Tinfoil hat theory: Persia is coming

Very vague tinfoil-hat-guess:

Persia and either an indian split into Mughals and Marathas OR Persia and the Barbary States?

I mean, we also got the barbary pirates in the historic battles?

Oooooor Persia and Korea as a second Asian Civ bundle with a MASSIVE overhaul of the current asian CIVS?

I also think Persia with either Siam or Korea is a likely possibility. Especially because the current Asian Civs all need some level of overhauling, and that for years if not decades already.

Persia and Siam would be perfect for Asia.

There are a lot of gaps on the world map, that could be filled with new maps in this kind of expansion.

Morroco and oman would be perfect to also finish Africa.

Afghanis, Uzbeks, Koreans, Vietnamese all would be nice to have but the other 4 would be most important for me.

I wonder if we ever see Australian maps too

Morocco has bean heavily hinted since the release of the Definitive Edition. The Scenarios that shipped with it included one with the USA and one with Ethiopians which both were added months later but the Barbary Pirates never got added as a civ despite being playable. Then Morocco even got a dedicated scenario in the African DLC and were added as an Age up Option for the Hausa. Yet they have still not been added as a playable civilisation.

Morocco certainly a better option than the Barbary states.

Of course. It was confirmed that they were originally considered for the African DLC but then scratched because it wouldn’t make sense to give them the same mechanics as the other African civs.

What I find strange:

Both units are referring to groups from the northern Caucasus (dagestan and circassia). That is very specific.

Could be that this is just a native settlement for new maps and not new units for a civ? But in this case I would expect more maps in that region to justify the addition.

Since the IDs are coming from 130558-130570, what were the IDs before and after them? This could indicate when in the development process they were implemented.

I’d go with Omani because they share the Persian Gulf (Royals of the Persian Gulf). I’d save the Afghans for a Central Asian DLC with the Tatars…

Ah no sabía eso…No, no la ví, luego veré cuando salga el dlc…Igual algo tendrá que ver con Egipto…

They could also include both in a North African DLC… the Moroccans use more formal Berber units, and the Barbary States use Berber units too, but more focused on piracy…

I don’t think pairing an Arab civ with Persia is nearly as good of an idea as people think. Oman is geographically close, but they really don’t have as much in common as you would think for neighbouring countries (though both could share a card about blockading Hormuz which would be very apropos). The ascendant Arab powers of the time were focused on expanding into Africa while Persia was more concerned with Central Asia.

Uzbeks and/or Afghans would be the logical pairing with Persia. My preference would be Uzbeks as a steppe civ would add the most variety. An India rework/split to go along would be great too. A the very least that they better rework Zamburaks to not just be crappy light cav.

If they do get around to making Arab civs, pairing them with African ones would be very fitting. Omanis + Shona, Egyptians + Sudanese, and Moroccans + Mandinka (successors of Mali) would be great pairings.

Yes, these are just options… Persians, Omanis, Tatars, Afghans, that’s the general idea. The point would be to divide them into regional dlcs. For example, the UN divides the regions of Asia into:

  1. North Asia (basically Russia) (we’ve had this since 2005)

  2. East Asia: China and Japan (plus Korea) (we’ve had this since 2007, except for the Korean civilization)

  3. South Asia: India (plus the Himalayan countries and Ceylon/Sri Lanka) (we’ve had this since 2007) (Afghanistan is included here too)

The only thing left are the other 3 regions:

  1. West Asia: basically what is the Middle East by way of the West (Turkey, America, Persia, Oman, and the other Arab countries) (we’ve had this region since 2005 with Turkey; we’re missing the rest)

  2. Central Asia: The nomads of the Route of the Silk Road and the “stan” countries (Kazakhs/Uzbeks or simply Tatars) (Afghanistan could also be included here if only Tatars are included in that region)

  3. Southeast Asia: Burma, Siam (plus Vietnam) (Indonesia is already in the game as the Malay revolution of the Dutch and Portuguese)…

West Asia

Central Asia

I would support this, or better, the Kazakh! While still into the persosphere, their presence would be justified by their innate difference (more nomadic, more connection to other civilizations and ignored center of interests, such as Siberia, Dzungaria, and Kalmykia) over something like Afghans or Uzbeks. It would be the perfect couple. The hat in the plain and the carpet on the mountain.

We must keep in mind that a civilization, especially an exotic one, such as Asian or African, if it should be coupled with another one, should be distanced to it’s pair quite enough. For example, the Uzbeks-Iranians is unlikely, as well as Afghans-Iranian. Same with East Asia: Burmese-Thais, no. Burmese-Javanese, why not.

To be honest, I agree - outside the Islamic shroud, Oman and Persia are pretty different. I like the idea of Afghan/Uzbeks as well civ to pair with Persia for a DLC, though I’d be very curious as to what their navies would look like (armed civilian craft I would guess)

I actually think North African & Arabian Peninsula Civs could well be their own playstyle mechanic as, or a hybrid of sorts (meshing Euro and African Royal elements) which would be fitting for Civs on great trade routes, between many other countries.

Something like this:

There’s a really good paper on Kazakh watercraft that covered Mes Sal and Camel boats (unfortunately what I linked is now broken) and I don’t see any reason those would not fit for the other steppe peoples like Uzbeks. Haven’t really looked into the Afghans, but the Durrani empire did reach the Indian Ocean at its height so they could use whatever kinds of boats are used by coastal Pakistanis.

Also I did find more info on what Ogurtjoy are. It’s a coastal Turkman tribe that engaged in piracy and there’s an island named after them.

There should be some “distance” in terms of providing unique playability. But there also needs to be some commonality to theme an expansion around.

Kazakhs and Persians have very little to do with each other so I don’t see why they’d be paired. Uzbeks and Persians do have a lot in common, while also being quite distinct. Uzbeks blend steppe civilization with Persianized silk road cities.

Yes, if you think about it, the Tatars would be the Timurid Empire that existed during the first century of AoE 3 (late 14th-early 16th century)…
