reworking the Feitoria is hardly going to address the issue you just raised. So if making Portuguese a more viable civ is something that interests you, it would be better to brainstorm about something that can help the civ not die in the early game
Because of the last occurance of Feitorias deciding Torunament games I want to revive the discussion about the current Feitoria design.
i’m sorry if “necroing hreads” isn’t the right way to do, but tbh I’m atm confused what is the “right way” to revive a conversation that already had taken place.
I’m speaking about game 5 of Liereyy aainst FreakinAndy in Warlords, where the Feitorias saved Liereyy from a basically ensured loss to andy. Liereyy was basically unable to get any wood, but because of his feitorias he still had an income until he could finally establish to get back in the middle of the map.
Despite Nday having like 2/3 of the map controlled the majority of the game and therefore even in the end having more res (gold and wood included) than liereyy, the addition of 1-3 feitorias in the back of his base broight back liereyy in the game - and at some point andy just couldn’t afford to add anymore gold units to his army which he would have needed against liereyys trash eating, slow ball of doom.
And whilst there might also be a legitimate discussion about organ guns, I think the main flipping point of this was indeed the feitorias which allowed liereyy to keep his organs alive in a mass that was capable of “deleting” trash forces in that manner.
I don’t want to claim my conept proposed here would be the “ultima ratio”, but I think it would still be better than the current design of portuguese.
I aslo want to remind that this concept was proposed before the portuguese berry bonus which i still find silly and would acutally advise to remove from the civ.
Portuuese have a nice military bonus with the lower gold cost and don’t need any early eco bonus like that. Especially as it doesn’t has any historical fundament.
