Thoughts on Eagles for a potential American expansion

Wouldn’t that be AoE1/RoR material?

I can’t wait for the possible american campaignssss. I miss the classic medieval stuff.

OIC. That’s why my next pick on this will be Mapuche :joy::joy::joy:

True, but it’s still very late… at most you could include a Lautaro campaign (1553-1558), but little else… you could do like the Aztecs who can use cavalry in their campaign, but only for one or two missions…

Yes, Olmecs (1200-400 BC) are better for Retold…for AoE 2 you can have Toltecs, Mixtecs, Chichimecs, Purépechas, Zapotecs (many lasted even during the Spanish conquest between 1520 and 1600)…and in the Andes, Huari/Wari (600-1200), Chimú (900-1470) and Tiwanaku/Aymara (600-1480) (the latter later conquered by the Incas at the end of the 15th century)…

Yes, it’s a shame that Chronicles has become so important at the expense of Return of Rome or even 1DE itself… we haven’t played in the Middle Ages since The Mountain Royals, two years ago (VaV doesn’t count because it’s just a collection of simple custom scenarios)…

It wouldn’t fit in too well either, but at least they start in the Middle Ages…

If we only had a Chinese DLC with campaigns for the Jurchen (Founding the Jin Dynasty), Khitan (Founding the Qara Khitai Khanate) and Chinese (Fall of the Yuan Dynasty). Oh man, what a missed opportunity!

Yes, exactly, and the TTK DLC could be for Chronicles… Wanyan Dynasty for the Jurchen (1115-1234) (like Hauteville or Bari, it would involve fighting against the Chinese and the Khitans, and in the final missions against the Mongols, but without being able to defeat them), Kuchluk for the Khitans (1204-1218) (it would take place after Temujin and between the first and second missions of Genghis Khan’s campaign), and Zhu Yuanzhang for the Chinese (1352-1368) (it would take place during the Red Turban Rebellions and the final mission after Lake Poyang)…

So, nothing else about the new DLC?

I don’t think we’ll see anything until February/March…

I think it is time to retire the Incan eagle. Mapuche and Tupi seem like they would benefit the most from a new scout aesthetically, so may as well go all the way in and add a new scout for the Incas and Muisca too

Or muisca get Eagles from incas?
However I would appreciate getting a new scout design other than the eagle with all it’s associated issues.

I agree if there are multiple south amarican civis might as well give them a different eagle type unit.

I think eagle warrior must be removed for the south american civilization (including the Incas) and a new regional unit must be added for the south american civilization. Eagle warrior must be a central american regional unit.

Mapuche even have cavalry so they doesn’t nedd eagle warrior.

Perhaps developers decreased the eagle food cost even with the Inca bonus because of the new DLC and possible introduction of a new eagle-like unit for the South American civilizations? I know the American civs don’t do well these days in the multiplayer side of the game, and this move was related to fix that issue more than this speculation, but I still do wonder.

I think the best solution would be to rename and reskin the current Eagle Warrior but keep the stats and then give Aztecs Eagle Warriors as a new Unique Unit with the current appearance.

I assume the Cavalry will be Castle UU only and they won’t have a stable so the still need a scout.

It would be super anachronistic for them to have Cavalry in Dark Age, that would completely undermine the whole concept of “Ages” if they had a post 1500 AD unit from the very beginning.

Possibly only in the lategame, so they could also have the current eagle variant OR a new design.
They seem to get a cav UU, but maybe they even get light cav from castle age or a UT or something like this (?). There are a few different design options which all could make interesting civs.

Hoping for a new eagle replacement, even a generic name like “scout-scout warrior-elite scout” would do, and finger cross for a reskin of the militia and archer line, for proper and full inmersion

If we get more meso civs they are likely to use some similar military ranks, so I wouldnt rush to do that

Maybe a new generic looking scout could be designed for all non meso areas yeah

If there is a NA regional dlc we can have civis with eagles and cav archers but no stable.

I wouldn’t mind Maya keeping the Eagles, just my preference would be for them to be an Aztec UU. I think Aztec Eagles should also get stronger every kill like Jaguar Warriors though.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the South American civs including the Inca get a new Shock Infantry line. Might be costing Wood like the Fire Lancer. This way they would not be affected by the Inca civ bonus.

There are many cool potential Eagle Warriors:

  • Trash Eagle that costs no Gold, without Elite upgrade
  • Faster Eagle
  • Eagle with additional Melee armour
  • Eagle with additional bonus damage (so better vs. Cav/Siege/Monks)
  • Eagle with charged attack
  • Eagle with AoE attack
  • Eagle with poison damage (I feel like this might be what we’ll get with a civ like the Tupi)
  • Eagle that regenerates HP

And that ignores more gimmicky things like ignoring armour, reflecting damage or reducing armour.

You could consider stuff like poison gimmicky too but it just fits very well to South America in my opinion. I wonder if we will get a blow dart regional unit. Could be a Hand Cannon replacement.

Had some thoughts but waited till official news drop. Here is my suggestions.

I believe Aztecs need more help than other 2 as the constant buff of JW is not really helping them. They are very unlikely to add a castle to begin with as they have the lowest HP castle and not a very good UU. So making EW an UU for them and then buffing it will be the best option without touching Maya and Incas.
